Joey styles (still) gettin heat for annoucing....

WTF is up with that? i dont get how one can be "cocky on air" in ECW when he was the only announcer, and even now i dont get whats so bad about him. fuck hes not telling me that ropes taste like barbecue sauce and knows what a wrestling move is called nine times outta eight (yea i said it). i guess having talent means your screwed in wwe, from the ring to the ringside.

He's really good for the most part. He and Coach interact well.

chipoftheoldblock 04-03-2006 11:12 AM

No doubt the dude is talented but till J.R. is alive his chances to announcing raw are really low.

Xero 04-03-2006 11:13 AM

He's good, but as he said in an interview on WWE.com about not announcing WrestleMania, which is true, he isn't a "Storyteller" like JR is. He's more of a Play-By-Play man in the traditional sense, instead of hyping up the storyline he hypes up the match (telling the story through the match).

And in ECW, when he announced alone, he had to play both the straight and color man, so that was completely different.

He's the first and I think the ONLY wrestling announcer to ever announce a PPV by himself.

I think Joey and Coach could work well together, as I said before, the King is not adding anything to the broadcast and that's bringing down Styles. What could work is JR as COLOUR and Styles calling the match. That way JR can storytell and Styles can do his job and call the match.

Kane Knight 04-03-2006 01:24 PM

Coach is shit, but Lawler is the real problem. He still seems to be working hard to not put anyone other than Ross over. I swear, Ross'll be three years dead, and whoever replaces him this time will get shit for not being good, because King's still trying to mark his territory.

Styles and King were a great team at Taboo Tuesday, and would be again.

Remove the Coach.

Skippord 04-03-2006 05:39 PM

Joey Styles and Josh Matthews would be ratings up the wazoo

Joey Styles does a damn fine job announcing, I don't know what the fuck Vince is smoking these days.

Corkscrewed 04-03-2006 07:22 PM

Poor Joey. The nonegotistical guys seem to always get the bad shit.

Savio 04-03-2006 10:26 PM

Styles is overrated.

Same thing he's been smoking for years.

I can understand why you would say that, but I disagree. To be able to talk so much, get off so much information while telling a story (which Joey Styles does do, perhaps even better than JR) is extremely hard to do, especially without pausing and getting lost in it all. Styles is the best commentator the WWE has right now, even moreso than Josh Mathews.

The WWE needs to pull its head out of its ass, take a look at what is really happening on the announce team, listen to how Jerry Lawler contributes NOTHING to the show, get him out of there and just leave Styles & Coach. Let Styles call matches the way he wants to do it. Some people are generally turned off the the hyperbole of JR and Tony Shiavone. We are not in the Attitude era, calling things how they happen is the best way to go.

You know why Joey Styles didn't sound surprised when Randy Orton RKO'd John Cena on RAW a few weeks back? Because it WASN'T surprising. If the WWE wants Styles to sound surprised, surprise him. Otherwise, don't complain about reactions that are probably very similiar to the crowd's reaction.

Savio 04-03-2006 10:56 PM

I did like Styles at ONS though.

jindrak 04-05-2006 02:36 PM

I have seen te future of wrestling. And he is Josh Matthews.

Jindrak, that's not wise!

Mr. Nerfect 04-05-2006 04:58 PM

Josh Mathews & Tazz?

D Mac 04-06-2006 01:05 AM

Bring back Tony Schivonte! :shifty:

The Heat 04-06-2006 01:57 AM

Tony Schiavone? Yeah, that'll put "butts in the seats"

But, I don't think Styles has been all that bad. He seems a little bit standoff-ish at certain times, but, he does accuratately call moves and can go the whole show without mixing up Shane McMahon/Shawn Michaels. Meanwhile, JR is screwin' up as usual and "Shane McMahon" mistakenly comes out as "Shawn McMichaels".

I wonder if Mongo McMichaels gets any royalties of the mention of his last name?
