Yeah I was having the same problem. Still having the same problem with all my other drives as well. Hold on I'll try and remember what I did.

Have you recently unplugged your drive? (Floppy isn't it?)

Disturbed316 02-04-2004 07:13 PM

thanks

you sure its not the disk that is faulty? is it coming up for every disk you try?

Penner 02-04-2004 07:15 PM

ive tried over 20 disks

do you mean unplugged on the inside?

DS 02-04-2004 07:16 PM

Yeah, like the cables inside the computer.

Penner 02-04-2004 07:19 PM

no i dont think so

DS 02-04-2004 07:24 PM

Ok, well I know this sounds stupid but make sure the IDE cable (the big ribbon like cable) is connected to your floppy drive correctly. If that isn't the problem try right clicking on My Computer and going to Properties. From there select the Hardware tab and click Device Manager. In there go double click on the option in the Floppy disk controllers and see if it says the device is working properly. If so close out of that and double click your drive under Floppy disk drives and see if it is working properly. If it is you may need to uninstall your Floppy drive. Right click your drive under Floppy disk drives and click Uninstall. Then restart and see if that fixes it.

Windows XP will reinstall and get you the latest driver. If none of that works come back here and I'll try and figure it out.

Penner 02-04-2004 07:41 PM

it said they were working properly, i uninstalled and restarted and it still doesnt work

Penner 02-04-2004 07:42 PM

i didnt open it to look yet

DS 02-04-2004 08:19 PM

Have you upgraded your computer recently?

Penner 02-04-2004 09:03 PM

no

DS 02-04-2004 09:15 PM

I really can't think of what it might be then. You might try unplugging it from your computer and loading up and then shut down and reconnect. All I can think of doing though.

#1 if the IDE cable was bad, it wouldnt show the a: drive in the "my computer" section

#2 you have a bad floppy drive, go pick a new one up for 5 bucks.

If you're using < Windows XP, you might need one for making a boot disk.
