Undertaker Year: 1999
Taker himself said that 1999 was one of the lowest points in his career. Why does he feel this way?
How is it that Taker would consider 1999 the low of his career when the WWF was at it's peak during that year? How exactly was Taker portrayed during that time? Was he still a walking corpse, like he had portrayed since he debuted, or was he a evil man that did unspeakable things for no apparent reason? |
"You're the devil's man!" ~ Arthur Miller, The Crucible
I think that sums it up pretty nicely. |
He was more "satanic" if you will. Sacrifcing people on his symbol which resembled crucifixtion. Burning his symbol on the McMahon's lawn. The way he would stick out his tongue and roll his eyes into the back of his head.
I guess he just wasn't pleased with the more extreme direction his character had taken. He pretty much became the devil. That is when I started watching (the Greater Power storyline was the first huge angle I saw, so it holds a place in my heart for one of my favorite angles even if the outcome was disappointing), so for me, I thought the whole thing was pretty cool. Since then, I have seen older footage and matches and whatnot. His older gimmick was sweet too. Not that I didn't know who Undertaker was before I watched. That is the gimmick I believe he will be returning with. |

Um, that was also the year when he was in incredible pain from all the injuries he'd accumulated. Remember that he was put in a tag team with Big Show, and that Show basically carried the team. Eventually, he missed the last three months or so of that year plus the first five months of 2000 to have surgery and such.
So when you spend much of the year in a lot of pain, that would probably be considered the low point in your career. |
I prefer a less evil and yet still dead & indestructable Undertaker. All the sacrifices and burning of crucifixes and such was a bit much for me. :shifty:

Ya Undertaker wasn't that great in 1999. He was stuck facing Big Boss Man at Wrestlemania plus he suffered that groin injury that caused him to miss almost a year of action
|
actyually I think he was set to come back sooner but I beleive he tore a bicept when he was working out

And, on a more humourous note, any time the Big Show's carrying your tag team, I'd say it's pretty much Rock Bottom. |
^ I wasn't going to mention that, being a Taker fan, but that's true.

I personally LOVED the Ministry storyline I like the really evil characters in wrestling like Jake in 92, heel Doink, Ministry Taker and Sean O"Haire :( today. I thought is was a cool storyline and it really freshened up Taker's character.
|
Was he indestructable during that period?

I don't know. No one really tried to kill him. He lost some matches though. He was being built up as pure evil, devil etc. |

Taker was injured for the majority of '99. Thats why he came back in the Ministry in the first place (January of 99). He got hurt around June or July and thats when Big Show started wrestling the handicap matches. Also Taker said he wasn't fond of the Satanic character that he was, probably one of the big reasons for the change in his gimmick.
The Taker that will come back will probably be the '97-'98 Undertaker, the solo dead man who was more human than his first years. Personally I wanna see the Undertaker from Wrestlemania XIV, with the huge entrance and everything (druids with torches lighting the rampway). |

Well, that ends my marking out.. :-\ |

All I ask for is the Undertaker who fought Bret Hart in that match that HBK refereed. The one that fought Michaels in HiaC. The one that fought Kane in the Inferno Match. Cuz that was a TIGHT entrance.

The thing that made Ministry-Taker cool was how evil he was. He wasn't afraid to do anything or cross any line.
BTW, what kind of crowd reactions did he get? Was Ministry-Taker a success? |
<font color=Silver>I cant wait 'til the Undertaker comes back, im gonna try and run down to the front row seats at WMXX when the Undertaker comes out</font>
|
What are they doing about the hair thing? Extentions?
|
I LOVED Ministry Undertaker, but then I've never found much to be shocking, and allow shows to maybe push the envolope a little too far.
I just thought that hanging the Bossman and raising Stone Cold on the symbol was cool. Although, I can understand why some would be offended. :-\ |

The Ministry
The Ministry was a great stable until McMahon was revealed as the ultimate evil. That just killed it, then it turned into the totally shitty corporate ministry. Much of his stuff may have been too campy but it was still good fun. Being injured sucks, and i don't doubt that is why he said it, but the ministry storyline which started in such a great way ended in such a wimper. I can still see McMahon entering as the greater evil, and turning off the TV in disgust.

He was pushed as a heel and it worked great. the fans ate it up. the only cheers he or the ministry got were when they faced the corporate team members (or when the lights went out before the gong when everybody marks out). so yeah you can say it was a success.
