Umaga

Well I have heard many things about him, I know he is Jamal. I Havent actually seen any wrestling for a while (besides WM 22) and I went onto WWE.com just to have a look at the superstars page. And i love the way they have created this Umaga character. The Samoan look, with the face paint and the grass skirt. It looks like he is a real warrior from Samoa. It would be cool if in his entrance he came out and did a Haka (Warrior Tribal Dance), I would mark out even if I didn't see it.

AJHayes 04-17-2006 09:26 PM

I'm getting out my asbestos umbrella, because I have a feeling its going to rain flames.

DaBrasko 04-17-2006 10:32 PM

I think they are trying to use Umaga as their answer to Joe. :shifty:

Pardeep 619 04-18-2006 07:50 AM

I'm not too sure what to think of the Umaga character. It's unlikely that he will get a push as I.C. or World Champion, so I'm wondering what the WWE will do with the character. Making him look like a dominant force for a couple of weeks may be good, but this time next year I'd be surprised if he isn't jobbing left, right and centre.

When I watch him I have to check my calander to make sure i'm not in the 1980's, it's a very retro character and a very retro style push thus far, i'm not into it

AJHayes 04-18-2006 08:16 AM

*puts away umbrella*

Well, apparently the forecast was wrong.

I know what you mean, but I think I like him because I have the same kind of heritage. That Polynesian heritage.

Stickman 04-18-2006 12:13 PM

It's up there with the Boogeyman gimmick.

JH 04-18-2006 12:18 PM

they ripped off the tonga kid gimmick from the 80's
the writers are recycling old stuff from the 80's and 90's just like letting all of the spirit squad defend the title.....demolition did it but yet they are acting like it's never been done before
i'm getting sick of wwe......the only reason i am even watching it is for the guys i like on there

Dorkchop 04-18-2006 12:23 PM

I enjoyed his match against HBK on Raw. Did you hear the crowd when he did that forst headbut on HBK when he was in a tree of woe?

Umaga is new, and I don't think right now he should be feuding with the top guys though. On the other hand no one is going to give a single crap about him if he's fighting jobbers (Rob Conway counts).

So far I actually don't mind - like him. Currently I like him better than the Boogeyman. Now if the Boogeyman goes back to popping out of nowhere, then the Boogeyman will be way awesomer.

He needs to not have blank tights. Why not just have a white tribal design on them?

Oh and how long until they call his manager just Estrada. You know it's going to happen.

Dorkchop 04-18-2006 12:30 PM

But they should have kept Roesy for 3 Minute Warning.

redoneja 04-18-2006 12:38 PM

UUUUUUUUUUUUUUMAGAAA!!!!

.44 Magdalene 04-18-2006 01:50 PM

Actually, DaBrasko might be on to something. I sorta noticed that, too.

Savio 04-18-2006 03:01 PM

I like his music.

The One 04-18-2006 04:35 PM

Nothing about him amuses me in the slightest way. This one time when I was 7 I fell off my bike and got cuts and scrapes everywhere. And even that was more enjoyable then watching Umaga. Between him, Boogeyman, and about a dozen other shity gimmicks floating around WWE, as a fan, it's getting harder and harder to look at myself in the mirror

Watch out. Someone's gonna get all retarded and whine that you're never positive about anybody (A dozen or two names aside) new, etc....

Ican foresee the future.

happylad 04-18-2006 05:53 PM

give umaga about 3 weeks and i hope he'l be on heat ... but knowing the scripts the wwe come up with hell end up being drafted to smackdown to tag with the boogeyman
:|

Fox 04-19-2006 01:25 AM

Fuck Umaga.

That is all.

St. Jimmy 04-19-2006 04:15 AM

i mentioned this in the Raw thread,
calling him "the Samoan Wrecking machiene" is really a shot at Joe.
which is kinda stupid, IMO. since joe is overrated x 9.

Chico 04-20-2006 10:58 AM

Hmm...looks to me like a ripoff of the old Headshrinkers gimmick. To be honest, I can't see it lasting too long.

But I wonder if they'll start an "Ooh, ahh, Umaga!" chant for him, like at rugby matches in New Zealand for Tana Umaga (former All Blacks captain, for those who don't know).

Gertner 04-20-2006 03:57 PM

he hasn't been THAT bad so far

Cuzziebro 04-20-2006 05:28 PM

I haven't actually seen any of his wrestling only photos of him. I wouldn't mind watching a match if someone would like to post it.

Xero 04-20-2006 08:06 PM

Did you ever see 3MW?

Or Meng?

That was exactly my thought. Seems like a remarkable coincidence that twelve years ago, his cousin was doing almost the exact same gimmick (except he had a tag team partner), no?

That said, Armando Alejandro Estrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrada is pretty entertaining.

Blue Demon 04-20-2006 09:08 PM

I say give him a bit of time right now, but as it stands currently I don't see him going very far.

Fox 04-21-2006 12:41 AM

His name is Umaga. COME ON!

Skippord 04-21-2006 01:07 AM

WTF? Is the deal with the thumb thing

Indifferent Clox 04-21-2006 01:18 AM

Umaga does not deserve his own thread.

Yes I have, but sometimes wrestlers with new gimmicks have a new style. Maybe not, I don't know.

94 SVT Cobra 04-21-2006 03:29 AM

the whole gimmick really isnt that bad, they wanted a monster, they made on that came out of the jungle...while not orginal, its nice to see another monster who doesnt look like he lives in a gym everyday of his life. (masters and the what not)
Hes that "im fat, but you best believe theres muscle in there too buddy" typa body, and since hes supposed to be a from a jungle were they nearest NYSC isnt exactly a 20 min drive, i think it works even better.
