Judgment Day Main Event announced

Can JBL end Mysterio's miracle reign?
April 29, 2006

SmackDown General Manager Theodore Long has announced the main event for Judgment Day, which will take place Sunday, May 21, at the U.S. Airways Center in Phoenix, Ariz. The self-proclaimed American Hero, and United States Champion, JBL will challenge the biggest underdog World Heavyweight Champion in the history of sports-entertainment – Rey Mysterio.

JBL issued the challenge last week on SmackDown during his United States Championship celebration. “I took a Championship off your two buddies, Chris (Benoit) and Eddie (Guerrero). You’re the third, amigo,” said the cocky JBL. “That thing is bigger than you,” he said about the World Heavyweight Championship on Rey’s shoulder. “That thing will look really good on my right shoulder with (the U.S. Championship) on my left.”

Mysterio has admitted that his Championship reign can end at any time. The 5 foot 6, 165 pound champion may be small in stature, but his enormous heart cannot be overlooked. Although Rey’s miracle reign as champion can come to an abrupt halt at any time, one thing is for sure – the master of the 619 will give it everything he’s got. Will it be enough, though, when he faces JBL at Judgment Day?

Alienoid just died a little on the inside...

Team Sheep 04-29-2006 11:21 AM

Smackdown is seriously lacking main eventers now. They've lost Eddie, Batista, Orton and Angle in the past 6 months, and half of that is because of Mark Henry. Hopefully Kane will be altering this main event somehow.

SammyG 04-29-2006 11:23 AM

So is JBL gonna be a double champion, or is he gonna drop the US title?

Kane Knight 04-29-2006 11:23 AM

I refuse to believe it until I see it on WWE.com...

Kane Knight 04-29-2006 11:24 AM

...Oh. :(

Loose Cannon 04-29-2006 11:25 AM

oh man, I will mark the fuck out if he walks out with both belts. That will bring back memories of Mania 6. I love IC/World, US/World Title matches. In theory, the guy holding the 2nd belt is really the #1 contender in my eyes.

Rob 04-29-2006 11:28 AM

Just what they need, ANOTHER tournament for a title or a shot.

Kane Knight 04-29-2006 11:33 AM

ISn't an enourmous heart a dangerous thing to have?

CharismaInjection 04-29-2006 11:36 AM

I guess that kinda makes the 'Kane' rumour false...

Kane Knight 04-29-2006 11:42 AM

I think the KAne Rumour was proven false the minute they suggested he might get a title run.

St. Jimmy 04-29-2006 02:06 PM

i could buy Bradshaw as a double champion.
entertaining as all hell. he seriously saves Smackdown for me,
storyline/promowise.

Kane Knight 04-29-2006 02:08 PM

He also draws like shit though, which begs the question--Will they slap TWO titles on him?

V 04-29-2006 02:12 PM

man i need to spend more time in the wrestling forum

when you said "draws" i thought you meant as in pictures =\

UmbrellaCorporation 04-29-2006 04:06 PM

If there is a higher power, JBL will beat Mysterio for the title.

Rob 04-29-2006 04:09 PM

There is a higher power. It's Vince. Remember?

The One 04-29-2006 04:12 PM

Exactly, Vince is the Higher Power and since he has a hard on for JBL, JBL wins via Higher Power granting UC's request.

So wtf was all that stuff to do with Kane about then?Maybe it will turn into a triple threat match after the draft.Yeah that's just what we need, two triple threat matches main eventing the first two PPVs after WM.

Vermaat 04-29-2006 06:53 PM

WWE is not going to have Rey Mysterio lose to JBL. Rey is their biggest new star and JBL is well, lol.

Kane Knight 04-29-2006 07:02 PM

Biggest new star. LOL.

Couldn't even get over at Mania...

But then, you like championing losers. :D

happylad 04-29-2006 07:04 PM

JBL will lose this theyll just use him as a springboard to claim that now rey has beaten the greatest champ of the last decade. As much as Mcmahon likes JBL ,hes stubborn and wont accept Rey being champ is a mistake plus they want to make everything Rey does an against all odds story.Hell probably lose the title in a couple of months. If he doesnt ill cry :'(

Not to mention thinks he's one of the hardest workers, despite a match with a "broken Down" Angle in which Angle really made the match.

Mr. Nerfect 04-29-2006 08:09 PM

I called Rey Mysterio vs. JBL the minute the King of the Ring Tournament was announced. But now, with Kurt Angle injured and out of the tournament (I think they should have a Battle Royal, or some kind of Triple Threat between Matt Hardy, Bobby Lashley & Finlay/Chris Benoit to decide a replacement, Gunner Scott in the KOR Tournament would be fantastic), I really have to question this move.

Rey Mysterio vs. JBL, with the winner getting both belts (I hope), could be really great, but what else are they going to have on the card? JBL as US Champion provided another title match on the JD card, but now they're sliding everything up, compacting it so they need more Diva and random crap. Here is what the Judgment Day card could have looked like:

World Heavyweight Championship/WWE United States Championship
Rey Mysterio vs. JBL

Flashbacks of Giant Gonzales
The Undertaker vs. The Great Khali

King of the Ring Semi-Finals Match
Kurt Angle vs. Booker T

King of the Ring Semi-Finals Match
Chris Benoit vs. Bobby Lashley

WWE Tag Team Championship
MNM vs. Paul London & Brian Kendrick

Some Kind of Gimmick Match
Paul Burchill vs. William Regal

Cruiserweight Clusterfuck
Gregory Helms vs. Super Crazy vs. Psicosis vs. Kid Kash vs. Jamie Noble vs. Funaki vs. Scotty 2 Hotty vs. Simon Dean vs. Nunzio vs. Steven Richards vs. Shannon Moore

Heat Match
Matt Hardy & Tatanka vs. Finlay & Mark Henry

Now, with Kurt Angle gone, the WWE has to move everything up. Hopefully they use this as a chance to get guys like Matt Hardy, Gregory Helms or Paul Burchill more time. My bet is Jillian Hall vs. Melina will be given extra time, though.

You had me at Scottish. ;)

But naw. Just in case you haven't encountered Cena's biggest fan before...This guy thinks Cena keeps it real and Mysterio's the only cruiserweight who isn't lazy.

Rob 04-29-2006 08:47 PM

Well fuck me. I stand corrected.

aaukaratekid20 04-29-2006 09:46 PM

it wont happen kane will be there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !

The Naitch 04-29-2006 09:59 PM

Rey will get the Chris Benoit treatment. They give him the huge win at Mania, but only to transition it over to someone else

As a fan of Rey, you can't count out a WrestleMania WHC win (and 2006 Royal Rumble victory) away from him, but realistically, it served another purpose.

Like Chris Benoit was a 'transitional champ' to Randy Orton, Rey will play the same role to Kane

But then again, you can't take that away from them. They won the big one at WrestleMania and nobody can take that away from them

Kane Knight 04-29-2006 10:18 PM

Since Rey was never supposed to be hcampion or main event Mania, he's lucky he's made it this far.

If anything Orton was a transitional champ for Triple H. Benouit held it from WM to SS, Orton dropped it after a month

*Wants to shoot self at thought of JBL champion again*

Thechampishere! 04-30-2006 06:33 AM

JBL Champ again?
Holy shit ,that'll mean He'll try to be Heel ,He'll do shitty Matches again ,doesn't show alot of skill ,and gives that foul smile.

In APA he was "normal" .

SammyG 04-30-2006 07:19 AM

JBL's promos are gold though.
