Internet going "off and on"

I am assuming it is something wrong with my router, my internet seems to be like going off and on every few minutes.

Like I will be on AIM talking to someone, then I'll try to a view their profile (or anyones profile on AIM) and it'll say "Please wait.." then it will said "Screenname has signed on at 12:00 pm" right as the profile puts up. I also noticed it when loading websites sometimes as well. I just got back from school so I haven't had time to hook up my laptop and see if it is doing the samething on that comptuer as well but I figured I'd come here just incase it was some type of problem with my computer, and not the actual connection itself.

So is my connection just jacked up or is there some type of issue with the computer itself? WADDA U THINK

Could be your router being gay. Lord knows it happens to me enough times. Worse still, I use vonage so it kills my phone too.

Maybe you should reconfigure your router if you know how. That's how I fixed my problem.

It could also be your connection, but it's mostly likely your router being gay.

What kind of router do you have and who is your ISP?

How long has this been happening?

Every few weeks I'll get a day where I get sporadic internet connectivity. I believe Comcast messes around on a regular basis, trying to push new speeds to the modem, firmware, checking things, etc.

Does your modem (not your router) reset itself during these times? If so, it's your connection.

Well I hooked up my laptop upstairs and I didn't notice it going on and off, and if it was doing it it definetly was not doing it as much as the desktop I got.

My router isn't wireless either, so my laptop is plugged into the same router as the desktop. I haven't checked the modem since it is down in the basement, maybe i'll try resetting it to see if it does anything.

When that happens check the main modem, it's probably the source of the problem.

Try going to your modem's ip in a browser (usually http://192.168.100.1/ ) and check the event log when that happens. If it's the modem something will come up.

Fucking Comcast! I, too, have the same problem that you have Xero. At least now I have some explanation as to possibly why.

I had this problem. Bought a new router. Worked like a charm. Me and the roomey run two comps at the same time. When i hooked up directly to the modem it worked, but when hooked to the router with the roomey it didnt. Most likely its your router.

Yeah might have to shell out the money for a new router. I was hoping my moms computer was having trouble so she would buy it but hers is running fine. Haha fuck

Try switching your moms usb wire and yours and see if your computer works. If it does, i'd but a usb wire first.
