Worst wrestler to ever hold a title.

You know, everyone talks about who is the best to never hold a world title, or even any title. But who was the worst, most undeserving champion? Now keep in mind how over they may or may not have been at the time they were champion and how much sense it made at the time. For example don't say, "Goldberg was the worst WCW champion because he ended Bret Hart's career." I guess I'm looking for more of a "how the hell did anyone ever think he/she was going to get over as champion?"

One of the worst champions that springs to my mind is Chyna as Women's champion. At the time Chyna had already been an IC champion and was way more than a match for any other "diva" at the time. At no point in her title run did it make sense for anyone. It did nothing to raise the respectability of the women's championship. It was 5 steps back for Chyna's career (though shortly after she quit or was fired or something and her career was down the shitter after that anyhow). Also, if I remember right, her may feud at the time was with Lita, but it was one sided in Chyna's favor so it did absolutely nothing for Lita either.

CENA. What did he do to deserve that ridiculous title reign? It was always the same thing over and over again, Cena gets his ass kicked for 20 minutes, and Cena decimates the opponent in 2 minutes. WASSUP WIT DAT?!

Nobody better say Sid or I will have to hurt them.

When Gillberg got the light heavyweight, i know he wasn't "Gillberg" at that time yet, but I mean c'mon, he tripped on the ring steps his first match. Funny gimmick tho.

Orlando Jordan as US champion.... why?

Ben Rodrigues 07-16-2006 09:22 AM

Godfather hoes as Hardcore Champion? Though the belt didn't really mean shit.

Chavo Classic 07-16-2006 09:35 AM

It didn't start meaning shit until they started whoring it out to every mid and lower carder on the roster. It could be the highlight of any show when Shamrock, Mankind, Al Snow, Road Dogg and Hardcore were involved.

Cena was insanely over when he won the title. It made perfect sense to put the title on him. The mistake was just keeping it on him for so damn long. There's no way you could honestly think he's the worst wrestler to ever hold a title. Besides, what did Hulk Hogan really do besides have ridiculously long reigns, get beaten down all match, and then decimate in the final moments?

True that.

Also, lets not count Vince Russo, Vince McMahon, Shane McMahon, Stephany McMahon, and Dave Arquette. And lets have a little more thought put into these answers as well.

I'm still gonna stick with Matt Borne, assuming he was never a champion. I think he was a much more talented than Tatanka in the ring, and that whole "Borne Again" gimmick is stuff of legend.

Um, this is a thread about guys that were champion.

BobBitchen 07-16-2006 08:29 PM

EDGE(I'm Not a transitional champion) that was pretty stupid.

Yeah, at the time it pissed me off, and now looking back at it, it was pretty much a waste of time. I hope this time he remain champion longer than a month, hell 3 months would be good for him. Because now he seems more like a champion than he did back then. It is amazing what 6 months can do.

Pinnacle Charisma 07-16-2006 09:15 PM

Its kinda of a hard question with the brand spilt lots of crappy wresters who havnt been over have held the tag-team belts and even the us belt (hi orlando)

It's hard to put thought into clearly defined answers.

SAY OOOOH YEAH!!! *CLAP* *CLAP* *CLAP*

Chyna as IC Champ was the 1st thing that sprung to mind. And also *SPOILER* highlight to read Finlay's US win on Smackdown was pretty fucking retarded.

I cannot believe no one said Warrior... the man couldn't even wrestle. He makes Luger look like Angle/Beniot.

Warrior had a fairly good match with Hogan at WM VI - proving that anyone, with six weeks prior rehearsal, can put on a good match. Seriously though - Warriors had a few alright matches - Savage/Warrior from WM VIII springs to mind - whereas I can't at this moment recall a good Luger match.

Anybody Thrilla 07-17-2006 12:17 PM

Warrior had a good match with Hogan, a good match with Savage, a couple good matches with Rick Rude....Luger had good matches...with um....shit....
