Unique stadiums

I was just looking through some site filled with all of the worlds major soccer stadiums, and there are some really sweet ones. Sure the big ones are sweet, like San Siro and Amsterdam ArenA, but some of the lesser known ones are pretty sweet. There's like hundreds on this site, but here are a few that I really liked.

Stadio Renzo Barbara - Palermo

http://www.stadiumguide.com/ataturkolympia4.jpg
Atatürk Olympia Stadi - It's new and in Turkey, not sure who'll play there

Estadio Azteca - Club America in Mexico

That's all I care to find now, but post others, and those from other sports as well.

samichna 04-21-2006 01:36 AM

They all look the same to me.

DaveWadding 04-21-2006 03:59 AM

the new Cardinals stadium is gonna be pretty kick ass, shame they suck balls.

loopydate 04-21-2006 12:49 PM

Is it Houston's baseball park that has that hill in centerfield? I always thought that was an interesting (meaning "weird") choice. Reminds me of playing ball in the side yard as a kid.

ct2k 04-21-2006 12:52 PM

Can't beat old Fenway and the monster, or that stupid swimming pool at the Diamondbacks' place.

loopydate 04-21-2006 12:53 PM

What about McCovey Cove in San Francisco? I always thought that was a cool feature. Rent canoes to chase home run balls.

ct2k 04-21-2006 12:57 PM

Yeah McCovey cove is cool, isn't there like an open bit down by the walkway so people walking can catch a glimpse too?

loopydate 04-21-2006 01:00 PM

Yeah, I think so.

ct2k 04-21-2006 01:06 PM

Coors field is good for popcorn baseball fans, any half arsed fly ball has a chance to go all the way there

Fenway Park is pretty different, built between 4 streets. Fits with Boston though, since there is really no type of grid system at all in the city - one of the streets is a diagonal angle, making the park have different shape.

Shea Stadium also has all that shit going on in the outfield, like the big ass apple and a few other things. I heard that place is a shithole though, haven't been yet but I'll make there at some point (well before they close it)

McLegend 04-21-2006 03:44 PM

I went to Shea once and it was terrible. I grew up in the Vet so I was use to terrible stadiums, but Shea was pretty much the worse stadium I have ever been to.

Also I always liked the waterfalls in the Royals Stadium.

Not only do they have the hill, there's a huge flagpole right in the middle of it, on the actual field.

FakeLaser 04-21-2006 06:29 PM

Shea Stadium is like the worst place on the planet. What a shithole.

sadio8 04-21-2006 06:49 PM

I know that skydome ( erm rogers-center) has the skydome hotel... do any other stadiums have that at all? I've always wondered this...

Flair Wooo 04-21-2006 07:25 PM

The atmosphere inside anfield on a european night is matched by non!

Try about 110K at a PSU, OSU or Michigan college football game on for size.

Jesus Shuttlesworth 04-21-2006 08:14 PM

'Sea of white' during the Penn State game last year was pretty fucking insane

Team Sheep 04-22-2006 03:02 PM

I went to Shea last Summer, and from your seat it does look like quite a nice ballpark. It's a bit scruffy from the ground though.

Allianz Arena - Munich.

YOUR Hero 04-23-2006 01:49 PM

Houston should get rid of that center field mound thing. That's an injury waiting to happen

Skippord 04-24-2006 12:27 AM

Yeah someone is gonna kill themselves on that

Michigan fans are so quiet it's pathetic. The other two are good examples though.

I think Penn State has the coolest stadium in college football

The new stadiums being built in the UK look pretty cool. Examples:

Emirates Stadium

Stanley Park

Landsdowne Road

and of course the most obscene of all of them, the new Wembley Stadium

Obviously I have to post the Withdean, considering, until next season, they played in the 2nd highest league in English football.

Its ridiculously big and you're meant to be able to see it from absolutely miles away when its lit up.

It's also makes it recognisable and gives it something so you recognise it as a landmark when you're in London. "Oh thers Big Ben, oh theres Buckingham Palace, oh theres the Wembley Arch" etc.</font>

And Landsdowne isn't in the UK

"I got a cab from the airport, and the cab driver says 'Welcome to Melbourne, where are you from?'. When I tell him I'm Irish, first thing he says is 'Not doing too well in the Commonwealth Games, eh?'

So I replied 'Didn't you hear, the Irish decided not to come. There was a big argument, it's been in all the news, the papers, the radio everywhere. In fact, the argument's been going for about 800 years as to whether we'd be in this year's Commonwealth Games".
