Setting up forums/message boards
FAO Triple A, the mods and anyone else...
Ok, the long and short of it is that I'd like to know what procedure to follow in order to set up an internet forum/message board. It's not going to be anything to rival TPWW (in fact, not a wrestling forum at all) but just something I've been thinking about for the last few weeks to do with my job. Something real basic will do, which will hopefully grow as interest and members increases. Where do I start? Will it cost to set up? What kind of advice can you guys give? I'd love to know the basics and should you guys have any links to people who might know if you could pass their details onto me. Please let me know. Any help or contribution would be appreciated. |

ifr you dont want to pay much and have it nice and simple, ezboards is good, Vb and others like it, you have to buy webspace and shit, costs loads

Depends if you want to look and seem professional or just want to fuck around.
If you want to at least seem professional, you'll need to buy webspace and either buy a vB license (although I wouldn't recommend it unless you're serious) or use a free one, like phpbb. You could always upgrade to vB later, as most self-hosted forum scripts are transferable to vB. One downside is that you need to know a little PHP if you want to make customized themes. The other way is to use ezBoard or Proboards. I cringe at everyone of those, but I'm going to be a professional web designer hopefully and know how a site should/could look. |
