Covers that are quite different from the original song

I was listening to Sun Kil Moon's cover of Modest Mouse's "Ocean Breathes Salty". I think I actually like it better than the original for it's acoustic nature.

So throw out some other radically different covers, whether they're better or worse than the original.

El Vaquero de Infierno 01-23-2006 04:53 AM

Rasputina's cover of Pink Floyd's "Wish you were here."

Can't say I've heard the original, but Rasputina's version is hot. Cellos = Hotness

Maplebee's covers of Doris Day's "Perhaps Perhaps."

Have to say once again I've never heard the original, but Maplebee's version is bonkers.

El Vaquero de Infierno 01-23-2006 04:55 AM

Oh, and Rasputina made a song out of the "This Little Piggy" nursery rhyme, which to is bonkers.

Quirky women = Hotness

What Would Kevin Do? 01-23-2006 05:36 PM

Just bought a fucking Rasputina CD off of pretty much what little I could find out about them after reading your post.

Awesome shit.

Cash's version is good, but I'll always prefer the original.

Johnny Cash's cover of Hurt > Anything NIN has put out, give or take 5 songs, not including Hurt.

That too

The Gooch 01-24-2006 08:31 PM

Rammstein's version of Stripped by Depeche Mode is pretty fucked. I like both versions.

Blitz 01-24-2006 09:33 PM

That's a cover? I had no idea...

You haven't heard Pink Floyd's version of "Wish You Were Here"?
Hang your head in shame!!! :nono:

Anyways, Deadstar Assembly and Zeromancer both have great covers of "Send Me An Angel"

Blitz 01-25-2006 11:22 AM

I love Zeromancer and DSA.

Cool

Which album?

"How we quit the forest," is the best album, but that is out of print and expensive if you can find it.

Graveworm - Losing My Religion

Kane Knight 01-27-2006 09:42 AM

Bowie's covers in general are rather different (Not really his Pin-Ups stuff), specifically Cactus (The Pixies) and Pablo Picasso (The Modern Lovers) though.

Mr. Monday Morning 01-27-2006 05:38 PM

Michael Hutchence's cover of The Passenger by Iggy Pop. Far better than the original IMHO.

Sixpence None the Richer did a shockingly poor cover of Crowded House - Don't Dream it's Over :(

I felt like throwing my radio in a shredder.

King Jericho 01-28-2006 09:44 AM

Sepultura - Orgasmatron :shifty:

King Jericho 01-28-2006 09:44 AM

Motorhead cover btw.

Radical Recital, as that's the only one easily found apparently. I'm working on getting 'How we quit the Forest." But I'm cheap and poor, so it's a bit of a pain.

Also bought a CD by Dresden Dolls. Good shit right there.

New album is supposed to come out in April.

I still need to get their "A for Accident" live album. :(

Marilyn Manson - Tainted Love

Horrible, horrible cover.

Mr. Monday Morning 01-30-2006 02:07 PM

I forgot A Perfect Circle's covers album. There's a bunch of songs on there but the covers of Imagine by John Lennon and What's Goin On by Marvin Gaye are pretty sweet (though some people will consider them blasphemy, no doubt)

Having said that I'm surprised someone like Lacuna Coil hasn't done a cover of Kiss From A Rose yet.

Marilyn Manson-Sweet Dreams
