He got fired awhile go for selling WWE merchandise out of the back of his car.

Hebner was going to retire after WM 21 but decided to stay then he ends up getting fired. It must have been a family thing as Brian and Dave got fired as well.

I remember when Hebner showed up on Impact. That was the least exciting surprise debut ever.

And was there reason given why they changed it from 'NWA-TNA' to just 'TNA'?

I thought it was Dave who was in TNA? Then again I haven't payed much attention. I just remember when Dave first appeared and would stand in the aisle taking notes during matches. So I figured he started reffing.
