WWE Aquires Another Tape Library
 

CJ sent word that Ohio Valley Wrestling sent out this email this morning to its monthly TV tape buying customers:

We regret to inform you that after you receive the April 2006 OVW video, you will not be receiving anymore monthly videos after that.
WWE has acquired the complete OVW library and upon doing so we will no longer be offering any OVW products.

Your subscription would normally not end until June 2006 (2 months left) so we are offering three options to satisfy your investment:
I) refund by check for the remaining videos
2) we will offer you 3 DVDs of your choice from whatever is listed in DVD form on our website.
3) will will offer you 4 VHS of your choice from whatever is listed in VHS form on our website.

The shipping expenses are paid by OVW Internet Sales of course.

You must let me know asap what you would like to do as this must be taken care of promptly. You just need to respond back from this e-mail to me and I can get finish out your account.

I knew that WWE was in talks with OVW owners Danny Davis and Jim Cornette to get the rights to the footage. Now they have.

It's run as a smalltime promotion with its own angles etc.

I also thought WWE had already owned it. I guess it's technically its own entity that's closely run with the WWE, but not under it.

They are affiliated, but the WWE doesn't own them. WWE signs new blood, OVW grooms them, WWE calls them up to the big leagues.

My dream job would definitely be being the guy in charge of the video archives at WWE.

Maybe not directly, but it wouldn't surprise me at all if they use OVW footage to introduce the "new blood" that ECW is expected to have. What I've read so far indicates that the ECW roster is going to be made up of ECW alumni as well as young guys from the WWE developmental system.

So, maybe we'll get video packages of the CM Punk/Brent "Gunner Scott" Albright feud to hype up Punk before his ECW debut. Actually, come to think of it, Punk would be an excellent fit in ECW. I think they should use Deuce Shade in ECW, too, since his dad was the first Eastern Championship Wrestling Champion back in the early 1990s.

I was also thinking earlier this week that it might be a good idea to have ECW "acquire" the Cruiserweight Title. Heyman's always had a knack for booking lightweight wrestlers, and maybe having him buy out that title and turn it into the next incarnation of the Television Title would be interesting. Maybe have Super Crazy win the Cruiser title from Helms this summer, then jump ship back to ECW, bringing the title with him.

Unless WWE is going to start releasing videos, this is probably bad for business.

Yeah on some DVDS WWE has shown OVW footage of Brock, Orton, and Nova.

I wonder how much money the WWE paid for the OVW tape library.

Id say several hundered thousand. Because they paid only a million for the nice Florida footage.

Id say they will use it to make DVDs in the future of guys like Orton Batista Shelton and Cena.

Yeah. Look how badly they ruined Leviathan, Prototype, and that Orton kid. Plus those two guys from Minnesota...what were their names? Lesnar and Benjamin? Man, what I wouldn't give for one OVW success story!

Maybe they'll finally release that Doug Basham vs. Chris Benoit, Iron Man Match so you all won't think I'm crazy... :shifty:

This sounds really stupid to me, as the footage really adds nothing. Unless you wanted to promote guys like Nick Dinsmore, Rob Conway, Doug Basham, Danny Basham, Ken Doane, Johnny Jeter, etc. It's not a bad idea, but I doubt the WWE will use it.

That sounds like 2/3rds of the roster.

Nick Dinsmore did not have the retard gimmick until he was called up to WWE. I'd rather stay in OVW for eternity then be forced to act retarded even outside of my job.
