Will WWE finally look at TNA as competion?

Now that Christian bascially said he'd rather be in TNA? And who do you think will be the next to follow Christian, if any?

addy2hotty 11-14-2005 06:13 PM

No, they will not.

Destor 11-14-2005 06:14 PM

If any of TNAs people went to the E, they would say they would rather be their then TNA. You always put over the company you are currently working for. Whether its true or not, its hardly a reason to start fearing TNA.

Nark Order 11-14-2005 06:29 PM

If TNA picks up Benoit, WWE is fucked.

LK 11-14-2005 06:31 PM

No

LK 11-14-2005 06:32 PM

Same even if Benoit joins.

Kane Knight 11-14-2005 07:07 PM

Captain Midcarder's gonna make them take it seriously?

BigDaddyCool 11-14-2005 07:12 PM

No, never. As soon as TNA gets a prime time tv spot, and has more than 3 fans, then they might take them as a threat.

Nark Order 11-14-2005 07:58 PM

Naw, if Benoit joins I guarentee TNA's fanbase will double.

Yeah, cause Benoit is such a huge draw.

Nark Order 11-14-2005 08:19 PM

He's one of the best workers in the entire business and fans recognize this. Benoits style mixed with TNA's fast paced action, it would draw.

Now sew your lips shut, sparky.

Benoit is a great worker, but he has never been huge draw, and there is no way he would double their audience. I may be a Benoit fan, but I do live in reality. You should try it.

McLegend 11-14-2005 08:24 PM

Wow Destor you have done the biggest flip flop on TNA I have ever seen.

I didn't say he wouldn't be good for them. He just not going to double thier audience, thats giving Benoit too much credit.

Nowhere Man 11-14-2005 08:41 PM

If anything, WWE is probably looking at TNA in much the same way they looked at ECW: an indy-fed that's getting too big for its breeches. And, like ECW, will end up using it as a resource for buying out new talent. They should be more concerned about keeping more of their upper-midcard talent from quitting, since the loss of established names will hurt WWE a lot more than anything TNA will do to them (especially now due to the losses in the main event scene).

I'm a huge fan of TNA myself, but they simply don't have the money, the proper timeslot (though to Spike's credit, the advertising for them is way better than when ECW was on their network), the brand recognition, or the name value to become serious competition to Vince's show. And even with them getting Christian to their roster, it's going to take a hell of a lot more to get WWE (and more importantly, the audience) to take notice.

PullMyFinger 11-14-2005 11:19 PM

Remember, they don't have the money at the moment. However, when some profit starts coming in, Panda will funnel more money in there.

However, I do agree in that TNA is no threat to WWE at the moment. Only thing is, with Christian joining, it has sent a little bit more shockwaves in the wrestling world.

Finally, ECW and TNA are totally different...TNA is a lot more mainstream than ECW...only thing is, at the moment it looks like a poor man's WCW.

MVP 11-15-2005 12:05 AM

WWE won't see them as competition, but it'd be a real slap in the face to WWE if they put the TNA belt right on Xtian.

Of course, a poor man's WCW is still more mainstream than ECW was.

It would be good to see Benoit wrestle a match that isn't booked by ultra safe morons.

Imagine an unleashed Benoit wrestling how HE wanted!

Remember though his history with his neck. Who's to say he WANTs to take those kind of risks?

Pfft. Kurt Angle won an Olympic Gold Medal with a broken freakin' neck! How could Benoit ever use his neck as an excuse after that?

But yeah, he might be happy where he is. He's certainly not all he used to be...

ThruTheWire 11-15-2005 09:58 AM

The way you have to look at it is that every well known WWE star that defects to TNA will even have the marks wondering where he went and then they will likely check out TNA. I don't think Christian will be the last by a long shot.

Plus one day it will start working the other way, that's what I used to like about the WCW/WWE wars, when Jericho showed up it was huge!

I know Monty Brown was close to signing as were AMW recently, but give it another year and some people may care.

Not to shit on Christian, but he's been a jobber in the WWE. He even went out as a total jobber. His big push consisted of him jobbing to bigger people. Sure, he's got what it takes, but you can't tell me the casuals weren't thinking of him as a total loser...

Kane Knight 11-15-2005 11:27 AM

(And yes I know he had a huge crowd response, but people in the stands =/= the casual viewer).

Sadistic 11-15-2005 01:40 PM

I'm glad TNA is getting all this advertising. All the casual fan needs to do is see TNA once and they will realise how shit, boring and repetitive WWE is.
And now, with WWE stars moving to TNA, this will result in more casual fans checking out TNA. And remember, all they have to do is see TNA once and then they will watch it again and again.

Yes, that's all it takes!

I take it you haven't watched to TNA shows yet then. If so you'd know that all the shows they do follow the same format. I mean every ending to the show seems to be the same thing every week.

So watching TNA once? nah. watching it twice? that may make them stop watching.

Tell me about it. The only reason I keep watching it is because I'm a diehard wrestling fan.

Boondock Saint 11-15-2005 08:28 PM

TNA sometimes makes me flip to SNL. And SNL is ATROCIOUS these days.

BigChris 11-15-2005 08:53 PM

You know Christian is a midcarder, but so was Eddie Guerrero and Chris Benoit when they came to WWF, and look what they have done since.

The difference is, they were jumping from a smaller show to a larger show.

This wasn't about whether Christian could succeed, it was about whether Crhistian was really a reason for the WWE to be pissing themselves.
