NCAA Football 2006 Thread

Kickoff is soon, so lets discuss potential favorites to win it all. I like Notre Dames chances to win the championship.

Joey Slugs 07-21-2006 04:41 PM

Notre Dame is winning it all.

Brady Quinn = Heisman

Jesus Shuttlesworth 07-21-2006 11:41 PM

Athlon Sports magazine has Oklahoma going all the way. After reading up on them watch out, they got Bomar coming back after his first year as the starter and they still got Peterson. Don't forget they have been stealing all the talent from Texas for the last few years, seeing how Texas always lost to them in the Red River Shootout (up until last year that is)

Personally I can see Ohio State taking it. They lost a lot on D but they bringing A LOT back on offense (QB, RB, WR, a lot of Olineman) and they are always a strong team anyways. Post W's againest Michigan and Texas and they should run the table. Don't see how they could be kept outta the National title game if they do that. Although, you could see 3 teams go undefeated this season. ND or USC (depending who wins on Nov 25), Oklahoma (outside of Texas, they should go right through their schedule) and Ohio State. Obviously one of those teams could slip up, but I could definetly see that happening. A team like Cal might even be able to win out, they open up againest Tennesse but if they win that game they could be crusing into the USC game.

If you can't tell, I love college football

RoXer 07-22-2006 01:49 AM

I was never really a big college football fan untill a few years ago.

But I hear that Arizona isn't going to be the doormat of the Pac-10 anymore.

kickoff is soon? wow

don't really have a team, i mean i guess i like NC State but that's kind of just a basketball thing.

BCWWF 07-23-2006 07:02 PM

It would be cool if Okalahoma won it all because then I would have seen the National Champions two years in a row. Don't think they will though.

It is hard to say who is going to be the team this year, especially since ESPN has been signing about West Virginia all summer. I think Notre Dame is going to slip up somewhere along the way and it will end up being an SEC team vs. either a Big 12 or ACC team.

Jesus Shuttlesworth 07-23-2006 11:31 PM

I can definetly see 3 teams going undefeated this year, hopefully it does happen so everyone can see that the BCS is retarded.

IS IT FOOTBALL SEASON YET

mrslackalack 07-26-2006 10:14 PM

Yeah a 16 or 32 team NCAA fb tourney would rock.

Gonzo 07-26-2006 10:32 PM

I think everyone knows the BCS is retarded as is, don't need a 3 team playoff to do it. But I do see your point.

Jesus Shuttlesworth 07-26-2006 11:08 PM

Well it has been shown time and time again that is stupid, but when it does work it seems to gain so much more strength (last year, 2003 when it was Miami vs Nebraska) so it kind of cancels out the times when it didnt work out, even though failures happen a lot more than successes.

Nah, that would be too much, but a tournament involving all of the BCS teams might be able to be pulled off.

I know. Sucks.

Supreme Olajuwon 07-30-2006 07:26 PM

Maybe they should wear them when they play Syracuse and Navy or the rest of their cupcake schedule instead of against USC.

Jesus Shuttlesworth 07-31-2006 12:54 AM

Cupcake schedule? I don't really like ND but I dunno if I'd call their schedule cupcake.

Really wouldn't call that a cupcake schedule.

Supreme Olajuwon 08-01-2006 12:57 AM

So what would you call it? I know I'd shit myself thinking about those games against the dreaded armed forces trio of doom.

Last time I checked, Navy had a good team last year... and reguardless... how about the 6 games leading up to the navy match-up?

Butch 08-01-2006 05:48 AM

Okay, I'm a new (British) fan of the sport and know nothing yet of college football other than this years draft class. Outlaw, who the hell was that in your video and what the fuck is he doing playing quarterback? Can he even throw? I'm sure he can but why bother when you can run like that???? I'm gonna have to look up some info on that kid when I find out who it is. Very impressive!

**Edit**

Alright I clicked the link, Matt Jones who now plays wide receiver for the Jaguars. He's some athlete!

They got some pretty good oppopents lined up, it isn't the toughest schedule in the world but I wouldn't call it cupcake.

Everyone loves ND though so they'll be playing in a BCS game even if they lose 3 games, so I don't think they have much to worry about.

Jesus Shuttlesworth 08-01-2006 02:59 PM

THE UUUUUUUUUUU

CORAL GABLES, Fla. -- Four Miami Hurricane players, including running back Tyrone Moss and receiver Ryan Moore, were suspended for the Sept. 4 season opener against Florida State because they violated team policy.

Linebacker James Bryant and receiver Rashaun Jones also were suspended, coach Larry Coker said Tuesday.

Moore's suspension will include the second game of the season against Florida A&M. He was suspended for the Peach Bowl at the end of last season.

Coker declined to say what prompted the punishment.

"It's all the same incident," he said. "The message is pretty clear -- we have high standards here. We're a program of quality kids. And these kids are good kids. They're not bad kids. But we've got to get this message across."

The suspended players will continue to practice with the team.

"These players are going to come back," Coker said. "They're going to have outstanding years. I believe that. But it won't be the first game."

Moss, a senior, rushed for 701 yards and 12 touchdowns in eight games last year before a knee injury sidelined him for the rest of the season. He'll be replaced by junior Charlie Jones, who rushed for 507 yards last year.

Moore, a senior, started nine games last season and caught 28 passes for 464 yards and four touchdowns. Bryant and Jones played mostly on special teams in 2005.

"When you lose good players, obviously it has an effect," Coker said. "But our expectations haven't diminished."

The suspensions are the latest blow this summer for a program accustomed to contending for the national title and trying to rebound from disappointing 9-3 records the past two years.

Former top recruit Willie Williams has been seeking to transfer. Reserve safety Willie Cooper was shot in the buttocks by an unknown assailant but escaped serious injury.

"It has been a tough offseason," Coker said. "There are some things that always go on with a major-college program that you have to deal with. But the key is to deal with them. That's what I want to do."

Fucking idiots, I hope they lose to FSU now. Gonna be all on Kyle "Mr. Untapped Potential" Wright lol good luck with that. Kid shoulda just stayed in Cali and went to a weak pac10 school, he'd prob be tearing it up in every game (Except for when his team played USC) Why can't these Florida schools get better QBs? Brock Berlin? Kyle Wright? Chris Rix?

Jesus Shuttlesworth 08-01-2006 03:02 PM

Kyle Wright will probably end up being good but I can't stand when players coming out of high school are really hyped up, I already hate that Clausen kid going to Norte Dame.

Yeah, he's a freak of nature. Some of those clips were against my team, but I don't really care, I'm a fan. He can throw it pretty well, so he had three threats. Run, pass, and catch. They lined him up split out quite a bit. Oh yeah, he can also ball.

I'm not sure if it's because everyone loves the Irish or not... but wasn't it written into the BCS model at one point (for the BCS bowls) that was the top conference winners + ND (if they had a 10 win season) that made the top BCS rankings. I know they don't (might not) do it anymore, but there was some extra love for ND because they remained an independant (and still choose to stay that way).
