How do I find my "WEP Key"
Windows XP
YOU set the WEP key in your router's configuration utility :o
what does that mean
You don't need to "find" your WEP key, you're the one that's supposed to make it up.
yes
lol what the fuck
a wep key is used to encrypt our wireless internet access VIA A ROUTER. you set it up in your router configuration utility located at 192.168.x.x or something similar what do you need it for exactly? |
Well aside from all other irrelavant info I "obtained" a laptop, but when I try to get "connection" at my house it says somethiing like a network cable is unplugged. Enter the WEP key to continue.
So it is on my router?
Yeah. WEP key is supplied by the admin of the router, it's like a password so that joe blow can't park outside your house and use your internet connection.
oh ok. I got it. :o
Thanks a ton guys |
Wait, nevermind.
So is it physically "on" my router, or not. And if not how would I "find" it because I have no idea what it would be |
You have to access it through a computer connected to the router, and then you change it from there.
What kind of router do you have? Linksys? |
yeah Linksys B
wireless if that means anything
and you're trying to connect wirelessly from ur laptop right?
go to a computer physically (with a wire) connected to your router type 192.168.1.1 into your "preferred internet browser" type ur pass click wireless at the top click wireless security under where you just clicked wireless it will show you 4 WEP keys all of which should work type one of them (first one is what i use) into ur laptop where it asks for it |
ALSO YOU WONT BELIEVE IT My WEP Key was actually writeen on a little piece of paper taped underneath my router. Ecxept it was one character off, so the first thing I tried was what was on that paper, but it was just slightly off. WOW do I feel dumb now. :o thx a ton buddies |
