Just got done watching it, It was awesome brought back alot of good memories. Also I teared up when they showed the Owen Tribute on Raw, They showed some of the interviews and stuff, it still gets to me... :-\, But anyway brought back alot of memories and made me glad that i'm a wrestling fan.

Schoenauer 10-03-2005 12:10 AM

I never saw Owen Hart wrestle, but it was making me teary eyed as well. I really wish I could have seen the WWF/E back then.

Loose Cannon 10-03-2005 12:12 AM

James Steele 10-03-2005 12:13 AM

I'm sure a search would bring up results, but here's the short version:

Owen Hart was working under a gimmick called the "Blue Blazer." Basically, he was a comedic superhero. It was a gimmick he'd had in his youth that Vince saddled him with again in 1999 during his quest for the Godfather's IC title.

At Over The Edge 1999, the two were scheduled for a match. As part of Owen's entrance, he was to be lowered to the ring on a winch (like Sting did on an almost-weekly basis on Nitro) to play up his superheroness.

It's not quite clear what happened up there, but Owen wound up falling from the arena's rafters into the ring, hitting his head on a turnbuckle, killing him instantly.

All kinds of lawsuits were thrown around after this. The harness makers were blamed. The cable makers were blamed. The popular theory that Owen was given the Blazer gimmick as punishment for refusing to take a more risque gimmick. So, naturally, Vince is blamed (with good reason, imo).

But honestly, it was probably just one of those freak things. As mentioned before, this stunt had been done hundreds of times in wrestling arenas, but this time it didn't work out and the industry lost one of the true good guys.

Jaton 10-03-2005 12:24 AM

OM I love tivo. I set it to record a week ago and forgot about it. YES!

The Cerebral Assassin 10-03-2005 12:33 AM

Anyone catch the new Bret Hart footage?

loopydate 10-03-2005 12:40 AM

Yeah. That was kind of cool. It didn't dawn on me at first, but then I realized "Wow. That's Bret Hart on a WWE special. Weird."

Loose Cannon 10-03-2005 12:41 AM

what was it? It was most likely from his DVD/from the day he was filming stuff for his DVD.

loopydate 10-03-2005 12:45 AM

It was just studio stuff with him commenting on Owen. Was he in any other segments (I didn't start watching until really late)?

I know it's all speculation now but if he hadn't hit his head on the turnbuckle would he have possibly survived ? Any guess on how long the drop was?

loopydate 10-03-2005 01:06 AM

He still would have suffered some huge injuries. He fell 90 feet (27.4 m) into the ring, which is the equivalent of falling out of a nine-story building. Even if he hadn't hit his head, he probably would have broken almost every bone in his body.

Fox 10-03-2005 01:20 AM

At least he would be alive.

Considering it is a wrestling ring and has some give to it, if he had landed directly on his feet he would have broken every single bone in each leg, but he would be alive today.

On a related and somewhat interesting note, I read somewhere that he actually yelled for the referee to get out of the way as he fell. Talk about a guy who didn't deserve to die.

Jaton 10-03-2005 01:25 AM

Yeah, I remember reading that too.

Joey Slugs 10-03-2005 01:29 AM

when did they show the exposed? the way i heard it, it was only being shown after Homecoming.

Vietnamese Crippler 10-03-2005 03:18 AM

10 PM here on the West coast

Ninti the Mad 10-03-2005 03:33 AM

Yeah, I saw it. Own Hart shoulda been number 1 though.

Xerzes 10-03-2005 03:40 AM

Owen wasn't number 1 because ending the show on a sad note is less fun than ending it on discussion of the beer truck, which is lots of fun. And yeah, seeing and hearing both Bret Hart and Jeff Jarrett on a WWE show was a bit of a shock.

Ninti the Mad 10-03-2005 03:48 AM

The Jeff Jarrett bit was an old recording from the memorial show.

Only the Bret Hart one was new.

Ninti the Mad 10-03-2005 03:48 AM

Plus, your rationale behind the Owen not being number 1 is retarded.

You got a good point there. This was actually discussed a bit during RAW's 10th Anniversary, that many thought Owen's accident would have been the number one moment. But the Austin beer truck was. So Owen was moved towards the end, but not the very end of the show.

I actually missed this show, so I'll have to watch it after RAW.

The MAC 10-03-2005 10:50 AM

Do you think owen would got a chance at the heavy weight title?

Damn Owen was a funny guy!

The MAC 10-03-2005 10:50 AM

WOAH ? BRET HART INTERVIEW ON RAW ? how the FUCK did that happen..someone explain this to me - a clip would be even better

Disturbed316 10-03-2005 10:51 AM

Any idea if it's gonna be shown in the UK?

I doubt it is, but :-\

Londoner 10-03-2005 10:59 AM

I hope so disturbed, it might be one those 'WWE special' programmes that they show every now and then over here, like what they did with Eddie Guerrero, benoit..etc...

did you not see my explanation. I haven't seen it, but I'm positive it was from the days he was in Stamford filming his DVD.

hb2k 10-03-2005 03:12 PM

Just to elaborate on the Owen thing for the guy that didn't know - Owen was released from his harness when his snap shackle broke, and he fell a measured 78 feet. The snap shackle was purchased internationally by those in charge of the stunt, and they didn't realise, or neglected to take note of the fact, that it was meant to be used on sailboats, and realistically, couldn't hold much more than 25 pounds of pressure.

Gone Mad 10-03-2005 04:32 PM

Make sense why the Owen moment wasn't number 1, just as long as it was at the top. It was that one moment I cried like a baby because yeah, he was the reason I got into wrestling and just like that, he was gone and just the way they all talked about him showed how really great the man truly was.

And as for the other moments, I completely forgot how really really raunchy the shows used to be. LOL @ Chyna/ Snow moment being said by JR.

Nark Order 10-03-2005 05:37 PM

Double J's comments about Owen make me tear up everytime I see it.

Rob 10-03-2005 06:48 PM

I still miss Owen
