Kane errors

I haven't been with WWE for a while... I'm a little past my second year, but I'm curious about Kane. Everyone keeps making fun of the fact that his character/storylines are full of continuity errors. If possible, would you guys share what some of these continuity errors are? Fill my curiosity please.

Lord-Of-Darkness 03-18-2006 06:38 AM

Here's an easy one. When he first entered the company with his 'father' Paul Bearer to get at Taker, we learn that Taker thought he was dead. But in fact Kane has been living in the basement of Bearers house, never seeing daylight.
In 2002, the Katie Vick angle popped up, and we learn that Kane was driving her home from a party while drunk, and had an accident that killed her when he ws younger...

Xero 03-18-2006 09:57 AM

The mask and hair coming off. His mask had come off before, but his hair always stayed on. When he took off the mask, it was attached to the mask.

Also, when he first took the mask off, he had black marks all over his face to indicate that he was horribly scarred (as his story went). But the next week we find out that he's actually "scarred on the inside", even though we saw the black marks when he first took off the mask.

There are others...

Y3J 03-18-2006 03:54 PM

He used to not suck, but now he sucks. What's up with that?

King Jericho 03-18-2006 04:00 PM

Nah, Kane minus the mask is actually pretty good in my opinion, Kane plus the mask, was always pretty bad.

Y3J 03-18-2006 04:06 PM

I loved masked Kane. At least he was unique, and I used to mark out for him. Now he's just a generic big guy (and not even as big as he used to be).

The Genius 03-19-2006 03:35 AM

does he still use the voice box to speak? :shifty:

Kane Knight 03-20-2006 12:05 AM

I don't buy the whole "black marks mean Kane was supposed to be scarred" shit.

Yeah, I wasn't all that big on Kane until they changed him. Continuity be damned, it would have been awesome if he stayed the serial killer type instead of having his character jobbed to oblivion.

Indifferent Clox 03-20-2006 12:08 AM

what was up with the hair thing though? that doesn't even make since.. I wanna see him with hair and no mask.. next time he takes a break.. he should come back with the hair.. and maybe a beard.. and pose as taker.. or soemthing fucking cool like that

Kane always wore some black face paint around his eyes when he wore the mask. The black marks when he took his mask off was just the paint smudged. I don't think it was meant to be scars.

There was MUCH more there than should have been. It made it look like "burns", which is what I would imagine they were going for.

You can't tell me that was smudged all over his head and face from his eye area.

Hmm... Yeah I guess. It's been a while since I've seen him right after he took the mask off.

Corkscrewed 03-20-2006 05:36 AM

See, I think that look woulda been badass if they stuck with it. If Boogieman can wrestle in HIS makeup, then surely Kane could have done with black smudges and really bad hair...

XL 03-20-2006 11:49 AM

I think the problem with the singed face was that they couldn't keep it the same each week (although why a little thing like continuity should even figure into the ideas of WWE) and of course it could smudge during matches.

and Corky, it's not as if Boogeyman actually wrestles per se.

The Mask 03-20-2006 12:48 PM

yeah but who would actually want to go about day to day life avec hair like that

Xero 03-20-2006 02:30 PM

Remember when they actually had red marks on his head for a few weeks after that? What was up with that?

I don't buy it as burns.

Have you ever worn makeup? That shit can get all over your face even without a mask rubbing it around.

BigDaddyCool 03-21-2006 02:22 AM

Also, another one of the plot holes is that he couldn't speak and he needed a voice box deally, but now he can speak just fine, all without going through major vocal cord reconstructive surgery.

Also there is the whole on again off again brotherly relationship between him and Taker with no really warning or explination of why they like each other one day and hate each other the next.

Then there was that whole period where Undertaker was the Bikertaker/American Badass. That became a plot hole for Kane being that they are suppose to be brothers and all.

What does Taker becoming the American Badass have to do with him being Kane's brother? They tagged as the Brothers of Destruction...

I don't buy it as all makeup/mascara. Sure, some of it WAS from his eyes, but it looks like there is actually some on his head. That may actually be his half-cut hair, but I would buy that as burns (in the WWE).

I thought KK went over this with everyone already......

