Punk Music

Give me some good punk bands I should definitely have.

Stuff like The Vandals, The Bouncing Souls, Against Me!, Alkaline Trio, etc.

Basically, I am looking for really uppy fast paced punk.

List like three songs from each band I should DL.

Kris P Lettus 06-29-2006 06:16 PM

Old Beastie Boys..

The Miz 06-29-2006 07:09 PM

  • Any pre-Black Sails in the Sunset AFI
  • Against All Authority
  • Anti-Flag
  • Bad Religion
  • Bodyjar
  • Death by Stereo
  • Descendents
  • Dropkick Murphys
  • Frenzal Rhomb (Pretty much the Australian Vandals)
  • Goldfinger (sorta straddle the ska border for a couple of CDs but their earlier stuff is pretty much upbeat punky goodness)
  • Good Riddance
  • Guttermouth (Get "Can I Borrow Some Ambition?" and "She's Got The Look". That's all you ever need by Guttermouth)
  • Hi Standard (Japanese sexcellence)
  • Lagwagon
  • Me First and the Gimme Gimmes
  • Millencolin
  • MxPx
  • Nekromantix (more psychobilly/punk hybrid, but whatever)
  • No Fun At All
  • Pre-Hard Rock Bottom No Use For A Name (esp. stuff off "Making Friends", "Don't Miss the Train", "Leche Con Carne" and "More Betterness!")
  • NOFX (duh)
  • Osker
  • Pennywise
  • Propagandhi
  • Pulley
  • Rancid
  • Screeching Weasel
  • Sick of Change
  • Strung Out
  • Swingin' Utters
  • The Bronx
  • The (International) Noise Conspiracy
  • The Lawrence Arms
  • The Living End (rockabilly/punk hybrid)
  • The Misfits
  • The Weakerthans
  • Tiger Army (psychobilly/punk)
  • Tilt
  • Tsunami Bomb
  • Unwritten Law, up to and including Elva
  • Useless ID

I dunno, I pretty much just scoured my playlist, so you probably have a few them already, but whatever. It's all good stuff.

FakeLaser 06-30-2006 07:22 PM

The Clash

road doggy dogg 06-30-2006 07:25 PM

Scholarship in Punk is also a good Guttermouth song

Bad Company 07-01-2006 07:00 AM

mitch pretty much hit the nail on the head. I really heart No Fun At All

OssMan 07-01-2006 12:01 PM

punk is a feeling not a music style.

sounding like the ramones is not punk. punk is not being a vegetarian or wearing CBGB shirts. being at a show is not punk. there is a general category of what is described as punk today, which i know you are looking for, but i am saying this anyway. punk is thinking for yourself.

road doggy dogg 07-01-2006 12:05 PM

lol

BILLY TALENT

I saw them in the summer of 2003 at Summerfest (along with Steriogram, Sum 41, and Alkaline Trio) and they just blew my mind.

They recently released a new CD "Billy Talent II", and it is just amazing.

Penner 07-01-2006 04:09 PM

Bayside
BEDlight For BlueEYES (If they're considered punk)
Billy Talent
Boys Night Out
Halifax
Matchbook Romance
Protest The Hero

Probably not all of those are punk (or any of them), and you've probably heard of most of them. I'm sure Mitch will be quick to correct me or something.

Anyways yeah, I like those bands, and I just went with the iTunes Genre Listing of "Punk".

Yeah man, Billy Talent's awesome live.

Their new cd is great.

The Greater Power 07-01-2006 09:14 PM

My top 3 on the CD are "The Navy Song", "Worker Bees" and "Where Is The Line?"

Silent 07-01-2006 09:45 PM

Get the MxPx CD called "Let It Happen" it's 32 songs and I've seen it go for like 5 bucks. Great CD.

mitchables 07-01-2006 11:15 PM

"Let it Happen" is fantastic.

Actually, when I was doing up that list, I put on some MxPx for old time's sake, and wound up listening to nearly everything I have by them. Took me way back. That said, I wound up listening to most of the bands as I went through. All still excellent. :'(

Also, Chick Magnet =

The Greater Power 07-02-2006 11:31 AM

I have the chance to see them play at Lifest (a massive christian music festival), however one day tickets for the festival are like 40 bucks and I'm not sure how long the band will play....so I'm probably not going

Who here also likes Fall Out Boy?

I didn't like them much at first, but their Take This To Your Grave CD is really good for pop punk IMO

Penner 07-02-2006 02:36 PM

I liked them a bit the first time I heard them, but now I hate them.

MVP 07-02-2006 11:49 PM

Yeah, Take This to Your Grave is a sweet album. Cork Tree is good, but totally overkilled for me.

thecc 07-03-2006 12:08 AM

Black Flag!!!
Nuff said.

loopydate 07-03-2006 12:14 PM

Mitch's list is damn good. Like FakeRazor, I'd add The Clash. I'd also include the Sex Pistols.

KingofOldSchool 07-03-2006 04:51 PM

X
Dead Kennedys

redoneja 07-03-2006 06:20 PM

Some older Thelonious Monster

Bad Company 07-07-2006 11:03 AM

Also, 10 Foot pole is tight.

The Greater Power 07-08-2006 05:38 PM

Just bought the new RISE AGAINST CD.

First two songs are great, I can tell this will already be better than their previous CD.

Penner 07-08-2006 06:55 PM

I really want to check that out.

Gypsy Punk

Joey Slugs 07-13-2006 02:12 PM

Sex Pistols anyone?

Vastardikai 07-14-2006 05:12 AM

Black Flag (I'll probably be the only one on the boards who likes "My War" more than Damaged)
Melvins
Swans

Wait, you said Uppity, fast paced, right? Damn. Considering I just listed some of the SLOWEST punk around, Let's see.

Black Flag ("Damaged" and before)
Minor Threat
Dead Kennedys
Misfits

D Mac 07-15-2006 03:50 AM

Metallica

Pinnacle Charisma 07-16-2006 08:43 AM
