Best Masked Wrestlers
 

Ok I don't know if there has been one of these threads but if so, deal with it. Who, in your opinion, are some of the greatest masked wrestlers of all-time? These days, with the exception of Rey Mysterio, there isn't hardly any masked wrestlers around. Back in the day they were much more common, although they were rarely pushed to a major title. I've always wondered why hardly any masked wrestlers won MAJOR titles (aside from the Cruiserweight title) or got mega pushes. So do you guys think any of the masked wrestlers of old deserved more than they got? Who are some of your all-time favorites?

I was always a big fan of The Patriot. He was a decent, solid worker IMO (not to mention he was a left-hander like myself) and I found his feud with Bret Hart entertaining. His only real flaw was that he wasn't so great on the mic which is probably why he never won the World title. But other than that I thought Del Wilkes had alot of potential. Too bad he sold The Patriot gimmick to Tom freakin' Brandi. :nono:

Why anybody would buy the Patriot's gimmick is beyond me, but I guess anything is better than Salvatore Sincere.

As far as good masked wrestlers, I'll just throw the name Avatar out there and leave it at that.

I've always liked Hayabusa. Ultimo is the man too.

Hayabusa was one of my favorite masked wrestler. Top three in fact. Damn shame about him.

Um, I've got heaps of favorites . Lyger, Ultimo, El Santo, Mankind, any of the Tiger Masks, Great Sasuke. I'll just stop there.

Favorite Lyger moment.. Great Muta ripping off Lyger's mask, and then recoiling in fear because he has Muta face pain on underneath. Lyger then procedes to mist Muta... Good stuff.

Seriously, it makes me sick sometimes that American fans have no clue as to how huge lucha libre is in Mexico and South America. La Parka??

El Santo is a fuckin' god. Not only did he make smovies, but he was buried in his mask. And his son is almost as huge.

Mil Mascaras was almost as big. And is actually better known than Santo internationally because of the many successful tours he had outside Mexico, winning titles in the US and Japan.

In all seriousness, the discussion as to who were the best masked wrestlers pretty much has ot begin with those two.

You also have to mention American masked men such as the Destroyer and Mr. Wrestling I & II.

I haven't seen El Santo or Mil Mascaras aside from WWF work so I would go with Vader.

All wrestlers who wear masks do kind of have that mysterious sense about them, but when Kane had it - He really put it across well. Whereas, someone like Rey Mysterio doesn't really make me care about the fact that he wears a mask. In order for the whole mask to make me care about a wrestler, they have to be able to make the mask a huge factor in their overall identity. Please note that I'm not basing that opinion on wrestling ability, just on the whole subject of masked characters.

Mil Mascaras also made movies.

Anyway, Ultimo Dragon is god. End of discussion.
