Chronicals of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe

Saw it last night, I thought it was really well done. I haven't the slightest idea how well it followed the book, I hadn't read it since I was in elementary school, but overall I thought it was a pretty good movie.

Destor 12-10-2005 11:04 PM

I'd have to agree, it was good. But not great. Solid performances and voice-overs all around, I was very impressed. The production value was also very solid, though at times you could tell they cut the CG department short on funds. I thought they handled the transition from book to film very well, though I can see people who obsess over details to be up in arms. Over all one pos E-thumbs out of two: :y:

Hooray for E-thumbs.

Destor 12-10-2005 11:15 PM

You know you love it.

About the voice overs, some of them didn't seem to fit very well, like the wolf

Volchok 12-10-2005 11:34 PM

Yeah I just got done reading the book in school, my class is going like... either this week or next week, I dunno. But it looks good.

loopydate 12-10-2005 11:35 PM

When I first heard that there were Christian groups encouraging their congregations to go and see the movie, I was surprised. They kept calling it a Christian allegory. Of course, it's probably been 15 years since I've read the books (and was eight years old at the time), so I didn't remember anything of the sort.

But, after seeing it yesterday, I can definitely see where they're coming from. Aslan is very much a Christ/God figure (for many reasons I won't go into out of fear of spoiling this for someone).

I enjoyed it, and now I need to go back and read the books again. I remember really enjoying them as a child, but, again, that was a decade and a half ago.

Its Micheal Madsen come on! He's the man. The wolf had a gritty voice that sounded like he smoked a few too many cigarettes, and it worked. But there were times where it did seem like he was reading it off a page, maybe even a little lazy, but it was rare; nevertheless I can see where you are doming from. Though I still feel he gave a well above average performance. Maybe its just the fact that the personification of animals is a little off setting?

BCWWF 12-10-2005 11:44 PM

I'm not neccessarily saying he did it bad, it just didn't seem like the voice would be coming from the wolf.

Its definitely an allegorical piece (not that you said otherwise,) the author (whose name eludes me,) wrote many Christian pieces and was a very religious man. When he wrote The Narnia Chronicles, there was no way he could possibly leave out the greatest influence anyone can ever have. He didn't, and it shows. The good thing about allegory is even if you don't share the views of the author the story can still be enjoyed with in the context of said story. But yeah, you're right on all accounts.

Rough and gritty works well, imo. Not to sound condescending, but how would have a wolf sound?

It just didn't seem like the wolf was actually talking, with the beavers etc., it actually seemed like it might be them.

Indifferent Clox 12-11-2005 03:39 PM

C.s. lewis is my favorite author i can't wait to see this!

Fox 12-11-2005 04:38 PM

I used to watch the old PBS Choronicles of Narnia movies when I was a kid, so I'm like knee-deep in the mythology. I've always wanted to see these movies made into something bigger, with a Hollywood backing and the proper special effects.

I'm going to see it tonight. Hope it won't disappoint.

If you loved all the books and shit like that you WILL love it.

Loose Cannon 12-11-2005 06:57 PM

can't wait. sometime this week I will see it

Joey Slugs 12-12-2005 02:13 PM

I loved the books and all when I was a kid, but god did the movie blow. It was so hyped up for nothing. I nearly fell asleep a few times.

I just hope Kong doesn't let me down this much.

Champion of Europa 12-12-2005 08:39 PM

I'm going to see it on Tuesday, and I will probably hate it.

Shadow 12-12-2005 08:45 PM

Was a quite good movie. Though I think the wolf could've used a different voice actor, the guy who did the wolf pulled it off rather well I thought.

And I'm a man who loves him some good voice acting.

FourFifty 12-15-2005 03:48 AM

It was the best book-to-movie movie that I've seen, albeit I heard that the book Babe does the movie more justice than The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe.

Ninti the Mad 12-16-2005 02:57 PM

Too much of a kids movie. Too much cheese.

Other than that, I lked the fantasy aspect.

loopydate 12-16-2005 07:05 PM

That's sort of to be expected from an adaptation of a kids' book, though, right? I mean, it would have been weird for it to wind up with an "R" rating and a scene of implied bestiality between Aslan and the White Witch.

Downunder 12-16-2005 07:31 PM

Saw it last night, I really liked it. It's been years and years since I read the book and I'd forgotten a lot of it, but it seemed to be a really good adaptation. I thought the violence was done really well, the lack of blood keeps it down to a PG rating so that the target audience (children, not Ninti) can still watch it.

When you watch a cartoon do you complain that its animated as well?

Champion of Europa 12-16-2005 10:13 PM

I didn't really like it. The kids were way too unlikeable.

Requiem 12-17-2005 05:24 AM

Saw it last night. Went in expecting less, and got more. All in all, a good movie. I've also never read the books, nor do I want to.

Zen v.W.o. 12-18-2005 04:02 AM

Never read the books and in fact never even heard of such books, but was asked to go. I did, and actually liked it. I'd even probably go again if someone who had not seen it yet wanted to and asked me to tag along.

Big fan of the books, the movie was average-good, but a little toned down for my liking

Ninti the Mad 12-20-2005 01:33 PM

Well, I never even heard of Narnia before the movie ever came out so I didnt know what to expect.

That movie should've been a DVD port. Not worth the theatre space.

Yeah, all the time.

Just rented "40-Year-Old Virgin." Too much of a comedy. Too many jokes.

Other than that, I lked the virgin aspect.

It works as a comedy and an actual film, because the characters are likeable and so on and so forth.

Anyways, way to completely get off topic.

loopydate 12-20-2005 05:04 PM

Yeah, I know. But I can't let a joke die. You know that.

Ninti the Mad 12-21-2005 01:15 PM

joke?

loopydate 12-21-2005 04:57 PM

Yeah, it's a funny thing that makes people laugh. Good times.

Fignuts 12-21-2005 05:06 PM

I really liked it. I thought the voice-overs were fine except for Liam Neeson. I love the guy, but his voice was just too soft for the role, IMO. They should have got James Earl Jones, since he has experience playing a Lion anyways.

Downunder 12-22-2005 03:02 AM

I thought Neeson was spot on for the Lion - I've seen it twice now, I reckon I'll probably see it again in the near future.

CharismaInjection 12-22-2005 11:34 AM

I can't wait to see it, it seems really good.
