Mr. WrestleMania... Rob. Van. Dam. (Contains small RAW spoiler)

For some odd, odd reason I have a funny feeling that RVD is going to win the Royal Rumble. It would be a HUGE surprise and not many people would be expecting it. It's being built up very subtly if they do it, too. Just running a few promos and having Carlito trash talk him a bit.

I know it's unlikely, but I just have that feeling. Thoughts?

Londoner 01-17-2006 10:33 AM

Nah he wont, because they're going to have a feud between him and carlito aren't they?Fuck knows who is going to win the RR though, there's no one really who should win it besides Rey/HHH or RVD.

crock69 01-17-2006 10:33 AM

As much as it would be a great surprise, it just is not going to happen. We will probably see Carlito vs. RVD at WM22.

I was thinking that IF he were to win the Rumble and IF he were to win the title his first feud could be with Carlito.

Londoner 01-17-2006 10:37 AM

I hope it happens don't get me wrong, I just don't see it happening.I think it would be too much of a risk to have that much pressure on him when he has just returned from a lengthy injury.

Disturbed316 01-17-2006 10:39 AM

I would love it if RVD came back and won the rumble. He was on such a roll with the crowd in 01/02 and he should have won the WHC from Triple H in that time. A feud with Edge would be quite interesting, but with Cena and Flair all after him, it would be hard to fit all four guys together.

Has anyone actually won the rumble when they have been advertised as returning at it? Don't think so.

Chavo Classic 01-17-2006 10:45 AM

He'll do well in the Rumble, perhaps eliminating a few and lasting until the last 4 or 5, but he won't win it. Doesn't mean that he won't be the title picture however. I'm certain that once he sees off Masters, Carlito, Kane, Flair and other midcarders in the next 12 months that he'll at least be involved by Mania 22.

Londoner 01-17-2006 10:50 AM

Ah, I think I know who they're saving the IC title for, I see a feud between Flair/RVD happening, or Carlito/Flair and Carlito beats Flair then him and RVD feud for the IC title, RVD eventually wins it at WM.That's more likely to happen.

Chavo Classic 01-17-2006 10:55 AM

It's still disappointing though. I've no problem with RVD holding the IC title, but I've got reservations about who is in the IC division at the moment. Neither Carlito, Masters and Flair will bring the best out of RVD in these matches.

Should Kane, Shelton or HBK enter the IC race and set up some entertaining matches with RVD then it might pick up.

Jaton 01-17-2006 11:11 AM

Where's Alienoid with his RR plot?

Isn't that older than 6 weeks?

What are you on about?

Kane Knight 01-17-2006 11:23 AM

Well, that feud goes back too ffar for them to use it. It requires the WWE <s>writers</s> fans have an attention span of over 6 weeks.

Londoner 01-17-2006 11:32 AM

Yeah but Carlito did a promo on Raw last night and reminded us of it(when he spat the apple in RVD's face) then Kane came out for some reason and chokeslammed him outside the ring.

Kane Knight 01-17-2006 11:41 AM

Perfect. We're gonna see MAsters&Carlito vs Kane and RVD.

Corndad 01-17-2006 12:54 PM

Id love to see RVD win, but I see Carlito eliminating him during RR setting up a WM match

because he was talking about winning the Rumble, and Kane "qualified" last week and said there would be 29 victims.

HHH did I think, after the quad injury.

Triple H returned at a RAW, not the Rumble.

TL wasn't paying too much attention, I guess. :-\

Oh wait, you're in the UK, right? Never mind.

I think he had a match before the Rumble.

More than likely, RVD will be #30 or #29, I'd say.

Xero 01-17-2006 06:08 PM

Even if RVD doesn't win, I'd like to see someone take it from the number 30 spot this year. I'd say it's about time that someone comes in fresh and just clears house.

Okay, lets get this straight. Triple H returned on the last RAW before the Royal Rumble. Triple H got into an arguement with Angle, and then pedigree'd him. Triple H's first match back from injury was in the Royal Rumble Match.

Triple H returned on the first RAW of 2001, the 7th. The Rumble wasn't until the 21st.

You're right though, he didn't wrestle until the Rumble.

YES! They always do the same bullshit build-up for the rumble! Who's gonna get the coveted number 30 spot? Which no one has ever won from! Imagine the heat you get on someone like Orton if he came in last and won by eliminating someone that had been in for like 45mins! Then go on to say he "defeated" 30 of the WWE's best!

Rammsteinmad 01-17-2006 07:11 PM

If they didn't advertise RVD coming back, and he came in from nowhere and won the thing...

Mr. Nerfect 01-17-2006 08:48 PM

I can see RVD winning, I really can. Kurt Angle vs. RVD and Edge vs. RVD are both matches that have fan interest, with neither being teased more than the other. It would actually breathe interesting into the "where's the RR winner going to go" storyline.

If Triple H or Randy Orton is going to win it this year (more than likely), I hope it is from the #30 position. Both guys are heels, so there is nothing satisfying about them surviving through the lower ranks to win, so let them come in last and take it. If you're going to have a heel win the thing, let them win it in a heelish manner.

Fox 01-17-2006 10:25 PM

Rob Van Dam is not seen by Vince McMahon as a main eventer - he wasn't one before he left, and he won't be one now that he's back.

Don't jump down my throat either. I'm as big a fan of RVD as the rest of you, and I'd love to see him win the Rumble and take the World Title from either brand, but I'm afraid it won't happen.

lol... i'm never going to correct anyone again

Volare 01-18-2006 08:13 AM

RVD will eliminate Carlito...Carlito runs back in and screws RVD out of the rumble-therefore a match at WM22 between RVD and carlito

I actually had the sound down at that point, was watching it while falling asleep.Didn't hear what Carlito said.

Kane Knight 01-18-2006 09:39 AM

Carlito did say nobody could eliminate him. Kane then shows up, tosses him over the ropes, then goes backstage to "fool around" with the Big Show while cutting himself.

I suspect next week, Carlito will say the same thing, only to have Big Show come out.

And the week after, only to have Shawn Michaels come out.

And the Week after, only to have Doink come out.

And the week after, only to have Spike Dudley come out.

Kane Knight 01-18-2006 09:40 AM

(I know there's not five weeks before the Rumble, but the joke only worked with a progression from big to sad...)

The CyNick 01-18-2006 08:15 PM

If RVD wins the Rumble I will personally kiss Vince....Pat Patterson's ass.

John la Rock 01-18-2006 10:27 PM

lol Cynick

i hope he wins but i'm about 99 % positive he won't

Favre4Ever 01-19-2006 05:08 AM

I'd enjoy Edge vs. RVD at WM 22.

I'm not too sure about RVD and HHH though. The styles are so different, i'm not too sure how good of a match would come out of it.

Regardless, after all the time RVD has been gone, I think a main event boost is just what he needs. Putting RVD into the title scene would make it WAY more interesting.
