Civ IV

I don't know if anybody here plays Civilization, but its the only game (outside of sports) that I can get into, just because it is at least somewhat historical.

Anyway, I'm in a class History of England before the Glorious Revolution, and it got me interested in the game again, so I bought a new copy of Civ III Gold off eBay (I left my original at home) and it should be here Monday. But the other thing is that I hear there is a new Civ coming out soon. So...

1. Does anybody else play the Civ games?

2. What do you know about Civ IV?

I play them. The original Civ I have put so many hours into.

It comes out Mid Nov last time I checked. The screenshots looks wonderful. Good stuff it should be. :y:

Do they really need a fourth one? You'd really think 3 proper games, the two Call To Power games and Alpha Centauri would be enough to pretty much cover everything they can do with the format. :-\

Well better graphics is always a reason to make another.

The Destroyer 09-25-2005 01:07 PM

A pretty flimsy reason unless they manage to enhance the gameplay.

G 09-25-2005 01:11 PM

Well it is a good enough reason for me.

The Mackem 09-25-2005 02:57 PM

I've played 1, 2 and 3. All good things. Great.

Loved 1 and 2, never played any of the others though...

Astley316 09-25-2005 06:17 PM

I played 2 and loved it, going to prolly buy this one when i upgrade my pc in a few months

The Destroyer 09-25-2005 06:20 PM

I should really reinstall 2, come to think of it. I was pretty crap at the main game, but I enjoyed the historical add scenarios and stuff you could get with the add on packs.

I was never a fan of the Call to Power or other versions of the game. I think each one has been considerably better then the one before it though.

I'm thinking bout buying this game. Anyone test it out yet. I loved civ 3 to death. Got my friends into it and we played Multiplayer LAN games like losers.

el fregadero 11-03-2005 02:28 AM

I can barely run it on this computer, takes forever to load and the graphics are pretty crappy, but I am still beating the computer by 300.

PapaGeorgio 11-06-2005 03:02 AM

Bought the game. Pretty awesome game. But like el fregadero I have some small problems with graphics. Like for video stuff it's really choppy. But that is more my video card then anything, but it pass the requirments so shouldn't have much problems. But the game really did improve. Lots of little stuff added to make it more fun. Wish they kind of did more on it though righ now, seems more of just an update then a new game in some ways. I could have lived with Civ3 forever. I just need to play Civ4 more though. And on a harder level, just won the first game on default pretty easy.
Funny thing was Washington started using slavery in like 1962, I couldn't help but chuckle. Good game, if you have the money buy it. If you don't no rush as it isn't a huge improvment.

I loved LOVED the first one, just couldn't get into the second at all, after a 5 year absence I tried out 3 and fell back in love with it. So I'll be getting 4 as a xmas present for myself :)

Bad Company 11-07-2005 08:06 PM

It's a good game, it just goes too quickly :(

PapaGeorgio 11-07-2005 08:28 PM

Yeah I was kind of suprised how quick it went in some ways. We need to get an online game up so we can play each other soemtime.
