Observer Notes - Mania Matches, the attempted Celebrity tie-in (Spolier warning)

The top five Mania matches planned are:

Cena Vs. HHH
Angle Vs. Orton
Vince Vs. Shawn
Edge Vs. Mick Foley
Undertaker Vs. Mark Henry

The big celebrity that WWE was trying to bring in that Meltzer was talking about was A.J. Pierzynski, as they wanted to do an angle to build Mania up for the Chicago market, and it'd be a "slap to TNA". It appears, however, to have fallen through.

In other Mania related notes - WWE tried with every big name possible for them to come in to Mania, but Bret doesn't want to do an angle based off Montreal, Austin and WWE aren't on great terms presently due to what happened in late October/early November last year, Rock doesn't appear to have interest in the show right now in any form, and Hulk Hogan wasn't happy with the opponents proposed to him. Meltzer thoerizes that things could change there however, as Hogan will need some publicity to help give his show momentum, as it goes into the second series.

Also, it doesn't appear that there are any set in stone plans for what Mysterio will be doing at Mania.

HBK/Vince will have great buildup and a fun match

Orton has done a tremendous job with his (or Booker's) feud with Benoit. He pulled out some really great matches and Orton/Angle should be a classic if Orton vs Benoit and the fact that Angle can make anyone look good (wrestling) are any indication.

Orton just isn't a big deal at the minute though (thanks majorly to his crappy feud with the Undertaker), and Angle Vs. Orton doesn't scream WrestleMania, even if the match would be awesome.

This match with Angle will make or break Orton.

I'm an Orton mark, but I have to admit Angle/Rey would be the better match.

Edge/Foley: Where'd that come from? They'll have to get him involved quickly to get build on that. Added to the fact Foley has been gone from the ring awhile, and you can easily see how that'd be a flop.

Taker/Henry: Could possibly be Taker's worst Mania opponent in history....

Vince/Shawn: A good possibility

Angle/Orton: Should be good;

HHH/Cena: # 11 for "The Lame"

There had better be a Carlito V. Rob Van Dam match at Wrestle Mania and given 20 minutes to shine.

Don't know what to think about the HHH-Cena match, we'll probably see HHH walk away with the title and see it around his waists for another year.

Angle-Orton should be pretty good, kinda hoping that they'll throw Benoit in to the title picture 2, but thats just plain old dreaming. :$

Edge-Foley should be a nice match 2.

HBK-Vince...well i'm just hoping it won't be a bent over and take it up the ... match for HBK.

They're set to wrestle on Raw tomorrow - we're more likely to see a Shelton Vs. RVD feud over the IC Title rolling in to Mania, by the looks of things.

Even so, Rob Van Dam had better have a one on one match and at least 15 minutes in the ring at Wrestle Mania.

What happened with Jose Canseco? ESPN reported that he was going to be at WM 22.
