Awesome Heel Moments

There are no great faces without great heels, and great heels come from great heel moments. So here's one of my favorites -

It was Wrestling Challenge or Superstars in the late 80's. The Million Dollar Man would come out each week, you'll recall, and challenge the audience to do something for money because he knew that "everyone had a price."

Well, this particular week he comes out with the same challenge to the audience. He and Virgil see a kid in the crowd and invite him up. This kid could't have been more than 6 or 7 years old. So, he goes up to podium where Dibiase is and the Million Dollar Man issues this challenge to the kid: "If you can dribble this basketball 10 times in a row...I will give you this $100 bill." So the kid is all entusiastic and the crowd is all behind this innocent little boy. The kid starts dribbling...1..2..3....the crowd gets behind the kid...4..5..6....the crowd counts down the last few bounces....7..8...he's gonna do it....9...and before the ball hits the ground the final time, Dibiase sticks his foot out and kicks the ball, thus making the kid fail the challenge.

But, what made it worse is that after the kid realized what had happened, his face looked as if he watched his puppy die a slow painful death. That was the most heat I had heard from a WWF crowd up to that moment. It was classic!

What are your favorite heel moments over the last 20 years?

When Jake Roberts tied Randy Savage in the ropes and then had his snake bite Randy on the arm... You wanna talk about a crowd getting into the act? There were people freakin' crying at that!!!

GOOD ONE! :y:

Remember when Ravishing Rick Rude was talking with Cheryl Roberts in the crowd? Rude was saying how much she wanted him and then she slapped him across the face and then he grabbed her arm and Roberts came to the rescue?

Or Ken Patera, Big John Studd and Bobby Heenan knocking out Andre The Giant during a tag team match and cutting off Andre's long hair that he had for so many years? I'll never forget watching that on WWF SuperStars back in 1985 and everybody was in shock that these 3 men could do such a rotten thing. Patera carried Andre's hair in a little bag they had.

Steve Austin in Canada attacking Stu Hart

The difference between John Cena & The Rock is that The Rock controsl the situation with the fans. His promo in Toronto proved it. He started abusing the crowd, and all they could do is boo, but it didn't matter, because Rock was completely shitting over them. When Cena gets booed, he just stands there looking on like some kind of retard. Granted, the WWE probably instructed him not to react, but it shows an inverse between them.

Anyway, The Rock's promo in Toronto was a great heel moment, because transcended just getting booed because the crowd didn't like what he was saying, but he was being booed as a defense of this city. If they didn't boo, Toronto would look pathetic, if they did, they still looked pathetic.

Y3J 01-18-2006 07:22 PM

How dare you mention The Rock and. Cena in the same sentence.

Bad Company 01-18-2006 08:06 PM

Has red hot scott been reading Ted Dibiase's book? :D

Evolution 01-18-2006 08:17 PM

When Austin broke up the ankle lock on Booker T, gave Angle a Stunner and cost Team WWF the Inaugrual Brawl at InVasion.

Damn it feels good typing WWF again.

I was young when it happened, so it seemed really evil/kinda scary to me at the time: When Papa Shango made The Ultimate Warrior sick and vomit.

Also when Yokozuna busted Crush's chest with like 4 Banzai Drops.

I remember that. It looked like pea soup. I was at the show where the Warrior broke Shango's curse. That was awesome.

Somebody posted something about this recently on the q&a boards: When Mr. Perfect smashed Hogan's title because he wouldn't give him a shot at it. I gave me goosebumps watching it when I was about 8. :D

RGWhat316 01-18-2006 10:24 PM

I think a pretty good one was back in '03 in a steel cage match with Lesnar and Vince with Angle as a ref. Lesnar and Angle had the friendly rivalry, but finally Lesnar turned heel and destroyed Kurt in the cage.

MDM said in his book that the kid was legit crying because he thought he wasnt going to get any money, so they took him backstage and gave him 500 bucks.

HBK's turn on Hogan.

Maybe I'm a bit partial because i was there...

JH 01-18-2006 10:59 PM

one of my favorite heel moments was when the LOD turned on Dusty and drove the spike into his eye
very unexpected heel turn and the fans were in shock

i busted out laughing

Nark Order 01-18-2006 10:59 PM

I like all the 'lol' heel moments the best though.

Like when Repoman stole that kid's bike because his dad owed him money.

Also, the Doink vs Crush 'mirror trick' was hilarious and heel all at once.

best promo ever :y:

and i was there live. next to Rock/Hogan at X8 i've never seen a crowd be so vocal. we booed him to death cause he made us look like fools. The crowd completely died after that segment because Rock is such an amazing entertainer

John la Rock 01-18-2006 11:23 PM

also HBK's promo in Montreal this past year

Savio 01-18-2006 11:31 PM

Hassan prays to allah then Terrorists behead the undetaker.

FourFifty 01-18-2006 11:32 PM

Ya know what I still love watching?

The moment The Rockers broke up. That still makes me laugh.
My twin brother and I both LOVED The Rockers. I always knew Shawn carried the team, while my bro thought Marty did it. This is before I knew wrestling was "fake" (God, I hate typing that word)

I've been a mark for HBK since.

John la Rock 01-18-2006 11:32 PM

how how can i forget?

Hulk Hogan turning heel at Bash at the Beach and forming the NWO with Hall and Nash

BobBitchen 01-19-2006 12:29 AM

nwo taking over the Broadcast location on wcw

XL 01-19-2006 12:38 AM

I think turns always made the best heel the moments!

How about this one...Tatanka joining the Million Dollar Corporation after accusing Luger of selling out for months!

Or The Rock aligning himself with the McMahons after winning the title "against all odds" at Survivor Series 98!

James Steele 01-19-2006 12:45 AM

WrestleMania X-Seven: Stone Cold sells his soul for the WWF Championship.

John la Rock 01-19-2006 12:46 AM

also Shane McMahon's heel turn screwing Austin out of the title at Survivor Series 1998. 1, 2...... FUCK YOU AUSTIN

that cought me completely off guard. what an amazing twist

when HHH and HBK came out wearing DX shirts two or three years ago....and then HHH getting ready to do the DX suck it promo and instead kicking and pedigreeing shawn

Disturbed316 01-19-2006 11:07 AM

Hogan's Bash turn is the greatest of all time.

Morgan 01-19-2006 11:14 AM

The SCM to Hogan- I loved how the entire crowd just went silent for a second.
Pretty much everything Eddie did as a heel last year.

John la Rock 01-19-2006 02:23 PM

I'm your papi Dominic!

Rammsteinmad 01-19-2006 04:51 PM

Goldberg's heel turn. :shifty:

Russenmafia 01-19-2006 06:57 PM

After the UK only PPV One Night Only when HBK beat the Bulldog. After winning the European title HBK, Chyna and HHH got pelted with so much debris it was unreal.

Chavo Classic 01-19-2006 07:55 PM

When Owen Hart turned heel around '94 he'd bring his Hitman glasses to the ring, walk over to some kid on front row and go as if he were going to hand them over... then tear them up and stomp them into the ground.
Lol

Making kids cry has got to be the heel's best weapon

I think Bulldogs heel turn in the summer of 95 on was shocking and unexpected as he was still teaming with Luger (who hadnt left yet) The main event on RAW was going to be the Allied Powers vs M.O.M. Well Diesel and Mabel was going to meet in Summerslam 95 for the title :nono: And Bulldog said he needed a partner because Lex had problems at the airport and Diesel accepted well during the match the Bulldog attacked Diesel and left with M.O.M and Jim Cornette.

John la Rock 01-20-2006 04:12 AM
