PS3 Tech Demo: Heavy Rain
It's basically a demo of what kind of real-time scenes can be done on PS3 (and 360 as well hopefully) of a game called Heavy Rain. It's incredible. By the guys who bought us Indigo Prophecy.

I wonder if these realistic settings/models are going to start causing some mental issues with some people. If they just just keep getting better then it could be pretty sick to play a FPS, depending on the animations and effects.
It's one thing playing with block like characters but playing with realistic figures is a different experience. |
By 2010 I would imagine that the line will be crossed where you can't tell if it's rendered or real.
Now, though, I can tell what's rendered and what's not. Models now, even in movies, look plastic to me. I can almost always pick out if something's rendered or not, no matter how advanced it looks. |
JEsus, that was bad. Is it that hard to make rendered objects interact realistically with one another?
|
Human models still have a way to go with them (seeing as how they require so much in terms of light reactions) but object models have become very realistic.
|
I think if in-game models become so convincing that you hesitate blasting someone in an FPS it could really help sell a narrative. Not just with visuals, it helps if characters act alive. This vid is more next-gen to me than any flashy shooter on 360.

Indigo Prophecy fucking ruled.

I thought that tech demo was actually pretty good.
