Alternative to Limewire

Limewire's library is beginning to frustrate, are there any other peer2peer programs? A collegue has suggested Ares, but I'd really like some reassurance and/or help from you guys.

Also, limewire is the biggest resource hog ever. It's the only program I have that I can't run with anything else simultaneously.

Just use torrents.

Not so great for finding older albums. Know of any good music torrent sites?

Ares is suppose to be pretty good. If you don't want to go with torrents then I'd try Ares.

I use Ares, and I absolutely adore it.

Funky Fly 11-04-2005 08:32 PM

WTF? You have to pay for Ares? Is there anything that's FREE?

Funky Fly 11-04-2005 08:40 PM

Ok, after a little more checking, it seems there are 2 different p2p programs called Ares. A free open source one, and one that you have to buy membership for.

yeah limewire uses a lot of resorces, but it ran shitty on my old comp when i only had windows98, but now i have xp and a must faster computer and it works fine, just get limewire pro, download limewire, and then search for pro and its free, when usually you have to pay for it. you can always get kazaa and morphues but i think they both suck now.....id give my arm for the old napster days!

It seems difficult to find files that will download on Ares, but once I do, they seem to transfer pretty quickly.

Yeah, it's mostly on who you download from. It's nothing for me to get far over 100 KBS after a download starts. Naturally, the most sources the better.

But yeah, Ares (the free one) runs better than any P2P program I've used. Certainly beats Kazaa/Morpheus down, that's for sure.

Ares gives me that poblem a lot. Frankly, I've all but stopped downloading. Anything hat I can't find with a torrent isn't worth this much hassle. It's a bit of a bother ATM though, since a friend of mine wants a bunch of songs (she's too computer illiterate to manage it herself) and half of them are old and kinda rare.

Kazaa Lite

Funky Fly 01-08-2006 04:48 PM

Nah, it was being gay, so I uninstalled it.

If you are smart enough to work dc++ or one of those server type programs, It's the best, but if you are behind a router like me, to use it to its full extent, you have to do all this port mapping, and creaqt a static IP, and this takes ages.

If your router supports UPnP you will be ok

Shareaza http://shareaza.sourceforge.net/
Great P2P that connects to multiple servers and programs.

Funny, I run LimeWire at home and it runs just fine. I let it download 8 songs int he background while I make animations in Flash and do grpahical design in Photoshop. I have like 512 MB of RAM (maybe even less) and a 2½-year-old laptop to boot.

Try Morpheus. Very similiar to LimeWire, I use Morpheus all the time.
