What Year was the Peak of Angle's Career?

Many people have different opinions on this.

I personally think 2001 was when he was having his best matches and his work rate was amazing.
Don't get me wrong, his work rate is still always amazing and he still puts on good matches every time he steps into the ring.
I just remember loving him in 2001. I'm sure his main opponents (Benoit, Austin, HHH) helped make his matches great back then also.

What do you think?

2002, for the same reasons you have for why you chose 2001. 2002 was the year that him and 5 other superstars (then known as the Smackdown 6) stood out above all the rest on the entire WWE roster.

Nice one, depress me.

2007.

With a miracle in reconstructive surgery, Angle's neck will be good as new. And in a miracle of cloning, he will make Jesus tap at Wrestlemania 23 in Jerusalem.

I agree. :):y:

Or, if Jesus could be cloned first, he could cure Angle of all his injuries...

...then smite him with a passage from the Bible

You lay on hands for Angle, you tap out like a bitch.

Y3J 01-10-2006 05:00 PM

Oh son of Satan! I banish thee into the depths of TNA

Kane Knight 01-10-2006 05:15 PM

Couldn't you just send me to Hell instead? Least then I'll get a push...At Armageddon.

2001 was good, especially his matches with Chris Benoit (I could really appreciate those even then), 2002 had some solid stuff from Angle in the later part of the year, but I voted 2003. Angle vs. Benoit at the Rumble, his program with Brock Lesnar. It seemed to be his "carrying the company" year. Since then he has become a support player almost. 2005 was nice for Angle, as well, but I don't see it as his best.

Maybe 2006 will somehow top the rest?

Picked 2003 for the reasons you did, MOTY with Benoit at the Rumble and a great series of matches with Lesnar.

Innovator 01-10-2006 05:42 PM

2003, because he had programs with Benoit and Lesnar. One bad bump at Wrestlemania 19 could have paralysed him, yet Brock was the one hurting at the end of the match. He came back and got Cena up to the next level with a feud in the fall.

The Naitch 01-10-2006 07:57 PM

2003 vs. Brock. He finally main evented Wrestlemania.

Destor 01-10-2006 08:07 PM

2003 was the year of Kurt Angle.

redoneja 01-10-2006 08:09 PM

Def 2003 due to his series with Lesnar, the Triple Threat @ Vengeance, his MOTY with Beniot @ RR, and his match at No Mercy with John Cena. Just a stellar year. 2001 is a close second

The Naitch 01-10-2006 08:10 PM

I'd say he peaked twice

Non-bald: At Unforgiven vs. Austin winning the WWE Title

WrestleMania 19 (biggest one)

redoneja 01-10-2006 08:19 PM

Summerslam 2003 was also a huge victory for Kurt Angle in that he became the first person in over a year to score a clean win over Brock Lesnar, nonetheless a submission victory.

RGWhat316 01-10-2006 09:10 PM

Angle has had many great years. 2001 was probably the one that put him as a full-time main eventer. But I vote 2003 due to the fact that him and Brock carried SmackDown for majority of the year. I can also say that he peaked in '03 since that was the last time he held the title.

FourFifty 01-10-2006 11:09 PM

Spoilers, highlight to read
2006, bitches! I think Kurt hasn't peaked yet. He's been awesome, but since he won the world title I think he's going to be THE man to bring SmackDown back as a major show.

Oh it's true!

Xero 01-10-2006 11:15 PM

LOL, funny this thread is made on the very day...

John la Rock 01-10-2006 11:47 PM

2001 as soon as he lost the WWE title to Rock he became a house hold name and a proven main-eventer. Plus his matches were AMAZING especially vs Benoit in the steel cage and vs Shane in the street fight

Favre4Ever 01-11-2006 06:19 AM

2001 was the first year that his character turned face, and he proved himself to be a marketable champion. I don't like to mention it, but I think his push revolved around 9/11 occuring.

Savio 01-11-2006 07:37 AM

He's more over then he ever was now.

Y3J 01-11-2006 09:22 AM

2006

Favre4Ever 01-11-2006 09:38 AM

I was basing his peak on his accomplishments, not his overness.

Chavo Classic 01-11-2006 11:04 AM

2000 - winning the IC, Euro, King of Ring and Heavyweight championship is his full debut year. That's immense.
