Who should replace JR?

Well it won't be the UFC guy.

So who should it be?

James Steele 10-10-2005 09:50 PM

JR should replace JR

PullMyFinger 10-11-2005 12:28 AM

Tony Shiavone! hahahahha

loopydate 10-11-2005 12:30 AM

I'd love to see Joey Styles. But, honestly, I could do a better job than JR has for the last half-decade. I have a degree in Broadcast & Cinematic Arts and another in Electronic Media. Plus, TV and radio experience... Hold on, I need to find a fax machine. :D

That guy had to be the most annoying prick with a headset of all time. I think he used to have a competition with himself to see how many times he could say Monday Nitro in one part of a show.

The thought did occur to me actually, been as he's on the cabanna next week and has absolutely no apparent reason for being there.

marking out for Foley...altho, foley as a play-by-play guy I don't think will work too well.
he did do a fine job at one night stand...as did joey styles.

Personally, I wouldn't want joey styles tho.

Seriously, what about Josh Mathews. Its clear that the move to USA is like a new era for the WWE, and I think they should start fresh with a new commentator. Josh mathews loves wrestling, is fairly knowledgable and I think would fit in well with Coach (and to a lesser extent Lawler).

whose the play-by-play guy on heat?

Innovator 10-11-2005 01:43 AM

Joey Styles, please Vince

another thought.

it may not change, but @ taboo Tuesday, one of the stips may be who will be the announcer?

Nark Order 10-11-2005 04:10 AM

I'd want either Foley or Nash. And seeing as how Nash is in TNA... Foley.

Mick would actually do a good job commentating IMO. I hope it is him.

.44 Magdalene 10-11-2005 04:22 AM

Foley appeared on some sports show--Damned Sports Show Period, maybe, one of those kinda shows--and said something about coming back, but not in a wrestling role.

That's what my friend Scott said, anyway.

That, and Foley's coming on the Cabana next week...it just seems to make sense to me.

Mr. Nerfect 10-11-2005 05:15 AM

I love Mick Foley and find him as enjoyable and entertaining as the next guy, but I really don't think it would be a good idea to have three colour guys in one commentating booth. Have Foley do Heat or something.

Joey Styles would be a good, but for some reason I just can't see it happening. As my fellow Aussie has already stated, the one person who I think would be perfect for the job, and is already employed by the WWE, is Josh Mathews.

The guy has an extensive wrestling knowledge, he loves the sport, he can get in the ring and it won't be completely crap because he's got some training. The guy has set up chemistry with Steve Romero on Velocity, so I think he can set up chemistry with Coachman and Lawler as well.

Seriously, Josh Mathews has the potential to be one of the commentating greats, all they need to do is give him the chance.

*three weeks later*

PAT: Hello ladies and gentlemen, this is Slee P. Daight live on RAW with my broadcast partners Jerry the King Lawler and... wait a moment, you're not Vietnamese Crippler!!!

COACH: :wtf:

Tornado 10-11-2005 06:48 AM

I always thought William Regal would make an awesome commentator.

What? Foley did a terrible job at ONS. He turned up without knowing a whole lot about wrestler histories or move sets and tried to blag his way through the broadcast on charisma and wit alone. If Joey Styles hadn't have been there to fill us in on all the action in the ring, Foley would have had giant egg on his face.

Foley can't play-by-play. He has a sense of humour but you wouldn't want him on RAW for 2 hours because that's all you'd get.

Matthews is the dogs bollocks. He knows his wrestling and his wrestlers, although I don't think he's quite ready for the big time yet. I can't take him seriously at the moment because he still has that comedy act element to his appearance. Give him another year or two on Velocity to find his niche and then bring him up, definately.

I definately agree he isn't ready for the big time yet, but desperate times call for desperate measures. If Coach and King can't hold the show together, I wouldn't be opposed to them giving Josh Mathews a tryout. The guy is pretty much a light-commentator, but he hasn't really been given the heavy material to work with. Give him Kurt Angle, Edge, Triple H, Ric Flair, Big Show, Kane, etc. and I really think he'll be able to add to the stories these guys are telling.

If I were in the position that WWE mangement, I would put Josh Mathews on as a replacement to Jim Ross until "another suitable one can be found". This gives him the exposure of the big time, but doesn't commit him to it. Sort of like how Late Night with Conan O'Brien started. Conan was supposed to replace David Letterman, but he went out there for a night, and he was so good he stuck. Perhaps Josh Mathews has been holding back.

A few more years in the woodshed never hurt anyone, though.

Londoner 10-11-2005 08:42 AM

I've got a feeling Foley will go on Carlito's Cabana and either a) announce himself as JR's replacement or b) announce Paul Heyman as JR's replacement. And also explain what role he himself is back in.

Bo 10-11-2005 10:15 AM

Shouldnt it be Michael Cole. Since he has been bitching about not being on the top show.

Londoner 10-11-2005 10:44 AM

When has he been bitching about that? And no, it definately shouldn't be Micheal Cole.

Chavo Classic 10-11-2005 10:49 AM

Cole did a decent job covering JR in early 99 but I wouldn't rate him higher than the Coach, Matthews and DeMott.

I'm actually surprised DeMott hasn't been mentioned until now actually. The guy made Velocity great with his 'Turning Point'. Loved it

Crashnburn 10-11-2005 12:02 PM

If there's any justice in the world (there isn't) it will be Joey Styles.

Gertner 10-11-2005 12:37 PM

Kevin Nash

Marc the Smark 10-11-2005 07:50 PM

I say it should be Josh Matthews, and the Coach sucks.

weather vane 10-11-2005 07:54 PM

Joey Styles is the ovious choice for most people. He is unreal.

Although JR will return.

Nark Order 10-11-2005 08:09 PM

Heyman

Shadow 10-11-2005 08:19 PM

Fuck you all.

They'll ressurect Gorilla Monsoon from the dead and he'll take over JR's spot.

Stickman 10-11-2005 10:40 PM

The Macho Man Randy Savage.
