The "Camera Phone" Song = 20 steps backwards for hip-hop

Anyone heard this bullshit? I happened to be watching MTV Jams (which I do way too much), and this fucking song came on. Basically, the gist of the song is that Da Musicianz (the group- ironic name, since this was far from music) tell a bunch of "hoochies" to shake their ass so they can record it on their camera phone. Seriously, commercial concept rap songs are horrible, and that shit seriously needs to stop.

I thought Hip-hop couldn't hit a lower point after I heard a song in which people were told to "do the lawnmower"... apparently not.

Man, hating on my first post back... I only wish I could be as great of a hater as Jim Jones...

Way too many people who are terrible have been getting record deals lately.

There are like 56798076986577 (mainly southern) rappers that I want to strangle.

ct2k 06-17-2006 06:27 AM

Nelly being #1 on the list i hope:p

Have there been any steps forward for rap in recent history?

The Mask 06-17-2006 11:40 AM

i'm sure it's time for black people to come up with something new and awesome by now. from their crazy african stuff to blues to jazz to funk to soul to hip hop to rap. i get quite disheartened it's the same old shit.

Late Registration
Nas and Jay-Z making amends and getting together to make what is sure to be a classic Nas album
Lupe Fiasco (though I'm not the biggest fan of "Kick Push", it's nice to hear a commercial song that is different)
Method Man's new album

Kane Knight 06-17-2006 10:17 PM

Late Registration was crap.
Nas and Jay-Z, you can fellate them after the record's released.
Never heard of 'em.
Haven't heard it. But given how far back Method goes, it's not really a feather in the cap of rap that classic rappers make the list.

Funky Fly 06-18-2006 02:18 AM

Food & Liquor = ratings. I  Lupe Fiasco.

And ct2k, Lil Jon and the 3457865489645 guys like him are way higher on my list than Nelly. If I hear another song that's basically Lil Jon and friends screming "YEAH" or "SHAKE IT, BITCH" over a fucking midi, I will stab someone.

"Kick Push" is tremendous.

Isn't that 95% of rap? Not specifically midi, but take some old track, and then say random catch phrases over it?

Funky Fly 06-19-2006 04:03 AM

Yeah. Most rap sucks. In fact, most music sucks.

The Outlaw 06-19-2006 10:44 PM

Lupe Fiascooooooooo

I only single out rap because of the lazy fuckers who don't even so much as write music as they do sample some 30 year old song in loops. It's less the quality and more the quality and lack of inspiration.

Lotus 06-21-2006 02:15 AM

Hey, a good sample can make a good beat into a great one.

Savio 06-21-2006 03:42 AM
