WTF? Guitar Hero

This has to be like the hardest game ever to get a copy of. Nobody around here seems to have it. Fucking ridiculouus.

Anyway, any of you played it or what?

HeartBreakMan2k 02-12-2006 09:37 PM

I have it, and actually the EB I manage has like 3 sets. It is hawt shit for the record?

Blitz 02-12-2006 10:02 PM

I've been looking for it too. Amplitude is one of my favourite games.

Silent 02-13-2006 03:14 AM

The game has exploded in popularity since word started to spread. I got it pretty soon after it came out when they had tons of copies, now all of my friends are also having trouble getting it.

But, to answer your question, it is an awesome game and should not be missed. The soundtrack is pretty decent, some good songs on there, but missing some obvious ones.

Kris P Lettus 02-13-2006 03:17 AM

What is this??

Silent 02-13-2006 03:27 AM

http://www.guitarherogame.com/

It's basically one of those rhythm games, like Dance Dance Revolution, but you play the guitar. It's got 5 buttons on the frets, and you basically play along. They have 30 licensed tracks (re-done by their music team,) and 30 tracks by lesser-known bands, mostly their friends or the bands of people on the game's team.

It seems kind of lame when you first look at it, but once you get good at the game and start playing the more difficult songs (especially on Expert mode) it really does feel pretty realistic to playing the guitar.

Pretty sweet game, worth a look at the very least. I think a lot of Best Buys have the game on display still.

TheNamelessOne 02-13-2006 03:52 AM

Yeah I want this.

But the godamn publishers won't release it in Europe.

It's coming out here in April-ish last time I read about it.
Only limited stocks though or something because they can't make enough.

Extreme Angle 02-13-2006 11:25 AM

can you try and play anything on there?

Kane Knight 02-13-2006 11:28 AM

Din is on the soundtrack. They're relatives of one of the hottest tickets in Boston in the 90s, Tribe.

Disturbed316 02-13-2006 01:49 PM

Gameplay have it down as a April 6th for the release. Dunno if that's 100% or not, it fucking better be though.

FakeLaser 02-16-2006 10:55 PM

I have it, it is pretty sweet.

Funky Fly 02-17-2006 02:11 AM

Jealousyyyyyyyy :'(

SuperSlim 02-18-2006 11:45 AM

My friend has the game. So far I've managed to graduate from easy mode to normal mode. Not good enough for the expert mode yet.

Funky Fly 03-26-2006 03:52 AM

Bumposity.

So I've been playing this for a good 2 weeks now. FUCKING AWESOME.

I'm pretty much a guitar noob, but I think I'm getting the hang of it pretty quickly. For those of you who have played it (especially the harder levels), how close would you say this comes to the real thing?

Silent 03-26-2006 01:53 PM

The "realism" only goes so far since the 5 buttons/chords you are hitting are in the same place on the guitar. But, when you play some of those last songs on Expert, like "Bark at the Moon" and "Cowboys from Hell", you basically have to hit every note.

I guess what I'm saying is you won't walk away from the game and be able to play the real guitar, but if you already do, it might improve your technique.

Disturbed316 03-26-2006 02:36 PM

12 days....:'(

Well I wasn't expecting to be able to play guitar afterwards, just wanted a comparison. :D

el fregadero 03-26-2006 09:43 PM

Wicked addictive. I played a copy of it at Best Buy last night and got hooked.

Requiem 03-26-2006 09:47 PM

Me, El Freg, and DS just played this for a few hours straight. Man, it's addicting as hell.. we're only doing medium difficulty stuff, but since we've barely played it it can be pretty hard at some points.

I didn't find much of a comparison at all, myself. Then again, when I played it, I was trying it from the perspective of DDR without all the exercise. ;)

My friend commented on how fast I was losing, even though I can play a passable geetar.

Funky Fly 03-28-2006 03:27 AM

That blue fret button is so hard to reach sometimes. I always end up either over extending or underextending my pinky.

Funky Fly 03-28-2006 03:27 AM

Also, do you get the feeling that the next one with have an actual story mode, instead of playing songs for a measly bit of cash.

Try playing an edim/C. Your puny world will be rocked by real guitar work. :p

Funky Fly 03-28-2006 07:04 PM

I'm well aware of that. What with using the whole length of the neck and strings instead of buttons and all.

Maybe I'll take up the keytar.

el fregadero 03-28-2006 07:56 PM

Wait until you start fucking around with the orange one, Funky.

Nervous Ferret 03-28-2006 08:00 PM

It's more the way your hanbds have to stretch for certain chords. Don't mind me, I'm a cripple. And bitter.

I need to get me this game.

Requiem 03-31-2006 09:48 PM

I wish there were more songs. I mean, I enjoy the ones that are there, but I just wish there were more. WHEN IS GH 2 COMING OUT?

Disturbed316 04-01-2006 02:49 PM

Dunno when the sequel hits.

They have a lot of good songs, but I remember reading on gamespot that a bunch of people they were to contact for song licensing thought they were being pranked, so they couldn't get songs like Stairway to Heaven or anything by Van Halen.

Also, REJOICE! Caveman, rejoice.

el fregadero 04-01-2006 08:51 PM

That 'Even Rats' song is pretty sweet, tbh.

Ditto!

Been playing Frequency and Amplitude again this week.

Disturbed316 04-04-2006 05:15 PM

Frequency ruled. I think I managed to get up to the last lot of songs before I became fed up of sucking at it so much :'(

Never got round to getting Amplitude, was it any good?

Jonster 04-04-2006 06:36 PM

I managed to do all of Frequency, it felt like such an achievement, those later levels really made you work. I think I punched the air after finishing it.

Amplitude is more polished, and I prefer it (more fair scoring wise for a start), but the fact the level doesn't loop round like in Frequency annoys me (as in it runs down a road, and to go from far right to far left you have to press left 5 times and you can't see what the note is. It's impossible in that situation).
All the songs are available from the Normal level up, and there's an easy mode for Grandma's.
