Gunner Scott
Damn, I can't believe how much this guy is like Benoit. He must be a fan of his or something. So I've been paying close attention to all his matches so far, and have found so many similarities.
Some of the moves are the same. Ones I made a mental note of last night were the chops, back elbows, snap suplex and Clotheslines. He moves around the ring the same and sells moves pretty much the same. Obviously I'm sure we've all noticed his attire is pretty much the same and his body is the same (except Benoit is more ripped). Both have more of the same "Less charisma, more wrestling" kinda thing. And basically his overall ring presence very much says "Benoit No. 2". I really think they should become a team for a while. Hell, if you take away the long hair and beard I'd think he almost looks the same as well. Anyhow, I think he's fairly decent and could go somewhere if they let him wrestle more (instead of always making "rookie mistakes". Knowing WWE though in a few months time he'll become an astronaut or something. |
I got a feeling as soon as the crowd start to like him he'll get buried.

So what's the bad news?
|
Wasn't he trained by Benoit? Or am I completely off on that one?
|
Maybe they're heading to some king of mirror match thing.
|
They said on Smackdown many times that Benoit is training him and he is his protege...
I like the DT sig |
He probably was. The announcers kept saying he's Benoit's protege (sp), but I assumed it was just a kinda story thing to explain them hanging out, but I guess he could have been.

Trained by Michael Modest at APW? Isn't that the place in the Beyond The Mat documentary?
And what's that bit about him during the Steve Austin segment at Survivor Series? I don't recall that. Will have to check it out in a minute. |
<font color=goldenrod>I didn't know Albright was Slater Vain</font>
|
Albright and Chris Benoit are good friends and have been training together the last 2 years.Which explains why they almost have the exact same moveset.

I wouldn't mind a team of Chris Benoit and Gunnar Scott. But that's a team that is simply begging for a manager, or at least a feud with a charismatic heel (Booker maybe).
|
He should start a stable. Gunner, Benoit and.... BASHAM!
|
Might as well move Val Venis to Smackdown, and get him to join that group

The Benoit/Scott vs. Booker/Finlay match on SD was very good. I love old-school tag wrestling.
|
Yeah just checked out Survivor Series. He was one of the police officers which escorted the Coach to the ring for a post match interview with Austin.
|
WTF kind of wrestling name is Gunner Scott anyway? Why not just stay with Brent Albright if you're going to go with normal sounding names. The guy was a champ in OVW with it so why change it?
|
I bet someone on creative thinks it is funny because he was "The Shooter" in OVW. Gunner? Shooter? That's the kind of minds they hire.
Gunner Scott has the ring skills, but I am slightly less interesting in him now his name if different. Don't ask me why, but I would probably be all over the guys dick if he was still using Brent Albright, or even Slater Vain. Right now, I hope they start calling him "The Shooter" Gunner Scott, and let him wrestle some meaty matches. The crowd was getting into him on SmackDown! this past week. I was completely unaware that Scott was training with Benoit. When did either man find the time to do that? Scott has been in OVW the past few years, and Benoit has been on the road. I know Gunner Scott idolises Chris Benoit, but I was unaware that his moveset was taught to him by Benoit, and not just inspired by the Rabid Wolverine. In OVW, Scott channeled Benoit even moreso than now. He used the Diving Headbutt and Sharpshooter as finishing moves (as well as the Crowbar). Scott is also a fan os Shawn Michaels. I wonder how much HBK he can do? Mixing the two will probably get him over huge. Can you imagine the guy flying, and you not being sure whether he was going to hit a Flying Elbow or a Diving Headbutt? Those would be good times. I'm hoping to either see Gunner Scott & Chris Benoit work a few tag team matches together (vs. MNM, vs. Jamie Noble & Kid Kash, vs. Brian Kendrick & Paul London, etc.), for GS to cost Benoit his match to Finlay at Judgment Day. Chris Benoit vs. Gunner Scott? That's probably as close as you are going to come to Chris Benoit vs. Chris Benoit, and I am not complaining. |

He needs to start using the Crowbar, not just roll ups
