I found this list on a site called DigitalDreamdoor. What do you think? There were quite a few names that raised my eyebrow...like Nuno Bettencourt at #33? I look at Digital Dream Door every now and then, though I usually have big problems with their lists. This is one of their better ones though.

weather vane 04-07-2006 07:54 PM

No Mick Mars? I'm surprised. Not just because i'm a big Crue fan either.

LK 04-07-2006 08:05 PM

In my humble opinion, Frusciante should be a hell of a lot higher.

weather vane 04-07-2006 08:34 PM

The more I look at this the more I disagree with it. It is pretty damn hard to choose the top 100.

RoXer 04-07-2006 09:41 PM

Slash needs to be higher then Buckethead. No Bradley Nowell :(

Kane Knight 04-07-2006 09:44 PM

This is ooooold.

BTW. Nuno>j00.

Kane Knight 04-07-2006 09:45 PM

Also, May and Iommi both need to be higher.

DaveWadding 04-07-2006 11:56 PM

Santana at 28? Fuck you. That guy is a genius.

Walsh is severely underrated at 97, but it's nice to see him on there at least.

Kane Knight 04-07-2006 11:58 PM

Santana's a genius and Gore really did invent the Internet.

and KK is straight.

err...

el fregadero 04-08-2006 02:28 AM

Prince should be top 10 no doubt.

Kane Knight 04-08-2006 10:10 AM

Also, Hendrix is WAY too high up the list.

Skippord 04-08-2006 12:16 PM

Now how the fuck did Buckethead get higher than Slash

FakeLaser 04-08-2006 12:22 PM

I like Page better than Clapton, but that's just me I guess.

Rammsteinmad 04-08-2006 06:29 PM

I gotta admit, that's probably the best "top 100 guitarists" lists I've ever seen.

I remember seeing one a few years back where the guitarists from Korn were higher than John Petrucci!

Kane Knight 04-08-2006 08:31 PM

Well, eve this list seems to prioritise based upon popularity.

Also, I just noticed no Paul McCartney. WTF. Are they retarded?

George Harrison was better.

And he didn't make the list, either.

Watson 04-09-2006 01:33 PM

Angus Young 50th?! That list is utter bullshit.

Harrison was a better composer, McCartney was better (like Lennon) at taking complex shit and making it sound easy.

From a musician's standpoint, there is very little Harrison had on McCartney.

Kane Knight 04-09-2006 10:27 PM

Townshend probably should be lower, BTW.

from a composition standpoint, the guy's top notch. From the standpoint of actually playing guitar, there are probably two dozen more people I'd put before him. No nkock on Pete...Just the truth.

I want to say David Gilmour should be higher but I don't think there's any cracking that top 9. I'd switch him and Blackmore, on second thought.

Anyway, that's still too low, imo.

Nobody from mars volta made it... eh in like 20 years they'll be on all the top 100 lists...

Believe it or not, he comes in at #185.

weather vane 04-10-2006 08:20 PM

Holy shit that is quite low. He is very underrated though.

He's on the Bass guitarists list.

weather vane 04-10-2006 10:54 PM

I just checked out the other lists on that site. They must hate Motley Crue, like REALLY hate them.

Omar makes the top 200 actually, if I remember correctly. Should definitely be in the top 100 though.

Considering the number of other guitarists who deserve higher slots...I doubt it.

Yeah, there's a certain someone not included in the list of Top 100 Drummers. Basically, that makes me want to throw a skull rapin' to whoever runs that website.

el fregadero 04-11-2006 09:54 PM

I hear you, HamNegger. I can't believe Questlove isn't on there either.

asphyXy 04-12-2006 12:26 AM

They just took the Rolling Stone top 100 and sprinkled in a few names that people bitched about not being there. Marty Friedman is too low.

Why do so many people think that Jimi Hendrix is the best guitarist ever? He was a terrible guitarist. I don't care how much "feeling" he played with, he went out of key on a regular basis during his "amazing" guitar solos.

el fregadero 04-12-2006 12:32 AM

David Gilmour
Jimmy Page
Tom Morello
Brian May
Eric Clapton

BTW

Joey Slugs 04-12-2006 03:13 AM

any list that doesn't have Clapton at #1 is highly suspect

FakeLaser 04-12-2006 05:25 PM

I think this list has been around longer than the Rolling Stone one.

RP 05-06-2006 02:17 AM

Zack Wylde would be in the top 10 list for me.

Tom Morello in the top 20 for sure.
