Don't have the time to post the pics, but maybe later I will.

once Apple's OSX starts porting to Intel computers, this new Windows OS will be just like the rest.... utter crap.

Bad Company 09-13-2005 09:40 PM

I'm running Beta 1, it's ok, beta 2 looks alright though

Jalapeņo 09-13-2005 09:46 PM

How big is the download file?

Bad Company 09-13-2005 09:51 PM

I've got it on DVD from Microsoft MSDN
2.5gbish
I wouldnt recommend installing it, as it killed my XP boot sector.

Jalapeņo 09-13-2005 10:15 PM

Good mother fucking lord.

Just wanted to point out this is what the new Alt-Tab will look like...

Longhorn is suppose to use 3D acceleration as a big part of the environment so they were talking about making it where the preferences and options and that sort were on the "back" of the program. So if you went to view the options and stuff the window would flip around and the options would be there. Pretty nice I guess but going to be pretty demanding.

G 09-14-2005 08:24 PM

As long as it doesn't slow performance down, I'm all for it.

DS 09-14-2005 08:39 PM

With the use of 3D acceleration, it should.

G 09-14-2005 08:41 PM

I guess we will never know for fact until Beta 2 shows up.

Bad Company 09-14-2005 09:11 PM

as long as your video card is up to standard, then it wont be a problem, you can always turn it off if your that worried about it sapping performance.

Buzzkill 09-15-2005 12:07 AM

Thats pretty leet

Problem with that is, most end user computers have intergrated graphics. Wont be able to take full advantage of these Vista features.

I guess Microsoft has never heard of "Keep It Simple, Stupid"

Adding that many features at one time (vector 3D graphics, etc) will simply result in many bugs at a time when they should focus 100% of their effort into making the system as a whole more stable and secure. Once again, they chose creeping featurism over good software engineering practices.

Also, I hope to god that they include a solid compatibility mode for raster-based GUI toolkits or else every program for older versions of windows will have to run through different libraries. More DLL HELL. I am interested in seeing the performance comparisons of real time vector-based graphics rendering versus raster graphics.

I doubt it will be straight intel, there will probably be some proprietary bullshit - or you will have to wait for random people to write drivers etc

Yes, it WILL be straight Intel. There are people running it on PC hard-drives already.

DS 09-29-2005 08:50 PM

Only thing that Apple has going for them is the layouts. The system is horrible.
