Neither of them are free.

Reason, you can get for around £250 (whatever in $), and has a number of samplers, synths, loop modules, drum machines, matrix pattern, vocoder, FX/compression modules, sequencer, automation. Cubase is more expensive, so best get reason, as you'll probably end up using the instruments from reason rather than the shit VSTs on cubase.

you don't ever ever want to use preinstalled guitars though, as they don't work at all if you're programming and ish. but for all your other needs, reason is great, yes.

I use the only free ones i have found, beatcraft and hyperscore.

Which ones have good guitars, for although I play guitar, I don't have a way to hook it to my computer.

Just buy an audio interface, which should connect to one of the USB ports on your computer. Or, if you have a load of money and a relatively new computer, buy an audio interface that connects via Firewire as its transfer rate remains constant, unlike USB, so you are less likely to get stuttering in your recordings.

Once you have a an audio interface you can just connect the guitar to it with a jack lead.

As for programs with decent guitar sounds, Mach Five has some decent acoustic guitar sounds, though I don't if it is available for PC as i've only used it on Pro Tools. You might want to try some of the dedicated guitar software, which you can find on music shop websites. Steinberg make some though I don't know if they sound particularly good, as I find all sampler software that i've used, like NN-19/XT, sound cheap and not particularly realistic.

And if you're feeling partricularly cheap, you can actually record via your mic input. All you need is an adapter for a quarter in jack to a whatever-the-computer-uses jack.

BTW, my drum machine just fried as I was programming it for some demos. Is there any good free drum programming software for a PC, preferably with some graphical interface that's a little more detailed than an 80s drum machine?

that's the way I used to record, but i was looking to make some postal service kind of crap. All my old demos are acoustic guitar one track with me on vocals and guitar at the same time. It actually sounds better than you'd think.

Considering my current demos are all one-shot to WAV via a single mic...I wouldn't be surprised.

However, you can use the same principle for multi-track recordings with a computer audio program.

I don't even have a mic for my comp anymore.. I'm looking for my mic because I do have a 4 track with 4 track tapes.

I've got a 4 track, but I was horrible about programming my drum machine, so I'd always put off recording on it.

Now all I need is some .WAV files of decent drum sounds so I can use the drum machine on my computer, because it's so much easier I wwould doubtlessly use it.

Just difficult making "rock" tracks without drums, and I suck as a drummer.

I thought it was just the door, but it's probably the heads upon furhter examination.

If it's just the door, it's nor much of a problem (LEast, it wouldn't be on mine).

It won't play, rewind, record, fast forward, or stop.

Can any of these programmes let you upload your own stuff onto them as well? and then add, cut and paste stuff around it?
