Looking back: The Billy and Chuck Wedding

Fall of 2002:

Yoooooooouuuuu

looook

soooooo

good to me

Thoughts on this angle at the time? Where did you think it was going? They were hyping this wedding on Regis and Kelly saying it was going to be the first same sex marriage in the WWE.

Then the swerve. But then again, they do an invasion angle for every Survivor Series and they revealed Eric Bischoff to be the father or whatever

Did you like it?

Funky Fly 11-12-2005 04:52 AM

I was disappointed, because I realized there was no way to end it without stupidity involved.

Loose Cannon 11-12-2005 09:18 AM

One of the best angles and payoffs fo 2002 imo (meaning the wedding payoff, not the match that followed). Loved the gimmick and thought they brought a ton of cred to the tag division as champs. They played the part perfectly and worked fluently together as a team.

The whole wedding was a huge markout for me because I did not see that whole thing coming with Bischoff. When he delievered that "3 minutes" line, my mouth went  Seriously. Great stuff.

Kane Knight 11-12-2005 09:26 AM

I wanted to see them make out...

...So I could vomit, because neither one is attractive.

Xero 11-12-2005 09:51 AM

If they had gone through with the marriage, they would have been on every gay magazine this side of Japan.

Which is why Vince scrapped the whole thing and had Bischoff interfere.

As opposed to now, running with Randy Orton, faggot icon.

But seriously, every wrestling mag is a gay mag.

<font color=goldenrod>That angle made me mark out

Bischoff (in old man voice): This could last 50 years, 16 months, or 3 minutes.....
(normal voice): WAIT A MINUTE!!! Did I just hear myself say.......3 minutes????

Me:

I read the spoilers so I knew what would happen, yet it STILL made me mark out</font>

Gertner 11-12-2005 10:42 AM

Billy and Chcuk were Tremendous

Loose Cannon 11-12-2005 10:53 AM

The best part about the wedding was that even though Bischoff was a heel, you still cheered the fuck out of him and 3 Minute Warning because you finally got to see him pay back Steph. It was like a total reversal of babyface/heel. CLASSIC.

People also love to cheer a catchphrase.

Loose Cannon 11-12-2005 10:58 AM

yea, that too. It's funny, if you watch the crowd during the segment and you hear Bischoff say "3 minutes' in the priest voice, you can see people get that look on thier face like "oh shit."

I love watching reactions like that.

Kane Knight 11-12-2005 11:03 AM

It was fucking awesome.

John la Rock 11-12-2005 11:47 AM

lots of hype from outside the wrestling world. kind of dissapointed in the end. I don't think they should have said "we're not gay" but should have backed out of the wedding another way

"You cheated on me...WITH RICO!"

"Yeah well...So did YOU!"

Stickman 11-12-2005 12:47 PM

That storyline was pretty gay if you ask me........I crack myself up

You are such a homophobe. What could be gay about two men marrying each other in front of wrestlers?

(YEah, I know you were joking).

BobBitchen 11-12-2005 01:43 PM

I thought the whole thing was stupid but I marked out when Eric busted it up.

Killjoy3:16 11-12-2005 07:03 PM

Dumb angle, no one cares. That's a prime example on why I stopped watching until 2 months ago.

LK 11-12-2005 07:25 PM

I liked Billy and Chuck as a team and Rico was perfect for his role. As for the 'wedding', I can't say I was too bothered about it but when I saw this old guy say "it doesn't matter if it last's 50 years, 16 months *pause* or three minutes.", I just went "can't be" and then he takes off the mask and it's Bischoff. I thought it was great and the segment was a highlight in a time where WWE was at a fairly low point.

When he said that I grinned from ear to ear.

Seriously. Nobody cared. Which is why it got all that attention. Justbecause you're a little sissy and refused to watch wrestling until two weeks ago doesn't mean the world stopped. :)

FourFifty 11-13-2005 01:50 AM

Hmph, this thread has been going on for too long. Like, three minutes too long.

....Wait a second... Did I just hear myself say "Three Minutes?"

I'd like to see Roesy take off the superhero mask and become The Three Minute Warning. No Jamal, just have Rosey do the gimmick solo.

el fregadero 11-13-2005 01:55 AM

I thought it was great. Bischoff's "3 Minutes" line left my quite surprised.

Three minutes? Fuck. *Puts self through table*

TerranRich 11-13-2005 01:15 PM

Anybody have video of this? I missed it at the time.

Dorkchop 11-13-2005 02:09 PM

I loved the idea of it. I wanted them to get married. I loved the tag team. It would have been something completely different. It would have made them a permanent tag team. There haven't been too many tag teams like that. What actually happened was pretty sweet. It's just too bad that Billy and Chuck couldn't make it as singles wrestlers in the WWE after that.
