Remaining WCW talent (from the invasion)...

Is it really just down to Booker T, Chavo, and Helms? (Stacey and Torrie don't count as talent). And was Flair part of the invasion? I really cannot remember. I know Rey and Bishoff came in after that whole mess, and Juvi and Psycosis were only signed recently...so am I forgetting anyone? Or does this just prove again how much the invasion really failed?

That looks like it could very well be the last WCW roster, just looking at it.

Booker T - WCW United States Champion
Shane Helms - Working on RAW
Mike Awesome - Touring with NOAH as The Gladiator
Rey Misterio - Working on SD (not part of Invasion)
Kidman - Released this past July
Shawn Stasiak - Inactive (far as I know)
Lance Storm - Runs a wrestling school in Calgary
Elix Skipper - Working in TNA
Evan Karagias - Inactive (far as I know)
Shannon Moore - Working indy shows
Chavo Guerrero Jr. - Now "Kerwin White" on RAW
Hugh Morrus - Works as a trainer at WWE dev. territory Deep South
Chuck Palumbo - Working indy shows (I think)
Mark Jindrak - 90-day no-compete clause just expired
Sean O'Haire - Doing MMA shows
Mike Sanders - Working indy shows
Kaz Hayashi - Working in Japan
Yun "Jimmy/Akio" Yang - 90-day no-compete clause just expired

So, I count four guys who were around since the Invasion, plus Misterio, who was with the promotion until the bitter end (but didn't sign with WWE).

What about Flair? Was he a part of the invasion, or not?

Xero 10-29-2005 01:50 PM

No, Flair came in the night after Survivor Series and announced that he had bought Stephanie and Shane's stocks in the company. It eventually led to the brand split.

Yeah. Vince didn't bring in any top-name WCW stars at all (save maybe Booker). DDP signed a couple of months into the Invasion. Flair came in after the company had been thoroughly squashed. Goldberg, nWo, Scott Steiner, etc. all came in after WWF had resoundingly destroyed WCW in every possible way.

And this, my friends, is where I lost any faith in the WWE's ability to book any angle properly.

"You know what would draw?"

"What?"

"If WCW invades the WWE!"

"Yeah!"

"You know what would really kick ass?"

"What?"

"If we got absolutely none of the big names to join up!"

"Errrr...Okay, you lost me there."

yea flair's aol wcw contract was to big flair made more sitting out so he went to wwe latter.

Kane Knight 10-29-2005 03:26 PM

Same's true for a lot of guys.

What's funny is someone around that time kept trying to tell me the WWE had NO interest in Sting at all.

Or Goldberg.

Or Shawn Michaels.

Okay, I made that last one up.

i think vince cared more about making wcw look bad then having a good invation angle, so i don't even think he tried to get the big names in till the wcw name was killed. thats vince putting his ego above bussness.

PullMyFinger 10-29-2005 09:25 PM

Forget the Invasion, besides Flair or Rey, any WCW that came into WWF was made to look like absolute shite!

Even the nWo Angle was a piece of shit!

mrslackalack 10-29-2005 10:47 PM

25 wrestlers were included in the WCW purchase. Booker T and DDP accepted buyouts of their contracts. I think somewhat that Vince wanted WCW to look bad but they did try to get Nash,Flair, Steiner and Bischoff in for the Invasion. But Nash wanted to wait until his contract ran out. Flair was thinking about starting his own fed, Steiner was hurt and Bischoff had other interests. But yeah I am dissapointed that there is a lack of WCW talent in WWE currently.

I'm not. The talent in WCW near to its demise was part of the reason why the product sucked such a fat cock.

I'm disappointed that Vince purchased WCW to begin with because the arrival the WCW "talent" increased the competition and halted the progress potential other young talents in the WWE (such as Edge, Christian and Hardy) who are only now reaching the main event. The purchase put his own product back about 2 years.

Woah Chavo where have you been?

Actually, Page was there from the beginning. Hell, the only one that might have shown up before Page in the WWF was Lance Storm. Remember, Page had that angle where he was Sara Calloway's stalker.

DDP didn't reveal himself until June 18, 2001. Lance Storm invaded on March 28. The Invasion started right around WrestleMania, but DDP didn't appear in-ring until just before King of the Ring. He may have signed from the beginning, but he wasn't there from the beginning. So, "signed" was probably the wrong word, but you get my point.

Um, Booker T and co. didn't actually DO anything until the time DDP was around either. Lance Storm showed up and after that, it was more a fight between Shane and Vince McMahon.

loopydate 10-30-2005 02:34 PM

You're right. I remembered there being more of an invasion before DDP showed up, but I was looking up some of the "early" WCW invaders and, Lance Storm aside, most of it happened in the weeks leading up to KOR. I guess I just thought that having all the WCW guys in the box at WMX7 was because the invasion had started. I was wrong.
