Ex-wrestler helps others pin down a career move
Lethal Weapon of WWF runs school in city

"Drill some of those escapes," the former six-time Hardcore WWF champion known as Lethal Weapon says to the pairs of wrestlers grappling in the ring.

The sparsely equipped rented gym on North Sixth Street in Harrisburg is a long way from the laser-lighted arenas where Steve Blackman shined as one of the former World Wrestling Federation's stars, wrestling around the world off and on from 1986 to 2001.

Gone are the chanting crowds. No more kicking butt on "Raw is War" two-hour specials on Monday nights. Lethal Weapon action figures are no longer hot items on eBay.

Blackman is back in the trenches.

The 42-year-old native of Lebanon County operates Steve Blackman's Pro Wrestling School for guys who aspire to become pro wrestlers or ultimate fighters.

At a recent class, Doychin Manchorov, a former Bulgarian national champion in Greco-Roman wrestling, exhausted his opponents one by one. After an hour, he'd had enough, too, sporting a ripening bruise under his right eye.

"You're afraid from bears, don't go in the woods," Manchorov said of the injury.

That's the attitude a fighter needs, Blackman said.

"If you're in the WWE for a living, you have to be able to deal with a lot of pain," he said. The World Wrestling Federation is now World Wrestling Entertainment.

"I've thought about going back quite a few times -- on days I feel good. On days my neck hurts, I don't," Blackman said.

Hope someone else teaches them charisma.

Favre4Ever 11-26-2005 03:06 PM

Wasn't no charisma actually part of Blackmans gimmick though?

Jaton 11-26-2005 03:11 PM

Fuck you. Blackman was the man. His theme music made me happy.

No personality maybe, and that was only given to him because he had no charisma.

Cool King 11-26-2005 03:16 PM

I heard a rumor that Blackman was backstage at No Way Out last year.

He was talking to some of the wrestlers and he was interested in making a return.

Boondock Saint 11-26-2005 05:51 PM

Blackman was the man.

Gertner 11-26-2005 05:53 PM

lol Blackman sucked ass.

Isn't blackman retired because of chronic migraines, or am I confusing him with someone?

Drakul 11-26-2005 11:15 PM

I think it was his neck that made him retire. I have also heard he was wanting to return soon but that was around about the time of No Way Out a year ago.

PullMyFinger 11-26-2005 11:46 PM

I remember when they turned him heel, and the fans didn't even notice and still cheered him. lmao

Kane Knight 11-26-2005 11:59 PM

Was he a face before that?:?:

PullMyFinger 11-27-2005 12:16 AM

Yeah, I think so. I mean the fans cheered for him because he was against Dan Severn???? or the late Owen Hart.

Kane Knight 11-27-2005 12:22 AM

I liked Blackman as a peformer, but he really did lack charisma. IT's hard to think of him as a face, because it's hard to picture him being over with a crowd.

Steve Blackman should return, right along with Sean Waltman. They'll rule the tag team scene on SmackDown for a while, then hop over to Raw and beat Kane and The Big Show to become the first ever undisputed tag team champions. After that their egos will become too big and they'll fight each other after they have a great ending like Bret Hart and Lex Luger had years and years ago. With John Cena out with a groin injury because of a sneak attack by Harry Potter the main event at WrestleMania will be Steve Blackman VS Sean Waltman, and then a whole three people might care.

Wait. Are you sure Cena wasn't Jerking off to Harry Potter?

FourFifty 11-27-2005 12:52 AM

I'm quite sure Harry Potter casted the crucio curse on Cena's groin. He's sentanced to a life in Azkaban, but the writers will forget about that in a few weeks.

...When they inexplicably team up.