What's with the half cut hair?

As the story goes (the only thing they kept consistent), Kane really WAS burned, but it only effects his hair growth, as I guess he was burned on his head. It doesn't really make sense as they say he was "emotionally scarred" and yet he really WAS in a fire that didn't physically scar him, just stopped his hair growth in the front of his head.

When he took off the mask he took of a wig with it.

It may have physically scarred him. Over deacdes scarring can go away, but when you destroy hair, that's pretty much it.

He didn't even have to be burned that bad for his hair to have been affected, and enough damage to be done that he was scarred psychologically as a biproduct.

In WWE, I would buy a rubber chicken as an equaliser if Foley came down to go hardcore on Edge.

Doesn't mean they tried to pull it off as such.

He explained at one point that the reason he didnt speak to begin with was because he was afriad to show his true self in front of people, because he had been alone his whole life. Not a good explaination, but an explaination none the less.

The on - off relationship between the brothers is also explained. But all the while it is pretty dumb and not very well done either. Apparently they first joined because of the common enemy(Austin). Then reunited as the BOD, which made no sense, s Kane was standing up for Taker and Sara during the DDP fued.

I'm pretty sure if my brother intentionaly set me on fire as a child... I wouldnt protect his wife....
The Kane buried the Undertaker alive, they fight at WM...... then at the following Royal Rumble Kane saves Taker with no explaination, and they start randomly teaming again at house shows.

So yeah agreed, its pretty screwed up there.

Another thing as well, but I'm not sure if it counts. In Kane's novel it says that he was born with two different coloured eyes, which makes him very different from others. Whereas on TV, from the begining they stated that he had lost his sight in his right eye.

Rammsteinmad 03-22-2006 09:23 PM

That pic of Kane is ultra badass! I wish they kept him like that. Plus with all the mad destroying he was doing at the time it was awesome! Setting JR on fire... throwing RVD through a wall... falling off the stage and sitting back up again! Awesome!

Also, as for Lord-of-Darkness' comment about the brothers relationship... it's pretty much the same pathetic reason why JR get's set on fire for Kanes personal sadistic pleasure, and then a year later Snitsky crushes Kane's throat and JR's all "Bah god! This crazed animal! Get him outta here! Kane's had enough!!!"

XL 03-22-2006 11:01 PM

I think his attire should have a mention.

He came in with only one arm uncovered.

Then his top changed so that both arms, his shoulders and a lot of his chest was on show.

Then he got a new mask that revdaled more of his face.

Now he's topless.

Not once did they mention the changes.

You'd have thought someone would have said "hold on, I thought he was covered in scars"

Who knows, maybe it was actually an extremely long-term plan to get the whole mask off. It actually makes sense in his whole "evolution" (barring scarring and his voice).

And barring the whole "He's so damaged the normal lights are too bright for his skin" deal, the original reason he came out in the dim red light.

But ts things like continuity that WWE lack in things like this. Another example of this with Kane, as much as I love his pyro, if he was in a fire as a child - and therefore shit scared of it - you would think he wouldn't have flames coming out of everywhere on the way to the ring.

Yes I know it adds effect to the entrance, but its worth noting.

What? They actually used that as an excuse for the lighting? :wtf:

In one of his very first promos on Kane, Paul BEarer made reference to this. Several times afterwars in the next couple of weeks, announcers (Primarily JR, IIRC), made reference to this.

Remember, he came out for quite some time where he would only appear in red lighting. This was their reason.

Arguably, using that which scares the shit out of you against everyone else is not stupid, or an error, but strong psychological warfare.

Bruce Wayne was attacked by bats. Hell, in the new movie, they make it the thing he was MOST scared of.

Actually now that I think about it that does sound familiar.

That would explain me remembing some of his squash matches in red lighting...

Kane Knight 03-23-2006 10:42 AM

One of my favorite ones was when Mosh and Thrasher showed up and like, actually hit a move on him before jobbing thoroughly. :D

Kane Knight 03-23-2006 10:43 AM

Keep in mind though, he didn't really have any matches at that point, he'd show up and Hassan matches, and just destroy anyone in the ring...Midgets, faggots, anything that moves.
