360 or PS3
Well, I was hoping one of them would come out with something to make me get one or the other but I'm still very much in the middle here. On another forum I post at everyone seems pretty geared towards the 360. This place seems to have a bit more PS bias so I thought I would ask here too.
I'm getting a Wii, no question on that front. However, I want ONE of the more mainstream ones as well this year so I'll just say what I think here. The 3 reasons I owned a PS2 were PES, Smackdown and GTA, all of which will be on both consoles. Don't really like RPGs too much so it's not a consideration. I also don't give 2 shits about blu-ray movies. Also bear in mind that developers have said there is not noticible difference in graphics on games running on either hardware. 360 pros: - I like the controller better (never got on with dual shock) -Live Arcade -Proven network capabilitiies -If I am that skint, the core model is upgradable in the future -Rare, although all the crap they've shown so far is sub-par -Lionhead, probably the main factor for myself on this one 360 cons: -loud -HUGE power pack -Lack of Japanese devs PS3 pros: -MGS4 (May come out on 360 like MGS2 did?) -Japanese devs (Katamari, Viewtiful Joe) PS3 cons: -Price -Core model doesn't seem to be upgradable to wi-fi and card slots -Dual shake or whatever it's called Thats what I got so far. I'm definatly leaning towards the 360, so what is making people go gaga about the PS3 so far? Something I've missed? |
Personally it always seemed to me that Playstation had a better selection of games than the XBox. That doesn't mean that its going to ring true with the PS3/360 but theres a sure chance it will. I ended up having all three (Cube, Box and PS2, got the PS2 first, then the Box then the Cube). I don't see myself doing so with this wave of consoles, but the games always seemed to be better in terms of variety and quality on the PS2.
I'm hoping that trend continues, which is primarily my reason for going PS3. |
I never liked my X Box. As far as I'm concerned, the Box is all about Halo, and I fucking HATED it. Fable is the ONLY game that I liked on it which wasn't on another console (PC maybe but not console).
Metal Gear Solid 4, GTA4 (even though it's coming out on both) and the SvR series with the dual shock, plus the HUGE back library of PSX and PS2 games has me sold. |
MGS is now exlusive to Sony from an interview I read. Supposedly that team will develop exclusive games for each of the new systems, MGS being for Sony. Then you've got games like Tekken, God of War, DMC, and Soul Cal (which is rumored to be exclusive on PS). I will be going for PS3 personally.
|
I had all 3 at one point gc ps2 and x box, and i played on the ps2 simply because of the selection of games. Apart from halo, pgr and splinter cell & Mario sunshine, metroid and windwaker.
Ill be getting a ps3 as soon as it comes out, i know my dad wants a 360, hes just waiting for a better catalogue and as for the wiii, ill get it when the price comes down |
PS3, purely based on Gran Turismo, Virtua Fighter, and SvR; also, judging by the current gen libraries, Sony just has the better games :y:
|
Yeah seems I'm not the only one. Plus, with the 360 only selected games are backwards compatible. That is a pretty big blunder I think.
PS3 will have the whole library of the PS1, PS2, and PS3 games, no exceptions. I don't know about the Wii or whatever, but I've never been huge on Nintendo in the first place. I don't play games as much as I used to, but the majority of what I play are sports games. I love the Dual Shock design and the control schemes for most sports games are really good on that controller. I will say that the new 360 controllers feel very natural, especially since they moved the white/black buttons up top. I don't think either system has an advantage in that aspect anymore. When it boils down to it, definitely PS3. They have great games, by which I mean good franchises that are great games. I don't plan on getting one at launch anyways, so when I can get one of their premium bundles or whatever for cheaper I'll do that. |
PS3 by far for me. Some of those games might be available on both but I like the DualShock controller more and this new one seems even better. Greater resolution, tilt controller, huge library, advanced graphics, the PS3 Network, the use of the PSP, etc.
Not to mention the chance for future updates to the system. With their firmware support for the PSP they could do a bunch with it. Since the PSP has a mini flash player on it I'm sure the PS3 will too meaning you could play any flash game you wanted by simply downloading it. There is just so much potential that I don't think they can let me down even if they don't do a lot. |

The games on 360 are pretty average at the moment, there's a few I like. PS3 will prob have better Launch titles, and the Blu-Ray thing is definately a win. I agree about the controllers, Sony should of changed them by now, the Dualshocks are terrible. Xbox360 has the best controllers by far.

