Who was the last ever European Champion?

Before the title was discontinued.

Corndad 05-01-2006 01:32 AM

According to WWE.com...

Jeff Hardy
July 8, 2002 - July 21, 2002
Former Intercontinental Champion Jeff Hardy defeated William Regal for the European Championship on July 8, 2002. He held the title until July 21, 2002. It was on this date that RAW General Manager Eric Bischoff ordered a title unification match between Hardy and Intercontinental Champion Rob Van Dam. Van Dam won and it was last anybody saw of the European Championship.

That was when they had all those WCW belts as well after the Invasion so had to cut down some where.

The One 05-01-2006 02:27 AM

Uh...no. By the time the European Championship was unified with the Intercontinental Championship all of the WCW Titles were off TV.

The US and IC Title as well as the WWF and WCW Tag Titles were unified on 11-12-01. And the WCW Title was unified with the WWF Title on 12-09-01.

Depends on how you look at it. RVD won the match against Jeff Hardy to unify the I/C and Euro belts. But Jeff Hardy was the last champion before it was absorbed.

Rob 05-01-2006 02:11 PM

So the last guy seen holding the European title was Rob Van Dam and yet he might not be the last champ?

Next thing you'll be saying Chris Jericho wasn't the last WCW champ.

We had a whole thread on that. People were saying that he wasn't because they saw that as one tournament thus he was never the WCW (or WWF) champion, only the Undisputed champion, or something like that.

Being a champion is not necessarily the same as holding the title in your hands. It's not as though they unified the belts after RVD won it; the match was intended as a unification in itself, therefore the belt, at the moment the match ended, was absorbed into the Intercontinental championship. That's just my take on it.

Under that context, the last WCW champion was indeed Chris Jericho, because there was no belt that absorbed the two titles until April 2002, when they merged (and unified) into an actual, tangible belt (WWF Undisputed Championship).

It was TECHNICALLY one championship after Jericho won both. He never defended JUST the WWF or JUST the WCW title, it was always the one, even though there were two physical belts.

TerranRich 05-01-2006 05:44 PM

True, and that's what I meant by "tangible belt". I left out the fact that it was one single championship, true, and it was unified, but since the two belts still existed as two separate objects (under one championship), Jericho can more easily be seen as the last WCW champion. It's all semantics, really. :p

The Mackem 05-03-2006 08:11 AM

Bullshit, I was the last WCW champion.

TerranRich 05-03-2006 12:47 PM

I was the last WCW Women's Champion. ;)

Rob 05-03-2006 01:35 PM

This is fucking sad.

TerranRich 05-03-2006 03:07 PM

Right!

Cool King 05-03-2006 03:42 PM

Wasn't the last champ Regal?

He lost the Title to Spike in a really quick match because Spike used Regal's knucks before the bell rang. Then about two weeks later Regal won it back and then after a while it became defunct.

No, Regal lost it to Jeff Hardy two months after he won it back from Spike.

Mr. JL 05-03-2006 10:50 PM

Jeff Hardy was the last one seen holding the WWE European Championship. Then, on Eric Bischoff's first RAW as General Manager he said RVD and Hardy will unify the two belts into the Intercontinental title in a ladder match. Jeff Hardy never brought the European title down to the ring, nor was the European title hanging up with the Intercontinental title.

------------------------------------------------------------------------
So, Jeff Hardy most likely got high somewhere and the belt is around the waist of some drugged out drug dealer who thinks he's the champion of Europe. Then the WWE had to make a quick decision to scrap the title because Jeff lost it somewhere.

The One 05-04-2006 03:38 AM

Sounds pretty likely to me...

Optimistic T 05-04-2006 10:52 AM

Alright... Xero, technically Jericho won the WCW title off of The Rock and defended it against Austin. Granted, all of that happened in the same night (Vengeance 2001), but he still did go into the unification match defending just his WCW championship. Under that line, Austin would've been the last WWF Champion before it became undisputed and switched over to WWE. Again, he defended his belt more than Jericho had... but they both went into that match defending their respective "World Championships".

The European Championship can be disputed. Jeff Hardy was the last to defend the championship. RVD was the last one to win it. (Hardy's win was shortly after his ladder match against Taker and somewhat of a reward, I believe.)

Finally, you can substitute the Hardcore Championship for the Euro, Jeff Hardy for Tommy Dreamer and RVD for er... RVD and argue the "last ever Hardcore champion" if you want, as well.

The whole dispute over the last Euro/HC champions is along the lines of arguing whether the World Championship begins with Bischoff giving HHH the big gold belt or else whether it can trace it's lineage back to the WCW World Title. Everyone has their sides and there's no real point in heavily arguing it. Just believe you want to believe.

(p.s. it's all fake anyway!)

Uh, yeah, I was one of the ones defending that they were two seperate defenses.

ddpBANG 05-11-2006 05:33 AM

Now I'm here

:shifty:

Crippla 05-11-2006 06:27 PM

yes i can see someone arguing that the World Title which was awarded to Triple H is the WCW Title and i agree with it because after Survivor Series 2001 they renamed the WCW Title The World Title...so in my opinion Rey Mysterio is current World Champ

Erm... in your opinion? Of course he's the current World Champ.

In my opinion, Rob Van Dam is the current I/C champ. :shifty:
