that RoXer and I have been having.

Mind it is SOLELY based on the solos, not the song, the bands etc etc.

The Hotel California solo just fits in so perfectly with the song it is ridiculous. Stairway's solo itself is probably better though. Tough call fellas.

I'd go with Hotel California, mostly for the reason Freg gave. It's like a natural extension of the rest of the song. It's almost seamless going from lyrics to solo, and it's not a big flashy solo like a lot of what came after it. It's just really really good guitar playing from Joe Walsh that turns a very good song into a great one.

Not to say that the Stairway solo isn't great, it just doesn't move me like the California solo does.

Yeah, but I noticed David said to base it "solely off the solos, not the song" so I went with Stairway since that is the basis for judgement.

On the solos alone, it's pretty much a tossup. Brian May would pwn both of them though. :shifty:

Stairway has a better solo, Hotel is a better song

Hotel California's guitar solo DESTROYS Stairway's. The best part of Stairway's is the very end with the pull offs, otherwise it's just a generic solo.