Nowadays, my box is collecting dust cause I beat all my games for it. And the PS2 keeps grabbing my attention. Sometimes I regret buying the 360. Anywho, that's my take on it. The decision is up to you. |

I bought a 360, although I am not biased as I will be buying all three systems. There are already some great games for 360. Elder Scrolls, G,R.A.W, DOA 4, Fight godly fucking visuals Night, Gotham Racing 3, the other sports games besides fifa, Burnout. This isn't the best time of year for new games. Keep that in mind. PS3 has a lot to prove in the online department, as xbox live is pretty damn good. |
The one on xbox.com. I was ballparking on the number of games that was backwards compatible, I know there is like 7 or so full pages of games. But in the games department, nothing has really caught my attention. Summer is around the corner, and it should kick into overdrive soon.

Huxley is going to be insane.
Waiting for some new gears of war footage. I might actually try an mmorpg in Marvel Superheros. |
Only thing 360 will have that i'll be missing out on when i buy my ps3, is Gears of War. Which looks amazing.
|
Yeah the 360 has Gears of War but the PS3 has Unreal Tournament 2007.
|
Getting both for different reasons.
I like the 360 but there is a lack of games. Churning out super slow. |
I'm going the PS3 route. They've already got 75% of the series I like best and they've got more Japanese developers.
I'm not sold on the 360 because I have little prior experience with the 1st XBox to compare with. Also, they don't have as many series and developers that I like. Basically, aside from a few specific developers, what does XBox have that PS3 doesn't? As for Revolution, it's just an afterthought with me. If I have the cash somewhere down the line, maybe I'll get one, but only after a PS3. |
Right, after looking through that, I fucking forgot that Virtua Fighter 5 is PS3 only. I don't card for Tekken or Soul Calibur, but that right there is something to consider. Will 360 have any decent one on one fighters or will it just be DOA all over again?
Hopefully by Christmas I'll know, but thanks for your opinions. :) |

You think so? really, i always saw the dualshock as [I]the[I] controller desing. I got mine the first day it came out, and honestly, ive never seen a better control Scheme IMO...but to each their own |
I like the PS2 controller for the most part. My only beef is that they split the d-pad into 4 buttons. Makes those rotation moves hard in fighting games.
|
I've never had a problem with that, myself.
|
PS3 for me. Not only do the games appeal to me more than the 360 stuff, but the backwards capability is a bonus considering I have about a million playstation games.

Also Hasney reminded me that there'll be no more Katamari games :( |
I don't get what people don't like about the Dual Shock. Could someone explain their gripe with it other than saying it sucks?
I personally love it, I think it could be a little bigger, but only slightly. The only other thing I can think anyone might have a problem with is the position of the analog sticks, just because they're different from the XBox controllers. Dunno. |

I love my Xbox, and it has some great games on it.
Aside from Oblivion (MASTERPIECE  ), all the 360 has shown us that's DECENT is Halo 3 (which is old by now. Face it. It's a mediocre FPS.). Even though PS3 will be higher, my ranking chart goes PS3 < Wii < 360. And that's not being fanboyish. It's just taking into consideration that 360 has shown me nothing PERSONALLY that I'd be interested in buying, aside from generic FPS clone #485. |

I've had an analog since the original Playstation (I think my first PSX came with it). I've always found it to be THE 3D controller. Personally I always found the Genisis controller with six buttons the best controller for 2D gaming. |
On the D-Pad. I've got arcade sticks for fighting games, but they're just not practical for everyday gaming so 2D games fuck up my thumbs something rotten. Next time I play Pro Evo for a bit I'll show you :P

I still don't understand how it can tear your skin. There's no sharp corners or anything. I'm VERY rough on it, I've done the eggroll thing and circles and have never gotten anything other than the usual indents.
You must have some thin skin... |

Got the 360 already and getting ready to take a morgage on my house for a PS3.

I've considered the 360 for online gaming... Then I realised that I don't really like any of the games. Halo was pretty sweet. That's pretty much it.
I'm eventually getting a PS3... Not right away though. It's waaaay too expensive for me. I'll just play with my Wii for a while frist. |
