Yeah, we have a MLB thread but felt this should be seperate.

He's supposed to be back tonight, has like 20 games left and is 11 home runs behined Ruth which he always said was his goal to beat.

So, of course, the conspiracy theroy begins.

He's roided up, chancing he wont get tested in the next 20 games, and will knock off Ruth.

Dunno, could be interesting.

He's going to pinch hit most of the time. Even if he played 9 innings of the next 20 games I doubt he hits more than 5

My conspiracy theory :


MLB found out that Bonds was roiding for year. Instead of announcing it and damaging years of records and giving baseball a black eye that they might not recover from. They had Bonds fake a knee injury. Keep him out til the end of the season. Maybe hit a couple more HR's to get close to Ruth. Then he messes the knee up again. Retires at the end of the season.

Why? Well IMO, I think that if Bonds breaks this record. His steroid abuse will for sure be revealed. I mean you dont just break the biggest record in baseball and not have people looking into how? If he's using steroids and breaks the record. Its a forgone conclusion that his steroid use will come to the forfront. It may have already in those Balco trials. We just dont know it, but MLB probably got the heads up.

Yea, I don't really care if the man was roiding it up, as the vast majority of players in the league have at some time or another, so it isn't like he's gaining an unfair advantage over the other players. I hope he breaks the record, rekindles some of baseballs old popularity, and goes into the hall of fame like he deserves. Overall stat-wise, he is the best player ever, and he should be recognized for it.

Even though he is a huge asshole, but I would be too if I was the man like that, or something.

Some September call up pitcher should plunk him right in the head.

And send him out without the record.

No, Schilling was too busy giving up extra-base hits to perennial MVP candidates Terrence Long and Mark Teahen to do any lunch-stealing.

But if Schilling's ERA was money he would have enough to buy 5 or 6 lunches so no theft would be needed.

I dunno he's the only guy I know of who has his own big screen TV and his own room in the clubhouse. Then he teased the retirement angle and tried to gain some fans' sympathy by acting all sensative to what the reporters' say about him. And now, he's coming back just so he can try and get the record.

Whatever. He can have the record if he wants, and obviously he does.

Yawn, yeah, had some bad games off surgery...

anyway, I don't get how you can have all this hate for Schilling who probably has one of the legendery post season performances of all time (along with Kirk Gibsons HR).

Yet question people who get on Bonds case.

Speaking of Bonds, anyone read recently that he got in a clubhouse fight during spring training and a pitcher I think, put him in a head lock till the players broke it up.

One of the most legendary post season performances of all time? He put up a line of 7 IP, 4 H, 1 R in a Game 6 that clinched nothing. I'm not denying that he pitched well but how can you even put that in your top 30 post season performances? Did you completely forget Game 1 where he stunk and got pulled after 3 and got them in the whole in the first place?

Here is off the top of my head a list of post season performances that top Schilling unquestionably.

There are so many more, calling Schilling one of the greatest ever is quite homerific

Jackie Robinson stealing home in the 55 series ( if you're gunna do HR's you may as well say this too )

Koufax's game 7, 3-hit shutout in the 65 series.

Christy mathewson had 3 shutouts in the 1905 series
George Brett 1983 ALCS game 3
Edgar Martinez , 1995 ALDS, 3-run HR and GW GS, then came back in game 5 and hit the game winning 2-run double to win the series.He was 12-21 in the series

Larson Perfect game in the 1956 series
Bobby Thomson anyone?
Bob Gibson 1967 series, won 3 games and hit a HR ( 57 world series innings 0.95 ERA )
Bill Mazeroski's walk off HR to win the 1960 series.

Just a few . Schilling's performace may or may not fit in this list ( including Miz's list ). I cant say i've seen every single one i've named. So its hard to judge. Schilling was gutsy, but by choice and injury. I dunno.

I'd put Schilling at the bottom of the list , one notch ahead of Becketts performance. This list could grow too.

Mickey Lolich 1968 world series, won 3 games including game 7.

where is this coming from? I'm pretty sure those are Kaufax's numbers. I know the 0.95 ERA is synonomous with him

Gibson pitched 87 total WS innings. His ERA was 1.89 ( amazing ), 8 complete games, 2 shutouts, Stuck out 92 batters.

Koufax pitched 57 world series innings and 0.95 era, 4-3 record, struck out 62 batters and had 2 shutouts, 4 complete games. All that in (4) world series.

Both are better performances then Schilling so..

Those were just a few off the top of my head. I could probably find a performance in most postseasons that anyone not from Boston would view as better than Everquest boy's.

Miz jumped to Bonds defense, but rips schiliing and hence why I asked him how/why he would defend Bonds and be so anti-schilling a question which he completely dodged.

I'm adressing your response (no offense RP, but you had a little too much free time to google search).

Anyway, yeah, it was "one of" plenty of people had "walk-offs" that's a clutch hit, but what made it a "great performance" was the fact his friggen tendon was sewed in place. Same reason while Gibson's walk-off in itself was one clutch hit, but the fact he could barely walk is what made it great.

Everything i posted i pulled off the top of my head with the acception of the Mathewson performance.

Ofcourse i did have to go back and referance a few of them to get the exact stats because it would be way to easy for me to just say names and not back them up with the correct stats.

Also pretty much everything i posted is pretty well known about in baseball lure. Accept for the Martinez performance which never gets looked at.

You can't seem to understand why people don't like Bonds, yet you have a vendetta on schilling.

The guy's gone beyond playing hurt, the guy has played clean, does a lot for charity...

Then you have Bonds... :roll:
