HHH and HBK not happy about rumble match

www.prowrestlingscoops.com

The word going around the locker-room backstage at the Royal Rumble was that Shawn Michaels and HHH didn’t like their match as much as the bout that they had on Raw a few weeks ago. Some people have told us that the two would have liked to have had more time for the match but because of the length of the Rumble itself, matches were cut short.

The Royal Rumble ended up being a sellout and cleared more than a million dollars at the gate.

Oh BOO HOO HOO

yeah word, The Knight is right, Oh BOO HOO HOO.

What were your thoughts on the match?

blake639raw 01-29-2004 12:36 PM

I thought it was pretty good, bar the ending. The ending killed it. Even if there was a winner, I still think their Raw match was better. It seemed a little rushed. Not as much as the other matches, but still if they would have been given more time, it would have been classic.

I take this from the review i posted earlier on this forum

Triple H © versus Shawn Michaels - Last Man Standing Match for the World Heavyweight Championship

Now, over the next couple of weeks you’re going to hear a few descriptions of this match. ‘Epic Battle’ will be popular. ’Gave it there all’ will be another. I’m sure some will even mention it as a ‘Royal Rumble classic’. Don’t be fooled by it all… this was average.

Of course there was going to be blood everywhere - it‘s what Triple H and HBK do best. Of course both men were going to sell like they’ve never sold before - they’re bosom buddies. And of course the crowd were going to be well into it - it was the only match not including Sparky Plugg that lasted over five minutes.

I could have described this match before I’d even seen it, it was that typical, and the only surprise came with the finish. And boy did that rattle my cage. Both men were counted down for ten, the match was a draw, and Triple H retained his belt. I paid £15 for this. Well, they can go and suck my big, fat, hairy, sweaty, balls if they think I’m falling for that trick again.

Winner: Draw (???) Triple H retains the belt 5/10

boo hoo. at least the event sold out

I wouldn't be happy about it either. It was predictable and the ending blew.

They were only mad because it wasn't as good as the Raw match that they had a couple of weeks ago. Other than the ending I thought that it was actually a pretty good match

I thought the match was strong, but as I predicted the LMS gimmick hurt the match. There were really no near falls that the crowd could get into, and as a result the match suffered. Also, as has been mentioned the finish really hurt the match as well.

But i dont think a lack of time had anything to do with the match failing to live up to the RAW match between the two.

yeah they should have gotten more time. Lets cut Rey and Noble down to 3 minutes, and make the Rumble only half an hour.

Head 01-29-2004 01:59 PM

I think they did a good job given the amount of time they had. The two just mesh well.

As for the ending, you can't really put the blame on them for the booking decision (well maybe you can, but that's another issue). I dunno though, I really wasn't too disappointed by it, even though I kinda suspected it might happen.

Nah, they only have the Rumble once a year, keep it an hour.

30 guys in 30 minutes would be rushed.

JeremyTB29 01-29-2004 04:08 PM

Why do PPV's have to have a time limit anyways?.Book the matches as if you had no time limit. If it last 3 1/2 hours so be it.I also think having every PPV last about 2 hourts and 45 minutes makes the main event alittle predictable because you pretty know what time the finish is going to take place.

Head 01-29-2004 04:09 PM

Cause making the PPV longer costs more money.

Corkscrewed 01-29-2004 05:45 PM

Significantly more?

It's a good thing their RR match didn't top their RAW match, or else Vince would be using that as an even more anal dream match "everyone should put on every day on every show."

ColdwaVer 01-29-2004 08:00 PM

See the thing is, Last Man Standing matches are boring. Any time you have one, you're guaranteed an undue amount of time with one guy standing over the other one for up to 20 seconds while the ref tries to count ten, and you know most of those counts are going to be 8 or 9.

dude i was joking

Ya, I think the LMS gimmick prevented them from having the same type of match they did on RAW. It requires a different style, mainly just trying to bloody your opponent and knock him out, not wear him down and pin him. I didn't see the match, but I had a feeling it wouldn't be as good as the RAW one.
