Damn, I remember Tunney from when I just started to get into wrestling, really sad news :( RIP

Disturbed316 01-26-2004 03:37 PM

Holy Crap  :(

I remember Tunney from the good ol' days, wonder if the WWE will say anything about this?

:'( RIP

Corkscrewed 01-26-2004 03:55 PM

Damn. Wasn't he the "WWF President?" My memory is foggy. If so, at least it wasn't a tragic death (I think).

Innovator 01-26-2004 03:57 PM

damn. He was the man in charge when I started watching. Back when positions of authority actually meant something in the WWE. Tunney will be missed.

loopydate 01-26-2004 04:09 PM

I was just watching Royal Rumble '94 yesterday and when he came out to settle the Bret/Luger dispute, I remember thinking "God, Tunney was cool. I wonder whatever happened to him." Now I know. Poor guy.

Anybody Thrilla 01-26-2004 04:28 PM

Tunney's character was quite boring and lame, in my opinion.

Still, sucks to see him go, R.I.P.

Razor Rybek 01-26-2004 04:31 PM

R.I.P :'(

Head 01-26-2004 04:36 PM

At least he lived a full life.

The memory of his that sticks out most in my mind is him presenting Flair with the title after the 1992 Royal Rumble.

He was a product of a diffrent era.

LoL... Tunney was the shit. Just a few months ago i was thinking they should give somebody a Jack Tunney role. Back in the good old days where it wasn't a constant war between the faces and the management.

Tunney was cool, I'm sure he's happier where ever he is now.

ColdwaVer 01-26-2004 06:06 PM

For some reason I thought he was dead already. It sucks tho, he was a great on-screen guy. I've wondered, ever since I started thinking about such things, who WAS he anyways? I mean, was he just a guy they had play the "WWF President" on-screen, or did he have an actual position in the company?

Mike the Metal Ed 01-26-2004 06:37 PM

All I know of him, was when he vacated the Intercontinental Title, setting up HBK vs Razor Ramon... he will be sadly missed.

I remember back days whenever you saw Tunney YOU KNEW something really big/important was gonna go down.

Now... :(

Anyone remember why he left the WWE? Or did he just really retire?

I think they realised that a "president" role wasn't so important once Vince came into the whole mic role of chairman! either way :'( :'( RIP brother

FourFifty 01-26-2004 10:06 PM

Rest in Peace, you shall be missed... Thank you for everything you've done. :wavesad:

Jack Tunney was part of the wrestling Tunney family of promoters in Canada and had an important position with WWE Canada, he may have even been Carl DeMarco's predecessor, I'm not quite sure. As far as being "WWF President" goes, that was just an on-screen figurehead role, and he was a victim of the budget cuts in 1995, when he was replaced as President by Gorilla Monsoon.

FakeLaser 01-26-2004 11:35 PM

Jack Tunney was the man. RIP.

Arashi Kage 01-26-2004 11:35 PM

I recall the segment when Tunney proclaimed that Luger would have to place this pad/brace thing over the metal plate in his forearm.

Now that I think about it, the most memorable Tunney-related moments to me were when he ordered a rematch between Hogan and the Undertaker after Survivor Series 91, and declared the title vacant following said rematch. Being young and markish, the idea of declaring "No WWF Champion" stunned me, leaving me in awe of the man with the power to do that.[/QUOTE]

EazyMack 01-27-2004 02:47 AM

I'd been wondering what happened to him as well. R.I.P.

KayfabeMan 01-27-2004 03:40 AM

Jack was part of a great, great family. They ran wrestling in certain
areas for quite some time. Another one from the "good old days" is
now gone. May He Rest In Peace :(

OMG, I remember that too! At the time, I thought it was absolutely hilarious because how could a clothesline be so dangerous??? Even at that young age, I guess I sensed something interestingly wrong about a "bionic forearm."

But it was hilarious when Lugar's arm was proclaimed a weapon.

Good times.

Sephiroth 01-27-2004 08:59 AM

Well R.I.P. Jack Tunney :wavesad: :'(
