Guys bookers were planning on Main Eventing/Winning Titles

I know like a select few on here would know stuff like this, but name some guys in eathier NWA/WCW or WWF(E) that the bookers were planning on having them main event big matches or give them World Title runs, but it never came to be.

Like for example, I know Vince was planning on running (or at least had it in his mind) Zeus/Hogan for WM 6 I believe, but thank god it never happened.

And how Luger was suppossed to win at Mania 10, but he opened his big mouth.

So name some more "was supposed to happen" situations like that. I'm looking at you Rob.

DaveWadding 08-30-2005 02:22 PM

Ludvig Borga was supposed to win the WWF belt, then he got injured.

Same with Ahmed.

I know Perfect was supposed to win the 90 Rumble, as well.

And DiBiase was due like 15 title runs (in between NWA and WWF; I'm exaggerating a little) that he never got.

SuperSlim 08-30-2005 04:41 PM

Wasn't Bam Bam gonna get one? or was his just a major push?

DaveWadding 08-30-2005 06:51 PM

Also, Owen was supposed to win at Over the Edge :'(

Bam Bam Bigelow was promised a World title run in 1995 as long as he agreed to job to Lawrence Taylor at Wrestlemania 11. Vince McMahon told him that that as long as he did the job he would get a run as World Champion later that year. So he jobbed to L.T. but Vince didn't keep his word and Bigelow never got the World title push he had been promised.

Savio 08-30-2005 07:52 PM

Brock was gonna job to Taker

Hassan was going to get a title shot.

I don't think Bigelow was ever promised the World title.

Ted DiBiase was promised both the WWF and NWA world championships at one point.

Owen Hart was promised a WWF title run if he came back to the WWF after Montreal,

Rob Van Dam was planned to be the ECW world champion around the time Mike Awesome left for WCW.

Tom Magee was being groomed for the WWF title. Until they realised he could only work with Bret Hart.

Vader reckons he was told he was getting the WWF title twice in the summer of 1996 as well as beating Rocky Maivia for the IC title before he was arrested in Kuwait.

Vince Russo wanted to put Tank Abbott over for the WCW title when Bret Hart vacated it.

I'll add more when I remember them.

The Gooch 08-31-2005 01:25 PM

I've heard on a radio interview with Bad News Allen (or was it Brown) that he was suppose to beat Hogan for the belt.

mrslackalack 08-31-2005 04:08 PM

Tommy Dreamer refused to be ECW Champion many times. I heard Brakus was going to be World Champ. I also heard that D-lo was going to be in the world title scene had he not paryalized Droz. I believe Rick Steiner? was going to beat Flair for the World Title in 1988 had Flair left.

redoneja 08-31-2005 04:13 PM

Brakus? Name is familiar. Please refesh my memory.

mrslackalack 08-31-2005 04:24 PM

Brakus wrestled in Dark Matches for a while. They kept showing promos of him, but he never wrestled on TV. This was in late 96 to early 97.

They promised him a program with Hogan but not the title. They never had any plans to beat Hogan really at that time.

D'Lo was definately not getting the WWF title. He tried to go to WCW with Vince Russo to try to get the WCW title though. They were no plans for Ric Stiener as NWA/WCW champ.

Chavo Classic 08-31-2005 06:43 PM

What a true great Tommy Dreamer is. He was never egocentric or selfish and constantly put the younger talent over instead of taking the belt himself (with the exception of those 34 seconds). I'm relieved that he's got a backstage job with the WWE because he symbolises what is great about wrestling.

Rob 09-01-2005 06:41 PM

Dreamer is a freaking brown noser.

Sting Fan 09-02-2005 06:14 AM

How so Rob? Enlighten me because I have heard nothing but good about Dreamer.

LOL, I remember hearing those Tank Abbott rumors. I had just gotten into wrestling and could tell even then that it would have been a bad idea.

What's this about Lex Luger being supposed to take the title at WMX 'but then he opened his mouth'?

Does anyone know if Davey Boy Smith was to be a world champion, or was IC the highest he would ever get?

Luger was getting the title the day before the show. Plan was for him to beat Yokozuna and then lose to Bret Hart in the main event. He got pissed up the night before though and was telling anyone who would listen the plan including a New York Post (I think) reporter who then printed that story the day of the show. Vince went mental and changed the finish to having Yokozuna work two matches.

As for Davey, I think there were talks more than once about putting the title on him but nothing too serious. He was massively over in 1992 that it had to be considered. I'd imagine they considered it when he had a heel run too. It was definately considered before he joined WCW because they used it as a negociation tactic.

Destor 09-02-2005 07:14 PM

Brutus Beefcake was suposed to win the title WM 6 but worrior bitched and got the shot instead.

Loose Cannon 09-02-2005 07:31 PM

Danny Electric 09-02-2005 07:38 PM

Pepsi Man 09-03-2005 12:35 AM

I could see them setting up the Beefcake thing, with him being such great friends with the Hulkster and all, but it's just as easy to see that as a big story, a big pile of horse feces.

Ya know, I failed to consider that... you make a good argument. I concede.

Boondock Saint 09-03-2005 03:18 AM

I rented out the Olsen twins movie, New York Minute, to Beefcake at the video store I work at. He's kind of intimidating to wait on.

Destor 09-03-2005 03:59 AM

I dont know if your being serious, but your right.

I remember when Davey came back to the WWF after his WCW run JR talked often how Davey has won every title except the world title. It sounded like he was going to get at least a world title shot, but that never happened.

Well he did take part in that 6 pack challenge match for the vacant title (After mcmahon beat HHH i think.) But then pretty much disappeared after that from what I remember

Dusty wanted to put the belt on Steiner back then, but Flair refused and got it changed and Steiner ended up with the TV Title.

Or at least that's the story I heard.

KingofOldSchool 09-07-2005 02:07 AM

Butch Reed was supposed to win the IC Title and not the Honky Tonk Man.
