PROGRAM TO LIMIT AMOUNT OF DOWNLOAD???

hello,

I have 2 pc's sharing an internet ASDL connection (it has a 3 gig /month cap) is there any program that i could install that will limit one pc so that it can only download 1gig a month cuz the fucker that are using that Pc are capping out our connection before the 15th of each month!!!

A program that is possibly password protected, with reminders popping up?

could you guys please tell me of a program that will do this?

Kind Regards
Mac

Try Traffic Counter:

I think it should do everything you are looking for.

lol capped bandwidth.

toxic rooster 03-26-2006 05:45 AM

I know what you mean, my house has 3 computers on the one connection. Between the porn I download, the porn my brother downloads and the baseball games my parents download, we struggle to stay under 10 a month

Funky Fly 03-27-2006 12:35 AM

Doesn't your ISP offer an unlimited bandwidth package?

toxic rooster 03-27-2006 04:22 AM

Yes, they do. However, their version of 'unlimited' is to give us 10 gig, then convert us to a retardedly slow connection for the rest of the month.

lol

Lame. I  Comcast. They keep raising the price of cable tv every year, but they also increase the speed of my internet connection every year too, so it balances out. Last year alone, they increased the speed twice and threw in McAfee's home pc products for free.

uthings are still very much expensive in south africa- we have only ONE telephone company and they are using their monopoly to squeeze out every cent from us

Comcast is great for the most part. I'm getting the 6 Mbps/down package, which is a great speed, but there are rumors of more upgrades coming. I've heard they're upping silver to 8Mbps and upping gold to possibly in excess of 12Mbps by the end of the year.

I've heard of people getting letters from Comcast for downloading too much, but they were downloading like 300Gigs a month.

Though most people who do that don't get it. Uncapped bandwidth is great. Before I started to really get into online gaming I was averaging about 10-20GB/month. I've stopped metering it, but I'd imagine I'm doing upwards of 30GB a month now (I've picked up on my downloading amount since stopping as well).

When Verison Fios comes through, and if it's uncapped, though, we're probably switching everything. 15Mbps down/2Mbps up for the same price.

Funky Fly 03-31-2006 07:18 PM

Holy shit. Both @ 300GB/month and @ Verizon's offer.

I probably use 10GB on an average month and upwards of 50 GB this month.

Xero 03-31-2006 09:10 PM

Yeah, those 300GB/month people were downloading full Linux distros, uncompressed movies and uncompressed music collections, sharing files, etc 24/7.

Silent 04-01-2006 05:31 AM

I pay for 1mbps and I get 4mbps speed. :o No bandwidth cap either.

Xero 04-01-2006 08:59 AM

I swear, you haven't lived until you can download 1 MB (Megabyte, not Megabit) in less than 2 seconds.

Of course, it's not exactly common (though not uncommon, either) to find servers to take advantage of the full speed.

The MAC 04-03-2006 09:27 AM

fuck you all (jealousy burns)

seriously though- you guys are lucky..here in south africa 99% of home users are on 56k dial up...for fuck Sake i am!!!

Disturbed316 04-04-2006 06:04 PM

lol 56K is older than the dinosaurs.

Xero 04-04-2006 07:04 PM

Even Dinosaurs had DSL...

V 04-05-2006 01:37 AM

300gb really isn't that much

i average about 100, but have had months with 200 - 250

Xero 04-05-2006 11:04 AM

WTF do you download? :wtf:

The MAC 04-06-2006 09:44 AM

cant be that much porn on the net..

Xero 04-06-2006 12:40 PM

You'd be suprised.

And I ain't talking about duplicates and short clips of the bigger versions, either.

V 04-08-2006 11:46 AM

I do not download porn. Seriously.

toxic rooster 04-08-2006 12:11 PM

I actually tried to eat up bandwidth, and only managed to download 4GB of porn, so Gohan must be doing something ridiculous.

Perhaps it's ultraporn or something

Xero 04-08-2006 12:29 PM

I caculated the WWE.com WrestleMania webcast and it did no more than 700MB on 500k quality. That's a four hour event streamed non-stop.

I could let that run for a full 31 days and it still would only eat up 127GB...

V 04-08-2006 01:00 PM

my computer is online 24/7 downloading something at all times

We pay enough for our net, may as well take advantage of every penny we spend

Funky Fly 04-08-2006 11:58 PM

Yeah, there is always something I want to d/l but I forget like 546798756798 things that I suddenly think of while away form the pc.

The MAC 04-10-2006 07:34 AM

I hate YOU PEOPLE AND YOUR FUCKING UNCAPPED 100000MEGS PER SECOND INTERNET CONNECTION!

this rsponse would have come earlier but I'm on 56K
