Biggest robberies in sports.

What do you think has been the biggest robberies in sports? I think Soviets over the U.S. in the 72 olympics has to be considered. Also that umpires contrevisal call in the 1985 World Series between the Royals and Cardinals. A recent one has to be on ESPN 2 in 2005 in boxing with a Crusierweight title fight between O'Neil Bell and Dale Brown. Brown who was the underdog looked to have dominated and easily won the fight and both commentators and studio anyalists all had Brown winning the fight. But all 3 judges had Bell winning but not only winning but by a landslide.

mrslackalack 07-01-2006 11:17 PM

Also Pernell Whitaker and Julio Ceaser Chavez in 93 is one of the biggest in my opinion.

Jesus Shuttlesworth 07-02-2006 12:35 AM

Duke vs Arizona in the 2001 NCAA Hoops National Championship game. Jason Williams should have fouled out when he basically rode on top of Jason Gardners back by no call was made. Would have totally changed the outcome of the game since Williams was probably their best player at the time, also pretty sure Gardner fouled out on some bullshit call but my memory is kinda foggy on that one. I remember the Willaims "non-call" tho like it was yesterday, such bullshit.

lol back in the 1935, the South Melbourne Full-Forward (Bob Pratt) got ran over by a truck driven by a Collingwood supporter on the eve on the Grand Final.

South were strong favourites to win, and they ended up losing as a result of it. He was also one of their best players and had lead their goal-kicking back then.

Y2C 07-03-2006 08:21 AM

Australia in the Wogball world cup.

3 referees getting the sack in successive matches during the qualifiers, followed by the assasination in the final 16.

McDoogle 07-03-2006 11:05 AM

Euro 2000 when France was given 6 minutes injury time when down a goal in the second half against Italy when there was no goal scored or major injury called. Even the commentators were disgusted.

My football club been booted from national competition for being "ethnic", whilst a fucking New Zealand franchise is kept/allowed in...in an AUSTRALIAN league!

Con Boutsianis

Boutsianis began his career with South Melbourne in the old NSL, scoring in his debut game he would go on to score more than 100 goals in the national league with South Melbourne, Perth Glory and the Collingwood Warriors as well as a stint in Greece and signing a contract with the Bolton Wanderers of England.

With many of his goals coming from set pieces, he quickly made a name for himself as a specialist free kick taker. He scored the winning goal in the 1998 Grand Final to give South Melbourne a 2-1 victory and the championship after having just coming on as a substitute. Boutsianis would go on to continue his on-field success with Perth Glory and represent Australia.

With his entertaining on-field abilities and controversial off-field events, made him make headlines more than any other football/soccer player and also giving him a high profile usually reserved for AFL and Cricket players.

Boutsianis made headlines in 2001 when he was fined $9,800 for driving the getaway car in the 1998 armed robbery of Melbourne's Shark Fin restaurant. No conviction was recorded against him, but Boutsi was placed on 2 years probation and lost his place on the Bolton Wanderers of England as a result.

LOL

WE'RE GONNA ROB A BANK AND BOUTSI'S GONNA DRIVE US!

His goal against Marconi last round of 01 is still one of the best I've ever seen. Chipped the keeper from 40 from a bouncing through ball without taking a touch, to send South into the finals on a friday night at Bob Jane. Absolute classic. Not one to settle for just the one goal, he then scores directly from a corner in the second half for his 100th goal in NSL.

Ahh I kinda disagree. I think the Seahawks had a lot of bad calls go againest them but I think they would've still lost to the Steelers.

He was the man - bloody waste now :'(

yianni 07-08-2006 02:27 AM

Boutsi was one of the best players I've ever seen! Fuck a few years ago any free kick that was won you would pencil Boutsi in to smack it into the top corner. If the cunt wasn't so disloyal to South he would seriously be in the top 5 of greatest South players ever. Loyalty was what let him down, in terms of playing skills he was a fucking god.

JUST COVER YOUR HAND OVER YOUR FACE AND PLAN WHAT TO ROB NEXT BOUTSI YA LEGEND :D

Cunt should have smacked Kevin Muscat (he's standing next to him)

I disagree, some of the calls blew the Seahawks chances. I think they would've won. They weren't necessarily the stronger team, but that day they were the better team. But they were robbed by the officials. I really really think in north American sports there's and East Coast bias.

That Lakers-Kings Western Conference Finals in '02, I think. Where Kobe elbows Bibby in the face, draws blood, and Bibby gets called for the foul. Among other mysterious calls and non-calls (Including Hack-a-Shaq only getting one called against him in that game, an axe-handle blow to somebody that wasn't called a Flagrant.)

Speaking of Robberies, I'd say the people who bought tickets to see Muhammed Ali fight Antonio Inoki (sp?) got robbed.

RP 07-29-2006 06:27 AM

if you want to knock the yanks, say the Orioles got robbed when that kid pulled in that home run. He was the original Bartman.

Mine, the NO GOAL, Sabres vs Stars 99 Stanley Cup finals. Brett Hull was in the crease, the refs made a bad call, everyone knew it was bullshit, so the NHL changed its rules in the offseason.

That was the last chance any Buffalo team has had at a World Title, and they were robbed of it.

First of all, I am a Yankees fan so I'm not trying to knock the Yanks. It wasn't really robbery but it was shocking as hell that Dent hit the HR and the Rangers were robbed when someone hit that homerun off Canseco's head. LOL.

BCWWF 09-03-2006 04:39 PM

A player having a good game or a bad game isn't being "robbed". You are being robbed if the ump missed the third out and then a home run was hit to win the game. There is no justification that Canseco's head would be a robbery, even though I know you're joking.

Just trying to make a point, nothing more.

Crippla 09-03-2006 08:16 PM

Yeah, I was joking about that though Canseco probably felt robbed.
