If WWE hit another boom period like The Attitude Era...

...who do you think would be the top guys, what storylines would draw the casual fans in, who's t-shirt would everyone be wearing etc etc (DX, nWo, Austin 3:16)?

Would we have to wait for a second promotion to step up before we see this?

Dave Youell 08-28-2005 04:49 PM

Cena, by a mile

Joey Slugs 08-28-2005 04:51 PM

unless another company can really make a run @ WWE, we will never see another boom period like that again.

The Naitch 08-28-2005 04:51 PM

Cena- I think if they turn him heel and have him feud with Hogan, this could really have potential

The Greater Power 08-28-2005 05:27 PM

Cena and Orton would be at the top.

Their match at WM 23 (or if they could wait it out, it could be HUGE at WMXXV) will be just like Austin/Rock WM 17.

Only not as good.

Xero 08-28-2005 07:00 PM

Cena and Orton would probably lead it, with Angle, Hunter, and a few others being supportive constant main eventers... Some of the current midcarders would probably have their times at the top as well.

Cena would be the Stone Cold of the next boom and Orton would be the next Rock. (At a purely status-based vantage.)

Anybody Thrilla 08-28-2005 08:24 PM

All I know is that Angle is OWNING Raw right now, and he'd probably be a pretty big name is said situation.

Skippord 08-28-2005 09:28 PM

Kennedy... Kennedy

Corporate Gr8 One 08-28-2005 11:03 PM

Raw should do something with the new ladies. Have Torrie and Candice just start seducing wrestlers. Shelton Benjaman could be her stud guy, and recruit a tag team like Dupree and Tomko. Have them destroy almost anyone. BoyToys or something along that line.

The Cerebral Assassin 08-28-2005 11:27 PM

How do you all define the Attitude era?

I have four possible time periods.

A WM 12 - WM 17
B WM 14 - WM 17
C WM 14 - WM 18
D WM 12 - WM 16

I choose D because it covers the time more raunch and adult themes started finding their way into the WWF and then when things started to become more formatted (generic) and toned down.

How about you guys?

I see Angle ending up more as the Andre the Giant to Cena's Hulk Hogan.

Corporate Gr8 One 08-29-2005 12:33 AM

But is Trips coming back as a Face to go over Angle at WM?

None of those, I would define it from WM13 to WM17. WM13 because Austin was really starting to establish himself. Also, just a few months later, the Mr. McMahon character, who lead the company in more ways than one into and through the Attitude Era, was born. It started to go downhill after WM17... It really ended with the Invasion, but WM17 had the rematch of the century and the Attitude Era, Rock/Austin.

the way WWE not-so creative has been lately.... HELL would freeze over before they would have another boom period. :shifty:

Vastardikai 08-29-2005 10:29 AM

If we equate the next boom period to the Attitude Era, it'll be something like this:

John Cena = Austin
Randy Orton = Triple H
Carlito = The Rock
Batista = The Undertaker

Carlito's timing is just out of this world, he's the better son of a wrestler, IMO. Also, for some reason, I buy him as a heel better, and as a wrestler.

I still insist that the old man running around with Orton is the only reason why RKO has a job.

Cena, if he'll try to cater more to the common man, he'll be better off.

Batista is the other big name.

The attitude era was not the first boom and it wont be the last. The world works in circles, wrestling just has to wait its turn. For the record im glad no one is watching now, wrestling would have a worse rep than its does now.

Mr. Nerfect 08-30-2005 01:05 AM

Batista could be THE biggest star right now, if they didn't pussify him that is.

Anyway, I'll say these guys will be the top dogs at some point or another:

Batista
John Cena
Ken Kennedy (I'm serious)
Randy Orton
Carlito
Shelton Benajmin

Mister Sinister 08-30-2005 01:16 AM

I know it don't seem exactly likely....But Edge & Christian will also be up there, they are built up home-grown WWE Products....However Edge would proberly be the more successful of the two....In the Attitude Era, He would be Shawn Michaels....(Not in match Quality, but in terms of how many Championship Reigns) While Christian....if turned face....Would be...The D'Lo Brown of the Attitude Era....A Solid Mid-Carder, taking pride in everything he did, with the European Championship, and holding two single titles at one point, sadly, that's as far as Christian will go, when he could easily do so much more if ever given the chance....But if they gave him the D'Lo Treatment (Before they started Shitting all over him) He would hold the Mid-Card together, since that is something that is overlooked....making the Mid-Card Titles seem valueable.

There is one thing that bugs me about Kennedy he sounds like an elephant with downs syndrome

The booms tend to happen despite the company's direction, not because of it.

Kennedy has a VERY good voice for speaking. HE sounds kinda like Road Dogg woulda without Billy Gunn up his ass.

cafctom 08-30-2005 08:29 AM

Agreed. Kennedy looks quite good, I think I read that he is 35 already though?

High Impact v.W.o 08-30-2005 08:41 AM

I can see Carlito and Cena leading the way.

jindrak 08-30-2005 10:44 PM

Cena, Orton, and Batista started to elevate the WWE card status two years ago...Now they are all maineventers.

Carlito, Benjamin, Masters will be that next wave of talent that is elevated to top tier status.

Masters is not talent

"Talent" is a loose term which refers to people who are employed within certain fields, such as pro wrestling and professional "escorts."

You know, it's a generic term, and since Masters IS getting elevated...

I guess they REALLY wanna put Triple H over as a face...Masters/Helmsley, I'd mark out for HHH like a Nazi at an Eminem concert.

Bad Company 08-31-2005 09:33 PM

Carlito

Jesus Of Suburbia 09-01-2005 07:44 PM

Christian, by a mile.
His Captain Charisma gimmick has the right "fuck you, i'm better attitude"
much like HBK before WM14.

Batista is 39

roach21 09-01-2005 08:59 PM

Batista's 39? I thought he was 31 at oldest. When did he first enter the wrestling business?

Executioner 09-02-2005 11:57 PM

good throw back to the attitude era...with a few changes....

Shane McMahon returns on Smackdown and reforms the Corporate Ministry with the Undertaker; adding Booker T, Rey Mysterio, Chris Benoit, and Batista......

JBL and Randy Orton form a new faction; Orlando Jordan, Eddie Guererro, and Christian join.....

Theodore Long sees this and sets up the return of the War Games match at Survivor Series (My twist on the classic Survivor Series style match)...

heels win, demand title matches at Royal Rumble
