2006 Winter Olympics

Let the games begin!

Opening ceremonies were today

Apart from the Hockey, I can't say I'm too 'in' to the games. Anyone got something they're looking forward to?

Loose Cannon 02-10-2006 11:17 PM

only hockey. when does that start?

OssMan 02-10-2006 11:20 PM

nah freestyle skiing "aerials" the best even at winter olympics

Zen v.W.o. 02-10-2006 11:21 PM

I think I like the winter olympics better then the summer. It has Hockey, and also other sports Canada is good at. Summer just has the sprints really.

Hockey I think starts on Monday or tuesday. The players for men arent there until sunday anyways.

Loose Cannon 02-10-2006 11:28 PM

I remember that one year Belarus upset Sweden. That was the greatest hockey game ever for me. I've never been more into a game then that one.

Gertner 02-10-2006 11:32 PM

hockey starts wednesday i believe. btw Czechs are gonna win the gold in hockey

i like the winter olympics better than the summer

Curling

BCWWF 02-11-2006 03:03 AM

I am pretty excited. Bode Miller is the man.

Snowboarding sucks though.

D Mac 02-11-2006 05:54 AM

Men's short program figure skating is the shit.

Linkbowler 02-11-2006 12:06 PM

USA-Switzerland Women's hockey on right now.

D Mac 02-11-2006 04:37 PM

I wonder how women's hockey players are in bed?

Is he the guy that's always getting in trouble for no-showing and saying things people deem offensive?

BCWWF 02-11-2006 08:26 PM

I don't know if he no-shows, but he got in trouble for saying that he raced while hung over once. He is the man though, crazy ski bum. He is crazy on the slopes, he goes too fast though so he falls sometimes.

Loose Cannon 02-11-2006 08:29 PM

are you guys watching this fucking luge? Holy shit

Loose Cannon 02-11-2006 08:30 PM

anytime I see a sport involving a sled and an ice hill, I think of Cool Runnings

Yeah that's the guy I was thinking of. He's a snowboarder? I thought he was a skier

YOUR Hero 02-11-2006 10:50 PM

Just watched Canada win a Gold medal in mogul skiing, or something to that effect.

GO CANADA!

Luge and bobsled fall into the same category as NASCAR: High-speed and very dangerous, yet still boring as batshit. It's a bad combination.

BCWWF 02-12-2006 11:23 AM

Hero, sorry about that, my comment that I hate snowboard halfpipe was supposed to be seperate.

The snowboard halfpipe is seriously so stupid though. They don't do anything but spin in "different holds." At least skateboarding they can move fast and flip their boards too. That is cool, snowboarding isn't.

YOUR Hero 02-12-2006 02:19 PM

Bode Miller didn't medal in the Downhill skiing today... and was spotted out drinking the night before. LOL, way to go.

Kwan dropped out of the Olympics I read

YOUR Hero 02-12-2006 03:21 PM

Holy crap. That Appollo Ono guy from the speed skating event, just screwed himself. He's was in second place in the qualifying round, which is good enough to qualify for the finals. Anyway, he got gredy and tried to pass the other skater and he lost his balance and ended up finishing 4th.

toxic rooster 02-12-2006 04:56 PM

LOL, is that the same Oh No from the Steven Bradbury thing last time?

YOUR Hero 02-12-2006 05:32 PM

not sure what that means, Gooner

toxic rooster 02-13-2006 03:07 AM

Steven Bradbury, Australia's first ever winter olympics gold medallist. He was in the final of some speed skating thing and was coming last in the final turn when all the other skaters took each other out and he was so far back he didn't get caught up in it, stayed up and won the race.

I remember there being some guy named Ono ("Oh No!") in that race who was the raging favourite too

toxic rooster 02-13-2006 03:11 AM

http://www.elitesports.com.au/new/at...mages/011a.jpgSpeed skater Steven Bradbury created history in Salt Lake City when he became the first Australian to win a Winter Olympic Gold Medal.
His remarkable and unlikely victory was achieved after a spectacular final-lap spill took out his four rivals. Bradbury threw his arms up in disbelief and smiled as he crossed the finish line.
The four-time Olympian hails from sun-drenched Brisbane, and followed his father into the sport. He was a member of the 5000m relay team that won Bronze in Lillehammer - Australia's first Olympic medal.
He has helped finance his skating career through his partnership in Revolutionary Boot Company - manufacturers of speed skating boots. Among his clients is Apollo Anton Ohno, ironically the favourite for the race Bradbury won.
His gold medal win was not entirely as fortuitous as many would believe. Bradbury knew his limitations and also the unpredictable nature of short track racing.
Half the battle is staying on your blades, and Bradbury did just that, right when it really counted.
Dubbed "the luckiest gold medallist", Bradbury won fans the world over for the honesty and humility he showed after the win.
He saw his victory as reward not for one race, but for a decade of hard slog that has included more than his share of misfortune.
In Norway, 1994, a race accident led to him being impaled on a skate and creating a cut so extensive he lost 4 litres of blood and required 111 stitches. He was extremely lucky to survive.
A training mishap in 2000 broke his neck and forced him to spend six weeks in a halo brace.
Steven Bradbury again fought his way back, and two years later that neck was in the headlines again - only this time it was supporting an Olympic Gold Medal.

Supreme Olajuwon 02-13-2006 03:36 AM

The Czechs might win gold in hockey just because David Vyborny is their captain.

YOUR Hero 02-13-2006 09:56 AM

Gooner, yes, I remember that race now. This Ono dude is turning out to be a big bust. Crumbling under the pressure or something. I'm sure he'll win some medals in other events, but damn, he sure seems to blow it alot.

toxic rooster 02-13-2006 06:17 PM

Apollo Anton OH NO

D Mac 02-14-2006 01:46 AM

He will be back. Shit happens.

CNM 02-14-2006 02:14 AM

I saw Ohno in a race last night. Looked like he half-assed it for most of the laps and then just turned it on really late. WTF is up with that

D Mac 02-16-2006 05:25 AM

http://www.nbcolympics.com/medals/1599001/detail.html

Medal count so far.

JT1 02-17-2006 08:40 AM

it's all about the brits. not only are we the bomb at curling(surely the most dull sport ever?) but we got our 1st medal of the games yesterday in the skeleton bob - sliding down a mile of ice at 80mph headfirst on a tray:lol:

Zen v.W.o. 02-17-2006 03:27 PM

2 more medals for Canada today, puts us in a 3 way tie for second.

btw, Swedes upset the yanks in womens hockey. Now we cant run up the score on them.:(

D Mac 02-17-2006 03:45 PM

USA still has the most golds.

YOUR Hero 02-17-2006 11:38 PM

It seems to me the USA is having a lot of issues in these olympics.

McDoogle 02-17-2006 11:45 PM

They wouldn't be American if they wouldn't complain.

D Mac 02-18-2006 01:10 AM

I don't follow.
