acute means short term, but severe. When you're in the condition he was in after the surgery, you can get things like pneumonia easier as your immune system is to weak to fight it. Pneumonia is a common complication following surgery.

Yeah, it's definitely a possibility. "Complications after surgery" was basically the cause.

Although possible granted, like RWLOD said, it does seem a tad strange how something like that could be mis-diagnosed (sp?) from a bloodclot to pneumonia
