Do the Spirit Squad really deserve the push they're getting?

I'd like to start this and say that, while I HATE them, I can understand why some people can get a kick out of them.

However, they have main evented or have had a main event segment for more than half of the past 5 months of RAWs, they are the tag champs and are probably main eventing Vengeance. Why, may I ask, are these men the center of RAW?

Sure, they may be entertaining to some, and sure, they're some good talents, but in now way do they deserve as much of a push as they are getting. I would have left them in the upper-mid card at best, with the same gimmick, minus McMahon. Not getting WWE title shots and wrestling Triple H and Shawn Michaels every week.

I do understand that they tie into the McMahons' angle, but shit, they couldn't come up with some guys with better gimmicks than "random annoying cheerleading cunts"?

So, I ask you, why are these men one of the bigger focuses of the RAW brand?

McLegend 06-19-2006 08:34 PM

Cause the Spirit Sqaud is Vince's baby.

loopydate 06-19-2006 08:36 PM

I'm as big a Spirit Squad fan as there is on this board, but there's no way they should be main eventing as much as they are. They're usually one of the most entertaining segments on RAW, but there's only so many times you can have Vince punish someone by sticking them in a 5-on-1 match before it gets really old.

They're the Tag Team Champions, so why not use the heat they've garnered to help - and this is a radical idea, so bear with me - get the Tag Team Titles over. Their credibility has been established because of these matches, so let them use the rub they got from Vince to help get someone else over. Build the tag division back up.

Lately, though, they haven't had much of a chance to do what they do best (annoy the crap out of people with poorly-synchronized cheers and pull off crazy spots) and are either just being fodder to make Triple H look good or are doing gang beatdowns consisting of punches, kicks, legdrops, and their "parachute" move.

So, I think they're deserving of a push, since they're talented and entertaining, but they shouldn't be in the position they've been in for the last month or so.

I never said they're not deserving of any push. Like I said, I could buy them as upper-midcard at best. It's the main eventing that's getting way out of control.

Now, if there were two or more other factions (DX doesn't count), then I could buy them main eventing, but only with the other factions, and even then not as much as now.

Savio 06-19-2006 08:40 PM

They were easy to make as vinces henchmen, but after vengence these 5 on 1/ 5 on 2 matches have to stop.

Arguing for the SS, looking at the Raw roster, are there any other heel wrestlers who are as over the SS are? Edge probably but he's in a feud with Cena right now. Orton but he just got moved to Raw so he wasn't an option. I find it refreshing that guys like them are getting the role of being Vince and Shane's lackeys as opposed to the usual suspects like Snitsky and Masters.

Do they deserve the push? Maybe not but I can't see anyone else on the brand who is more deserving.

Xero 06-19-2006 08:49 PM

What's your definition of "over"? Because every week they don't exactly get a strong reaction.

LK 06-19-2006 08:55 PM

To me they seem to get a better heel reaction than any other guys besides Edge and the McMahons. That's just the way I'm seeing it.

Destor 06-19-2006 09:08 PM

They're the modern day Free-birds. So yes.

That's over. It's called "Chris Masters Heat."

They're just so AWESOME and ENTERTAINING that they bring out this INNOVATIVE form of heel heat!

If you think they don't get heat you might want to make sure you don't have your TV muted.

Skippord 06-19-2006 09:53 PM

They deserve it for having to be male cheerleaders

but no no they do not deserve this big of a push so soon

Bad Company 06-19-2006 09:53 PM

Spirt Squad are a poor mans Mean Street Posse

Destor 06-19-2006 09:56 PM

Except with in ring talent and adequate mic skills.

mrslackalack 06-19-2006 09:56 PM

Umaga's supposed to main event starting after Summerslam as well.

I suppose I should still check even though I could hear the fans chant "Suck it!" And JR ranting about ECW, Controversy, DX, and Michael Moore?

Yeah, I'm easy to please.

Skippord 06-19-2006 10:13 PM

Yeah the mic skills are pretty bad.Listening to Kenny was rough

Kane Knight 06-19-2006 10:13 PM

Heels in TNA get better heat than that.

There has never been a bigger load of horse shit ever said on this board. A TNA heel couldn't get heat if you held the show on the surface of the sun itself.

Doesn't really stop it from being a crock of shit does it?

Skippord 06-19-2006 10:55 PM

We all know TNA doesnt have heels

PullMyFinger 06-19-2006 11:09 PM

I personally like the fact that Spirit Squad is main eventing. They're funny and their wrestling is good...they've probably produced better main events for me than WWE has done in a while...so I'm not complaining.

Mr. Nerfect 06-20-2006 04:13 AM

I like them in the main event, but only occasionally. They could be doing so much more. Why haven't we seen a member of The Spirit Squad take on Charlie Haas or Carlito? I salivate and become hard at the thought of a Spirit Squad vs. Paul London & Brian Kendrick Tag Team Championship Unification Match.

CYCLOPTERSAURUS 06-20-2006 05:34 AM

At least it's not Masters or Umaga.

Rammsteinmad 06-20-2006 06:17 AM

I'm all for it. I think the Spirit Squad are awesome! As long as they stay together as a team I'd love to see them pushed.

owenbrown 06-20-2006 09:54 AM

Wouldn't getting the World Tag Team titles OVER actually mean DEFENDING them once in a while?! :wtf:

Stickman 06-20-2006 12:16 PM

The reason they're main eventing is because there's really not much else going on.

KayfabeMan 06-20-2006 02:48 PM

No.

See post title.
